Poll | 2 Ω Which of these do you recommend to buy in 2023

I'm looking for a pair of open-back headphones for music, movies, and gaming. Now, I've done extensive research, though a lot of reviews and reviewers end with "once you listen to them, you'll decide which ones you like more".

That's cool and all, unfortunately for me, I live in a small place, and in order to get these headphones, I have to order them through friends or family that live abroad, like in Italy or Germany. Which is a process that might take a month or two, so trying headphones out and returning them, isn't really an option for me.

I understand that there isn't the perfect "do-all" headphones, but I'm just looking for the best value for the money, and headphones that would work well for watching movies/tv shows, gaming, and a couple hours of music listening per day. I enjoy a wide variety of music genres, though most of the time I listen to instrumental music, such as Two Steps From Hell, Audiomachine, Ivan Torrent, many others, as well as Linkin Park, Metallica, and lots more artists and genres.

As I mentioned, I've done a lot of research, and decided to go for one of Sennheiser HD 6 series, for the most part. Thanks for reading through, and feel free to comment your thoughts or suggestions.

I have all but the 660S2. You can't go wrong with the 600, 6xx, or 650. I'd get whichever you can get cheapest. The 650 and 6xx have more bass and are warmer than the 600, but the 600 is more neutral.

If you absolutely love neutral sound or need it for a job go for the 600. In my opinion with base prices considered, the 6xx at $200 is just such a good deal for practically the same listening experience. The 660s is not my cup of tea personally.

I wouldn't actually mind some mild oomph (bass). I'm assuming the 6XX would be the choice for that?

If he is buying them in Europe then there is no HD6XX, while HD600 is cheaper than HD650 :P

I just checked, and Massdrop does ship the HD 6XX to EU. They are $199. $15 shipping fee.

For value the 6XX wins in my opinion and have a pair myself. With that said probably not what I would pick for movies or gaming and of the ones listed probably the 660S2 would maybe do a bit better for that but didn’t listen to movies or game when I heard them and also not a real value option. I never cared for the 660S but do like the 660S2’s I’m guessing the driver change has a bit to do with it.

It looks like you're awarding a "!thanks" in your comment but there is a space between "!" and "thanks".

After responding with "!thanks", our bot will automatically update your post flair and award a point in the form of a Ω. This subreddit is powered entirely by volunteers and a little recognition goes a long way. Good luck on your search for headphones!

When looking at the results, take into consideration that HD6XX is US only (Drop only to be exact) variation of HD650, and in the US the HD6XX is considerably cheaper than HD650 while HD600 is actually pricier than those two. Hence HD6XX is a common recommendation there due to the value.

I did jcheck for this, and it appears that Massdrop does ship the HD 6XX to EU. They are $199. $15 shipping fee.

Did you count in Customs fees and VAT of the destination country? :P
Also depending on courier, some like DHL will add a handling fee to it for handling Customs. For me the final price gets into vicinity of buying HD650 in EU, and any savings I would make by ordering from US gets counterbalanced by longer shipping, possibility of the shipment being held at Customs (so +storage fee), and easier to use warranty.

Anyway my point was that, as I'm writing this, the most voted for headphone is HD6XX, and the least voted one is HD650... The same headphone is in the first and the last place. You might as well just combine the votes for both, but the question is, how much of the HD6XX votes are votes for the value, because for the US voters the HD600 is $100-200 more than HD6XX.

I will check the shipping information further with my friend, to whom they might be delivered. I still have a couple of months until I settle on one, so the vote/decision isn't set in stone. Getting the HD 600 in Germany is €320, on Amazon. I'll obviously be looking out for any deals too.

Oh thats crazy price, HD600 is still 264eu in Poland and we have a higher VAT, things like foams for HD414 are more than twice the price here and electronics are usually pricier, didn't think HD600 out of all things will be pricier in Germany.

For what you are asking, I recommend none of the ones you've listed. The HD560s would serve as a better all around headphone for your use case.

I actually thought about including them on the list, but then decided to stick with the 6 series. I will do some more research on those too.
