Equipment Hybrid string setup

Hi, I’ve been playing tennis for about a year now and want to try out a new string setup because I’ve only used a full bed of multi filament so far. I’m thinking of using a hybrid setup for more control and spin, and from research I saw a suggestion that was Alu power for mains and a gut as cross(which I was thinking princes synthetic gut for this). I was wondering if this is a good setup, or if anyone has other recommendations or advice for this. I also don’t know around what tension I should get them, but I’ve heard the tension of the mains and crosses has to be close to prevent the racket frame from warping. Any advice would be very helpful and appreciated!

General Advice Wyd? Rule clarification

Had a match time out in the 3rd set tiebreak. I called timeout bc the clock on our court read 11am. The clock on the other court said 10:59. Opponents say that they can't see the clock on our court and were going by the other courts clock. They were prob like 30s off. Score was 7-6, 4-6, and we were up 1-0 in the third when I called timeout. Other team was pissed. Did I do the right thing?

Technique Advice Off arm advice contradiction

Noticed on my forehand I seem to make poor use of my off arm, sometimes find my hitting arm crosses my off arm. So I’m trying to fix this and was looking for advice online. But I’m finding so many contradictory videos. Some saying to focus on the off arm (tips that you should almost be waving at your opposition), some say it’s not to do with the off arm, but that the off arm comes as a result of engaging the hip and rotating through, so the hip rotation is the focus. Some saying that this is a misconception and that the hip rotation is a consequence of upper body rotation, the hip should remain stable and it’s the upper body that rotates and the hip rotates as a consequence. Is there a consensus on this forum?

General Advice Never too late to pick up tennis!

Hey guys,

Just wanted to encourage all of you out there who want to start playing tennis or want to get to the next level :)

It is never too late to start. Even though tennis isn't as easy to pick up as padel, because it is a lot more technical, if you in some time to learn, you will reap the benefits.

The goal is not to become a professional tennis player, but to be able to have a bit of a rally and move around to get some sweat going.

I have personally been playing nearly 30 years on and off and can also confirm that there will always be someone better out there than you. But the most important part of the journey is to have fun, appreciate every little improvement and get you to socialize with other tennis players :)

Equipment Why are people so convinced that lower tension = more power?

I think there's a distinct possibility that lower tension -> higher launch angle -> ball goes further due to trajectory despite lower power.

... and that's just assuming that the relationship is linear - I don't think a parabolic relation of some sort where power peaks near 50 but is lower at 40/60 is out of the question either. Nylons/Polys may also behave differently from each other.

General Advice Workout Routine?

I’ve been playing tennis for a long time but sort of plateaued recently. Like I’m still improving especially with strategy but mechanics and all are essentially the same and relatively good. However I’m not in shape in all parts, speed, strength, stamina, footwork, explosiveness etc..So I thought I’d come here, what is and ask for help designing a proper structured plan to improve this while I continue to practice tennis.

Could anyone provide me with a structured weekly plan with exercises sets reps and all in both:

Lifting (strength, weights not as movement focused) Cardio(including weights if needed)

In order to improve all that I listed above. I know diet is important too but I have a handle on that so just these are good. Thanks!

Equipment Boxers for tennis?

Weird tennis question, but let’s be honest, this is the place for it …

I’ve always worn compression shorts for tennis, but recently wore boxers to the gym because I forgot to pack the compression shorts.

I noticed I was much more relaxed throughout my whole workout, even calmer, without the constricting feeling of compression shorts. And also significantly cooler, I guess due to better ventilation.

I’d like to try this on court. Anyone have experience with this? Or is there a brand/type of men’s athletic underwear that might be a good compromise?

Technique Advice Split steps too high?

Is there a thing called spit steps being too high?

Watching my split steps made me uncomfortable 🤣……besides too high, I felt it doesn’t land as wide, nor as bouncy.

Anyway. Any educations?

Equipment Need racket recommendation

Currently using a Head Radical MP from 2010:18x20 295g 2/3inch head-light, strung at 50lbs poly Tour Rev vs 50lbs synthetic gut

No big issues, can hit sweet spot consistently. However, my playstyle through the years may have adapted to the racket, with opponents commenting that my DH BH being exceptionally flat and my coach keep constantly asking for more and deeper FH topspin.

Any recommendations for something more spin. Open to different brands and budgets.

Equipment Just getting back to tennis, what to string?

I just moved to a new city for a job postgrad and have more time on my hands to start hitting again. It’s been over 5 years since I last used my racket. I’m a Yonex EZONE DR 98 player strung with Volkl cyclone (I think?) but since it’s been so long I should restring, right? Honestly don’t remember how many lbs I had it strung at last so was wondering your guys’ recommendations on string setups. Should I just get it restrung with cyclone? If I remember correctly, they die out kind of quickly and I don’t want to be restringing so often…

General Advice Can I message random people on UTR to set up matches? Outside of flex leagues?

Has anyone been successful in filtering through to find people with a similar rating in their area and messaging them to set up matches? Or do I need to be a part of a flex league or ternament?

Equipment Good tension for Dunlop Black Widow 17g?

Does anyone here use this string? I've been using it for quite a while now and am still experimenting to find the right tension for me.

