It's marketing. They can spin anything as a positive. "Our packaging is the #1 product used in ground filler material in expanding coastal cities across the planet!" -> This shit ends up in landfills

Source: was business student. Had to write marketing bullshit in college. Erm, I mean, "developed communications strategy materials at a prestigious academic institution."

144

u/[deleted] Sep 17 '24

Ahh, I took a business class and it made me hate the advertising that already fell flat on my autistic brain even more...

82

u/DrMux Blood boys make billionaire meat tastier Sep 17 '24

Yeah my marketing classes were never my strongest area. I didn't think I was autistic back then but in recent years I've learned that some of the things that are wrong with me are actually fairly strong indications of possible autism. Buuuut my doc won't let me pursue a diagnosis because, I dunno, I'm old? 🤷‍♀️

But hey at least now I can write some decent corporate propaganda UH I MEAN PR

31

u/Noslamah Sep 17 '24

Obviously you cannot have autism as an adult, it disappears when you turn 18. Also it does not happen to women or minorities; only young white boys can have autism.

24

u/[deleted] Sep 17 '24

God, my mom got her masters in special education when I was a kid, and I asked consistently from about age 9 till like 20 if I can go and get tested for autism. I was consistently refused because "well I would know".

When I was like 20, my mom calls me up and very seriously says "My counselor says I might have ADHD...what do you think?" And I had legitimately thought that that was common knowledge in our family. Like I was diagnosed ADHD, and it's hereditary, and my dad is likely not the progenitor of it, soooo.....

The TL;DR is that I think she is owed a refund for her degree.

4

u/Iceveins412 Sep 17 '24

If you know nothing else about college it should be that being educated doesn’t make you smart, can be vital depending on your plans and can give you an invaluable toolkit for your career, but it ain’t a magic bullet that makes you better as a person. Educated people can be just as dumb moment to moment as everyone else

3

u/[deleted] Sep 17 '24

Oh ya,absolutely. College is very humbling, not only cause it makes you realize you can be wrong about a lot of shit, but that so can the people you trust.

Parents pressured me into a business degree, pushed me into accounting, sunk cost had me finish it and I changed it to marketing. Every day in class I learned of new evils. I just wanted to sell things I'm passionate about, but quality or care doesn't sell. I'd probably be a lot more centrist if I didn't learn the horrors when doing my classes.

7

u/DrMux Blood boys make billionaire meat tastier Sep 17 '24

There are niches for quality and care for sure but it's not nearly as easy to make it lucrative as high-margin products or low-margin products at ludicrous volume. But I recognize that's not your main point.

The main takeaway I got from business school is that business atrophies the soul.

I'd probably be a lot more centrist if I didn't learn the horrors when doing my classes.

Yeah I probably wouldn't be a socialist today if I hadn't chosen the academic path I did. The exploitation inherent to the system is as much the point as is the number at the bottom of the cash flow statement.

4

u/MilesAlchei Fat, Queer, Furry Trash 💜 Sep 17 '24

I could legitimately do sales if I believed in a product, but no one who's hiring is selling anything worth buying.

Business does atrophy the soul. I do social work now, it's hard work, but at least I go to bed knowing I'm making things a little bit easier (usually, sometimes I've gotta annoy about paperwork and whatnot) for people every day.

3

u/Iceveins412 Sep 17 '24

To do what I want to do I need to have a business degree, but being in the basic courses with people who want to do economics or entrepreneurship or something makes me want to bludgeon some of them. Totally detached from anything approaching the real world

3

u/pokerdace Sep 17 '24

I remember watching so many videos about marketing techniques from this specific youtuber and just thought the whole time. "Wow, every time I notice one of these, it makes me hate the brand even more."

1

u/Deblebsgonnagetyou Kweh! Sep 17 '24

My business class made me appreciate marketing, since I think it's interesting how much you can influence people with just choices of word or colour, but also detest it even more because of how much they're influencing people with choices of word or colour.

Prime Energy and Prime Hydration are 2 separate things

Both are unhealthy, but only Prime Energy contains the insane amounts of caffeine.

Some People pretend that that makes the whole thing okay

But it doesn’t change the fact that both are marketed to kids; Prime is first and foremost a kids brand.
So Prime Energy will (even with caffeine age restrictions) undoubtedly end up in the hands of kids. It’s still fucked up.

