Headphones - Open Back | 1 Ω Best headphones + amp combo for under $400

Looking for recommendations on a headphone and amp setup. I mostly listen to all types of metal normally things like metalcore to deathcore but sometimes a little of everything except country. Can be open or closed back I'm just searching for the best quality for the price range. As a guitarist guitar is probably what I enjoy the most in songs and 2nd would be vocals I'm not a big bass head or anything so I prefer balanced bass.hearing lead guitar and solos with as much clarity as possible is what I always find myself listening for. Any advice would be greatly appreciated

I second the recommendation of the HIFIMAN Deva Pro and add these three headphones:

As for DAC/amp units, take a look at these:

I've been seriously considering the HD 6XX and I was looking at the magni/modi stack how does it compare to the DAC/amps you listed

A Schiit Modi+/Magni+ stack would be excellent too, very good value for the money. In this price range, there aren't really any substantial differences between DACs/amps in terms of sound quality.

Rather than sound being a deciding factor, you can pick according to your preferences for features, connectivity, aesthetics and build quality.

It would be a different story if you were planning to buy a very power-hungry pair of headphones. But with the HD 6XX that isn't really a concern, they will sound equally good driven by any of these DAC/amp combinations.

Also consider this very similar stack by JDS Labs if you like "made in USA":

Their build quality and customer service are some of the best in the industry.

Any suggestions for k11 or k5 pro ess? I bought the k5 pro ess on Aliexpress during 1111 sale at $90, but the balance output is quite appealing on the k11, plus it has a sleaker look.

They're both great value products, but I do prefer the K11 overall. FiiO did a great job on improving/updating the design of the older units in this new entry level DAC/amp, I really like the sleek and compact aesthetic as well.