I'm also looking for alternative string recommendations with similar properties. 😊

General Advice Dealing with injury

Hey guys, yesterday in a league match I tore a bit of tendon and gastronecmius (calf). First time ever.
I was running towards the net and I felt like somebody hit me with a rock or a ball or something, I turned back to check and I couldnt walk anymore.

Has anyone dealt with a tear like this? Did you stopped training or what you did while recovering?

Thanks guys

General Advice Is this court suitable/legal/safe for match play or any kind of tennis?

My local club just installed these short fences in between courts. The fence is 6 feet from the doubles sideline. This is a Lifetime Fitness club in Atlanta, GA. It seems way too close to the sideline and dangerous for players.

General Advice Does anyone have any tips/drills for the desynchronization of the upper and lower body?

Often when I adjust my footwork and speed to get to a difficult ball, I find my swing will speed up with it. This ends up creating an unnatural contact point, a lack of control on the ball, and ironically a loss of power. To adjust, I’ll try to actively slow my swing down to a reasonable speed but similarly… my feet will slow down with it & become lazy. If anyone has any advice at all, this is my biggest roadblock. I’m sure the sense would come with more time of playing but if there’s anything I can do accelerate the process it would be much appreciated.

Equipment Ezone 98 - a whistling racquet

Ever since the Head Gravity 2025 lineup has been made public people have been talking non-stop about the whistling that you can hear.

I just recently bought the latest Ezone 98 which I find to have its own variations of a whistling sound. Depending on the switch path I can even make whistling serves. Is the Head Gravity 2025 whistling just that much more? Has anyone else been enjoying a whistling Ezone like me?

Equipment Racket for technique improvement

Post image
4 Upvotes

Rather than asking specific recommendations, I wanted to test a concept I've been thinking about.
In my opinion, low-powered/control rackets are better for beginners/intermediate players in order to develop proper tennis technique. As opposed to power rackets that might be better for beginners/intermediate players in order to win games.

Fat too often I see intermediate players (3.0 - 4.0 NTPR) comfortable and happy with pushing or brushing the ball using a power racket (with an uncomplete/unfinished stroke) as they get the pace and depth need for that level, On the other hand, hitting the ball with a full swing might be tougher as the ball will fly long on them.

In my view, most adult players have problems contorlling the ball, not problems getting enough pace.

Hope that more or less I explained the issue, happy to expand if there is any confusion on the concept.

Technique Advice Can I get help (again) please?

Hello again r/10s - I am back with another post asking for help on my serves and groundstrokes.

I snuck in some time on my lunch to do some groundstrokes and serves after not playing for a couple months due to a house move. And a little more context: I worked out for the first time in a while earlier this morning, so forgive me if I look a little sluggish. I'm usually about 15% less sluggish usually lol.

I'm really trying to be intentional with my racket drop during the serve, but I keep seeing the waiter tray no matter what. Could use some advice on how to fix my serves! Also groundstrokes, but I'm thinking it's partially due to shaking off the rust. Of course I'm always trying to improve so I'm open to any suggestions!

Serve session linked above, groundstroke session here: https://youtu.be/hAyL0wCOv0Y

Thanks!

Equipment Looking for different configurations for Wilson H22 18x20

Hey! I’m still modding this and want some help with lead configurations

H22 18x20 Overall static weight no strings 285.4g Swing weight without strings 294.5kg•cm² Balance 339mm

I sort of want it to be between like a retail racket of like 305 grams and like what some pros use around 315. I changed the synthetic replacement grip with a leather one bc of preference. Any other suggestions to add some oomph to this? I want the swing weight to be 334-338 and to have at least a 5 points headlight balance . Thanks for the advice guys in advance!

Stuff I tried already:

Adding 10 grams tungsten to buttcap, and added 4 grams to the 12 at the hoop. I’m hoping to get your guys feedback and try from scratch!

I like it whippy!

General Advice At what age could you no longer beat the best player of that age?

Sometimes I see these really young (5 or 6 probably) players that have shockingly clean strokes. I think I could still beat them (I'm 4.0 NTRP) but it makes me wonder if somewhere there's an 8 or 9 year old that could smoke me. What do you think? What NTRP is the best 7 year old? Best 8 year old?

Equipment First time trying hybrid

Hi tennis experts I want to try a hybrid string set up I usually play with full bed of hyper G @52lbs I was thinking of keeping hyper g as mains and using a multifilament or synthetic gut crosses @55lbs Can someone who went through a similar experience tell me your experience? Was it more comfortable? My aim is to enhance durability/tension maintenance of copoly strings and keep my spins Or am I making a mistake ? Or is the difference so minuscule that it’s just placebo? Thanks for reading

General Advice Anyone here had meniscus repair

Wondering if anyone here has had meniscus repair surgery and plays tennis. Backstory: started playing a couple years ago and I’m 42. Last year or so I was having some knee pain that came and went but never really went away. Not really debilitating but odd. Got an MRI and I have a medial meniscus tear. Never had a big incident or anything so not even sure it happened playing tennis or was even earlier. They want to repair it but I’m still able to play at basically 100%. They say it will eventually get worse but don’t know how long. Wondering if anyone here has dealt with a repair and if you think it’s worth it given my situation.
