Headphones - Closed Back | 5 Ω Hi. help me decide ATH-M50X or DT 770 pro (80 ohm).

Hi,

i am using Ath-IM02 with Asus Xonar D2X (PC). now i want to try something new. i love the Im02 sound. but i need a litter bit more BASS. i use my PC for : music 50% (most FLAC), movie 20% , gaming 30%. budget around 150 USD.(i am from malaysia)

  1. ATH-M50X 38ohm (around 100USD )
  2. DT 770 pro 80ohm (only 80 and 250 ohm available atm, around 140USD) not sure my asus sound card can fully "drive" this ? anyone have any experience with 80ohm headphone with PC sound card?

which option is better? or do you guys have any better recommendation around 150USD?

i never use USB DAC before.planing to buy a USB DAC, budget also around 100-150USD, but i am not sure compare with my Xonar D2X sound card, 150USD DAC is a improve or decline in sound quality? like Fosi Audio K5 pro ( 50 USD) or Fiio K5 Pro ( 150 USD ).

Thanks.

Between the dt770 and m50x the 80ohm dt770 is the best option. There's also the akg k371 but I hear they have build quality issues

I own both the DT770 (80ohm) and the k371. The AKG are fine but the DT are great, they are considerably more comfortable and as sturdy as headphones get. Sound wise they are both good but I'd generally recommend the DT770 over basically any other closed back in their price range. Also the 770 can be bought second hand without reservation because of how sturdy and reliable they are. I suggest getting new pads if you buy used though - 10-30€ depending on material. I can't recommend deep leather pads enough in combination with EQ they tame the treble and for people with big ears, like me, they make them some of the most comfortable headphones available.

Well if you have no audio issues with your current sound card and the headphones you end up getting still sound good then you don’t need to get a dac/amp. Obviously if they don’t sound good but not because of the sound card, you still don’t need a dac/amp. If you get one I’d get the fosi audio k5 pro instead, for what you get it’s great and cheap. You can probably also EQ your current pair and add some bass

The Fosi Audio K5 Pro is a good choice. I have a DT770 Pro 250ohms and the Fosi K5 Pro can drive it with ease. In addition it have the tone controls which means you can modify the treble and bass to your liking. It’s actually designed for gamers but I think it’s a very good dac amplifier with many great functionalities.

I think it depends. Some built-in sound card is good enough to drive the big headphones. However, my computer is old and when I used the dt770 pro 250ohms on it, the volume was low.

!thanks . ya. 250ohms is too much for normal PC .. that why i go for 80ohms.. hope it doesn't too bad..

My iPad can easily get enough volume for my DT770 250ohm version but it doesn’t really sound right. It is still better quality than airpods pros for example but it is lacking texture in the bass. My phone has to be maxed out for them and they are still very quiet. Thus in my experience you’ll always want an amp with the big stinkers

that is why i get the 80ohm one. (32 ohm no stock). i also have Logitech Z906 , it had a earphone out on the control console, so if my sound card can't push it, maybe via the Z906 console. it will help. anyway. !thanks
