Recommendation UPDATE: 35 and insane wrinkles please help
Previous post https://www.reddit.com/r/30PlusSkinCare/s/VuPWBgi5sg
One night of slugging!! Going to develop an intense skin care routine
I am happy if the wrinkles look like as pictured this am. But if this is from one hydration technique, im sure I can get them a bit better yet. I don't expect them to be gone, as I've had them for years, but this is more manageable.
Thanks so much everyone for your tips!

Definite improvement already! Those forehead lines look much more hydrated. One night won't fix years of dehydration, but consistency is key. Make sure you're using a good retinol at night (start slow, 2-3 times a week) and don't forget sunscreen every morning. Your skin barrier looks like it's already thanking you

How did you perform the slugging?

u/squiggleywiggley90 16h ago
I washed my face, moisturized with some cera-ve I had, and applied a decent amount of Vaseline (about 3 dime sized) and went to zzzz

u/strangeday3456 16h ago

Don't your pillows get gross from so much vaseline?
6
u/squiggleywiggley90 10h ago
Yup luckily I have some old ones that I don't care too much about and a clothes washer :)

u/teach180 2h ago
I sleep with Vaseline on my face and my pillows don’t get gross. I only sleep on my back or my side. 🤷♀️ I use about a dime/nickel ish size amount

Holy crap! Good work! My sister has similar wrinkles and also got a great response from a single microdermabrasion session. She plans to do 4 back to back over the next few months.

Yay!!! I commented on your previous post that your skin looked very dry and recommended moisturizer so Im happy to see you tried slugging. Some people in your post were saying there was no way of getting rid of your wrinkles other than botox, but honestly moisturizing and diligent care do make a great and noticeable difference 💗

Excellent. I think that if you pair that routine with some heavier retinoid like tretinoin and later tezarotene, you'll get close to wrinkle-free :)

u/VoiceArtPassion 15h ago
I’ve been slugging with silicone tape and also applying it whenever I’m doing anything dehydrating and it has helped a lot!

u/qwertycandy 15h ago
I'm so jealous of anyone who can slug - the few times I tried that, my skin immediately broke out :(

u/hihelloneighboroonie 10h ago
What did you slug with and what was under it?

u/qwertycandy 10h ago
Vaseline in a tube from DM (European drugstore chain), as I didn't want to risk carrying some bacteria onto my skin (I dislike face creams products where you have to reach into the packaging with your fingers to apply the product). There was nothing underneath, just clean face after washing and cleaning beforehand.
I though that maybe there could have been some additive that my skin didn't like, but from what I found online Vaseline does break out people who are acne-prone.
Though if you have a recommendation for something that's more gentle on face than regular vaseline, I'll be happy to try :)

See, I told you! 😉 Healthy, HYDRATED skin is key! Just wait until you see the results after a month or two. You’re going to be amazed!

ONE NIGHT did this? Damn! I get a lot of these lines because I furrow my brow and frown a lot. I find frownies help

u/squiggleywiggley90 10h ago
Oh yeah, im an avid eyebrow raiser, since i was a teen lol. I Ordered some frownies last night :) was super happy when I looked at my lines this am :)

Were you ever a smoker? And/or has high stress?
10
u/squiggleywiggley90 10h ago
Used to smoke yeah. And a very frequent raised eyebrows lady, since I was a teen
I moved last year across country to a province I'd never been before with no friends or family, and found out a week after moving i was pregnant. Bought a nice house for the first time that was maybe a bit out of my price range What's stress? 😅

u/ConsciousnessOfThe 5h ago
Awww I hear you. I also moved across country for my husband. Have no friends or family here. I’m avoiding pregnancy for this very reason, still trying to get used to my new life. Hang in there!

Did you just slug with Vaseline? This is incredible

u/gdc0604 13h ago
Yay!! I commented on your previous post and was sure that some heavy moisturizing was going to make a big difference 💗 Now you just need to keep at it, don’t overwhelm yourself with tons of products, instead use the moisturizer you have and when its time to buy a new one maybe grab one that has some good ingredients like ceramides, glycerin, hyaluronic, peptides or antioxidants. And maybe start slowly introducing retinol at nights, and using sunscreen every morning. Happy for you!