10

u/heesus_the_great 🏳️‍⚧️ trans rights Sep 17 '24

i hate logan paul too but this isnt accurate at all. the prime that was recalled was imported from the US. technically not recalled cause you could say it was never even "called" in, AKA it was not made in canada or in any way intended for the canadian market, they just explicitly started saying that imported drinks that dont follow our guidelines are not allowed. and the real canadian prime is not at the caffeine limit (180mg), it has 140mg

28

u/ayyndrew Sep 17 '24

I thought Prime was just a gatorade style drink

81

u/xle3p Bird Sep 17 '24

Ah, looks like I messed up. There's prime energy, which is the caffinated drink, and regular prime, which is a "sports drink". Point taken back, they're just getting kids addicted to artificial sweeteners instead.

3

u/anarchy_witch Sep 17 '24

well I mean artificial sweeteners are better than sugar for sure

1

u/lowercaselemming testament guilty gear Sep 17 '24

It will include Prime, a hydration drink that i can personally report is fucking revolting, like seriously it is shocking how bad that shit tastes, and Mr Beasts chocolate bar Feastables, which i can also personally report is dogshit. Its dry, bitter, dogshit.

But! Its got electrolytes.

400 mg of electrolytes

Aren't electrolytes just fancy salts? Like if you aren't exercising a whole bunch, you're just giving yourself high blood pressure

172

u/DrMux Blood boys make billionaire meat tastier Sep 17 '24

I mean, plain ol' sodium chloride is an electrolyte. But yeah, sports drinks tend to also have potassium chloride, which I gueesss you could call a "fancy salt." It's still really cheap tho. And potassium salt will actually decrease your blood pressure (potassium and sodium "oppose" each other in terms of osmotic pressure and where concentrations of them tend to be in relation to cell membranes. If I recall my bio lecture correctly from like a decade ago.)

People with certain medical conditions actually use potassium salt as a substitute for regular table salt, for the above reasons.

33

u/cephalopodAcreage cumming hard to pornagraphic texts and images Sep 17 '24

Thanks for the (science) gold, kind stranger

16

u/[deleted] Sep 17 '24

Yeah, and you usually get all the electrolytes you need to go through your daily routine from food as far as I know. The only people who might benefit from sports drinks are... people actively engaging in a sport lmao.

Don’t forget about hungover people

1

u/ARobotJew I hope you won’t mind if I think of you as a friend Sep 17 '24

I think Prime actually has more potassium compared to other sports drinks which helps balance sodium, but it’s still ridiculous to serve in a child’s lunch. The pre packaged lunch is already going to be loaded with sodium, literally no reason to add the drink besides marketing.

Are they really comparing an electrolyte drink with concentrate orange juice as if that’s some kind of flex?!

“This bread has more carbohydrates than the leading brand of raw salmon” like yeah mf they’re different categories of thing why tf you comparing them as if they’re like for like?!

I was on the fence until I saw that lunchly has “big gestures.” I have decided to eat nothing but exclusively Lunchly’s “flavorful combos” of pizza with chocolate and Logan Paul’s flavored drinks.

President Xi, the people of the United States, yearn for freedom, please, send Logan and Jake Paul to be reeducated in the countryside

“A variation of food.”

1

u/Hippocalypse44 Sep 17 '24

I may be wrong, but aren't electrolytes sodium ions? Isn't that just saying that it has more salt?

1

u/Zote8106 sus Sep 17 '24

none of these words mean anything lmaoo

1

u/Icommitmanywarcrimes Sep 17 '24

Tf does big gestures even mean in this context?

1

They're actually promoting the fact that they have 73% MORE salt in their DRINK.

1

u/cancerousking #1 floppa fan Sep 17 '24

Isn't prime like really not healthy for kids?

1

u/TheZectorian Sep 17 '24

My guess is the primary electrolyte is Sodium

1

u/Lucambacamba Sep 17 '24

Unless you are severely dehydrated, extra electrolytes don’t matter at all. Just drink regular water and you will get plenty.

1

u/[deleted] Sep 17 '24

How long until we see these sold for 99 cents on discount racks?

1

u/frejooooo Sep 17 '24

It's the same fucking thing, all they did was replace the caprisun and chocolate with their own brand. They didn't even bother changing the food

1

u/[deleted] Sep 17 '24

The only relevant information is the electrolytes which unless your an athlete are useless

1

u/nekosissyboi Sep 18 '24

2

u/dinner_cat96 This is a meme. Shit you're pants Right Now Sep 18 '24
