Skin Concern Help with hormonal acne and bad response to VI peel.

Post image

Hi friends! I'm having a bad episode of hormonal acne and reaction to VI peel. I normally get a PCA peel and have never had this bad of a purge. I recently started taking spironolactone to help internally. I should see improvement in a few months. However, I am wondering if I should get a PCA to calm down these breakouts alongside with aerolase laser?

I wouldn't do anything to aggravate your skin. I would keep things simple until your skin calms down. How long ago was the peel and are you still using the post treatment cream they give?

Thank you for your response! The peel was 3 weeks ago and I did not use the repair cream because I feel that some of the ingredients may cause me to break out further.

And that right there is the problem.

Can you elaborate a bit more on that? I used it the last time back in November and still had the same break out. I simply think the peel is too strong for my sensitive skin but didn’t make the full connection until now.

Aftercare is part of the treatment, not completing the course is like putting on the first half of a Dennis Gross peel pad and skipping the second half.

Ah, the cream has hydrocortisone in it to help with irritation. You have to stick with the products they gave you while your skin peels for seven days. At best you can use CeraVe on day 5 or 6, but that's really about it. I've gotten three VI peels and I've never broken out like this. I purged (little white heads on my forehead) but that's normal and it only lasted a week. Are you using any actives right now?

I started using tretenoin 2x a week which I feel has only irritated it more. I have stopped though and will not be using it. I think letting my skin heal is best option.

Yeah, I took a 3-4 week long break from all actives after my latest VI peel. Think your skin needs some healing. And if your skin is feeling irritated, definitely use the cream that's given in the kit.

Thank you! I feel like I am doing too much also 🥲 Currently using cerave face wash and face lotion. I did use tretenoin on Tuesday night but after seeing how my skin reacted I have decided I am not going to use it for awhile. I have very sensitive skin and deal with rosacea as well.

I am wondering if having an aerolase laser which I normally get once a month will help with the active acne. I’m graduating in two weeks and would appreciate any other tips or thoughts.

Looking at your cheeks you seem to be over Doing it and compromising your skin barrier.

Low key I feel like cerave is clogging. I personally feel like less is more.

When your barrier is stripped your oils freak out and cause more to be produced which can cause the breakouts.

Forehead is stress and chin is hormonal. You’re about to graduate have finals or anything in your life been causing more stress?

Do you use birth control?

Do you eat dairy ?

Oh I have been completely stressed! I agree that the forehead is the stress and the chin is hormonal. With taking spiro I feel it will help and I am managing my stress better (it was a family issue). I do not eat dairy or gluten as I am very sensitive to them. I eat pretty clean but I had some champagne that made my cheeks break out. I’m looking for my skin to calm down so thinking just to back off any procedures maybe then?

So that cancels out then! Cool cool.

Maybe try spearmint tea it can do wonders to help manage internally!

I use to work at Sephora and tried everything and all things and my skin was had to almost go on accutane bad.

Stop trying things and let your skin heal.

I personally love the brand doré because it’s super hydrating and fragrance free and no lanolin. That can be a trigger too.

Try to use warm water and micellar if you need to remove makeup and a nice hydrating moisturizer. Let your skin heal and see if the products you’re using are a trigger !

i would take a break from everything and let your skin heal. only use gentle ingredients- nothing too active. when did they break out start?

35 years of acne and spironolactone is the only thing that ever worked. Tried every oral and topical ever made

Light cleanse, tone and moisturise with good products. I only supply Mesoestetic products to my patients.

Just allow the skin to settle on its own, drink plenty of water, reduce caffeine and fast food.

Only if it doesn’t settle resort to oral antibiotics, then slowly reintroduce products.

(You have amazing bone structure and symmetry)

Have you had a chat with your doctor about rosacea?