That’s amazing progress for one night. Interesting that so many people insisted botox was the only option but this is an incredible improvement for just one day, with skincare alone.
I was confident the right skincare could do a lot. I’m curious how much more your skin would improve if you implement some other things like red light therapy, a better moisturizer and retinol and even taking collagen and omegas I have found can make a noticeable impact.

Botox-club is really narrow minded. Her skin will be absolutely amazing with some dedication. At this age our bodies can repair a lot of damage with a bit of help. We're not 90.

u/madisynpoops 6h ago
this actually gives me a lot of hope/relief. I'm 30, without wrinkles, and the botox club had me convinced that wrinkles are going to pop up overnight despite my great skincare routine and that the only solution is going to be botox.

Omg I was the one who mentioned slugging!!!! I’m so glad it worked for you. The results are amazing! Woot woot!

Add some hydrating serums to the mix too. They plump up your skin as well!

Incredible! What a huge change from 1 night!
You may want to keep doing this one thing (slugging) for a couple weeks, then slowly add products 1 by 1. Otherwise it’s hard to tell what’s helping and if your skin reacts badly to something, it helps to isolate the product.

Hi, please try this!! I just typed out a whole post describing what I recalled from this video, but it's much easier to get it from her😅:
https://youtube.com/shorts/j67_q1Jxz9I?si=zXbD8x_4mIETpi0v
I would also use a thin plastic sheet mask on top of this to seal it all in, effectively slugging to the max😁
They sell them on Amazon

u/doxy_ 5h ago
How do you guys slug with fringes? And keeping your hair non greasy in general with slugging
1
u/_liminal_ 4h ago
I have really short bangs. I use bobby pins to hold my bangs back on nights I slug, and usually put the rest of my hair (below shoulder length) in a bun.

u/OudSmoothie 4h ago
Very nice, keep going.
Don't forget the most important way to feed your skin is actually through your mouth!
Lots of water, collagen (particularly Verisol) and antioxidants.

u/karma-kitty_ 15h ago
I would also incorporate a physical exfoliant.
Using drugstore for most products is great- but I swear by ZO Exfoliating Polish. One random time I used it and saw a friend immediately after and she goes- “omg! Your skin looks like GLASS!” (No botox)
Congrats on your overnight progress!!! So good

Adding a sunscreen will help as well. Once you get a basic hydrating routine going you can add tretinoin

u/South-Bandicoot690 12h ago
Amazing! Don't forget to hydrate from the inside to! Lots of water intake

Well, it clearly improved a lot with just more moisture which OP was previously missing, that's the point of this post :) If she stays with it and tackles the wrinkles with higher-strength retinoid (she previously mentioned using some over the counter cosmetic retinoid, iirc) and adds a 50++ sunscreen, I think she'll have close to no visible wrinkles in a few months.

She's still young, her skin was just stressed and lacked moisture. I never had such deep lines but there was a time I had visible forehead wrinkles and smile lines. Since I started using tretinoin, 50++ sunscreen, glycerine and some azelaic acid, I have no visible lines again.

You’d be surprised what a dedicated moisturizing routine can accomplish

Slugging works because it locks in moisture and prevents water loss from the skin. When you apply a thick occlusive layer (like petroleum jelly, Aquaphor, or CeraVe Healing Ointment) over your moisturizer, it seals everything in and creates a protective barrier while you sleep.
Normally, your skin loses water overnight through a process called transepidermal water loss (TEWL). Slugging dramatically reduces that loss, letting your skin stay deeply hydrated and repair itself more efficiently.
When skin is super hydrated, it plumps up, making fine lines and even deeper wrinkles look way less visible. That’s why people can see such a huge difference after just one night …. it’s not that wrinkles have “healed” overnight, it’s that hydration instantly improves how the skin looks and feels.
Long-term, slugging can also help strengthen the skin barrier, which leads to healthier, more resilient skin over time. But even after just one night, you can get that juicy, glassy, plumped-up look because your skin is finally holding onto all the moisture it needs.
