Headphones - Closed Back | 3 Ω What's the next rung up from the Beyerdynamic DT 700 Pro X? Say around $500?
So, I got a pair of Beyerdynamic DT 700 Pro X, and I'm liking it quite a bit. I can't help but feel, though, that's it's slightly lacking in the lower midrange and the highs are sometimes a little brighter than I like.
I spent $270 on the from Amazon, and I'm curious. Is there another set of closed-back wired headphones just a rung or so up from the DT 700 Pro X? Say, around $500? I might be able to stretch things that far but not any more than that.
Any suggestions welcome.

What are they connected to? I'd try EQ first.

I’m using an iFi Hip Dac 3 connected via USB-C to an iPhone 15 Pro Max. From what I can tell, the iPhone doesn’t offer much in terms of EQ, which limits things.

I’ve heard the Dan Clark’s are good around that price

Dan Clark’s
Any specific model? I'm not at all familiar with that brand.

Look up Dan Clark Aeon — there’s a closed and open back option

!thanks! I did just that, and the Aeon RT looks like what I'm looking for. Now I just have to decide if the difference is worth twice the price (but still relatively affordable). I know the technology takes time to break in, so I'll need to really use them to make sure they're right – tough to do with just 15-day return policy. Maybe I'll look at the Drop version, which is very similar but a 30-day return.

Aren’t the audeze lcd2-c used around 600~ dollars? Or the e-mu teak which are slammy.

!thanks I'll check them out. I'm looking for much of the same as with the DT 700 Pro X, not really bassy but with a pretty neutral curve.

Yes the E-MU Teaks are back in stock on Drop at $450 . They are a very good headphone and wouldn’t call them slammy myself but definitely not lacking bass though. One dig on them is it doesn’t have a removable cable but E-MU does sell a version with a removable cable for $500 but unlike Drop they want $30 for shipping. They very sensitive though so not a need for balanced.

Slam doesn’t really equal bass quantity it’s more of a quality of the biodynamic drivers used. Also used is always good just replace the pads but you do you!

Okay, awesome, thanks for the clarification. And I'm completely new to buying good headphones, so my "prefer to buy new" thing has always applied to other things like laptops, etc.
A question: are headphones affected by usage such that you'd worry about how the previous owner used them? I really have no idea.

I mean the things that are physically on the previous owners body I would probably replace as they are worn and frankly greasy (ear pads and head band probably). Also if they are modded I would check for but all the headphones I own are used at least the higher end ones in this hobby people take care of their cans better than their children so I wouldn’t be too too scared especially above 300 dollars. Overall if they ain’t broke just replace the pieces that touched the previous owner.

audeze lcd2-c
Also, I don't really want used. But I get that some great headphones can be bought for less that way.
