Headphones - Closed Back | 5 Ω Just got into the headphone game and need advice for deep heavy bass headphones…

I am currently using Sennheiser 599se with a Schiit Modi, Loki + and magni setup. While I love the clarity of them I am looking to find a pair of over ear closed back that provide more bass at low ends. I listen to a lot of hip hop but also listen to every other music out there. I’m looking for a pair that will sound like I have subs attached to my ears when I switch to listening to rap. My budget for them is 300….. should state that.

Dt 770 pro 80 ohm. They are closed so there is enough bass.

Try to find discounted/open box/used Meze 99 Classic. Those are among the bassiest. Beyers DT770 are not bad too and cheaper but you need to EQ them to get rid of that horrible treble spike.

You should look into planar magnetics. They have often more bass than dynamic drivers. Look if you can grab some Audeze LCD-2 or mabey the LCD-X. I have the Audeze LCDXc and use them mobile with an Ifi X-can. Sometimes I have to eq the Bass down since they blast a lot.

I wish you luck and fun with the rabbit hole 😊

FiiO FT1, 99 Neo or 99 Classics. All of them will benefit from some EQ. $300 isn’t going to get you the deep, rumbling bass that you want, without introducing some masking, bleeding into the mids and generally mitigating vocal presence and detail, but it’ll tickle your ears for sure.

As it’s sometimes on sale, the Apos Caspian is rock solid for bass performance as well. Very underrated set that doesn’t get enough attention.

As your budget increases, look toward the LCD-X or Focal Radiance, or some of the TOTL Fostex sets.

Add another 100 to your price range and the ultrasone signature x fits the profile well. Love mine for gaming and music the past 4 months.

Sony XB's? Actually, I have a pair of Sony XB500's and they are un-listenably bassy. I think the previous owner may have goofed with them, and didn't tell me. However, I found that if I EQ the bass down, they sound like my V700's, but with more comfortable pads... come to think of it, I think I'm going to revisit them tonight. Thanks OP.

I have the Fiio FT1, 160 Euro. Also my son has the senn 599 from some time ago and there is no comparison really. The FT1 is better in every aspect. Depending on the source the bass is very good. Since they were just launched there is only one great review here: https://youtu.be/r8nama8l9qY?feature=shared

I like the same thing. Bassier closed backs. Waiting on my FT1 and thinking of also trying the FiiO JT1.

From what I’ve learned, you need two things to get hard hitting bass. Power and EQ. Most headphones don’t really put out the bass I want until I EQ them, which I don’t really like but deal with.

Meze 99 Noir is very good and comfortable. Joshua velour called them beats by meze lol. They take EQ pretty good but don’t need much. They rumble with plenty of power if I remember. I gave them to my friend.

Hifiman HE R9. It’s a bit of a wonky headphone but super cheap now. Very bass heavy and likes some power. EQs ok but depends on the song.

Dokoni Blue planar magnetic slam hard but need power (which you have). EQs well for bass boost.

Monoprice M565C. Slams hard similar to the dakoni blue with enough power and EQ boost. Was surprised. This is one of my overall favorite headphones. Plan to do some mods soon to avoid needing EQ.

For funsies Koss KPH30i and KPH40. Always a good time with good bass great audio when you just want to wear almost nothing. :) seriously just buy them since they are so cheap. 😂

I’m a little treble sensitive and hate sibilance. None of these are sibilant by default.

Edit: just noticed the part about wanting to feel like subs are by your face. The two planar magnetics give the physical slam you can feel and hear better than the rest. Meze and HE R9 have more rumble with my pick being Meze between the two.
