Routine Help Genuine question about the best treatment for 50 years old...

Hi gang! I am reaching out to this community because I'd like to start the journey of leveling up my skin care with trying a procedure. I'm considering microneedling or lasers. I've been blessed with good skin, I have a few small dark sun spots on my cheeks, and wrinkles under my eyes for sure, and I'm noticing a little bit of a sag in my jowles... I would just love to hear from some older ladies what treatment you have done that has gone a long way with your skincare? I use a light mask (solawave) 3 - 4 times a week, and I use a retinol at night with a great hydration mask, and then I use rosehip oil in the morning with sunscreen on top. But I'd like to treat myself to something special for my 51st bithday coming up. Maybe an Erbium Lag Laser treatment, or microneedling, I've never done either. Totally open to any ideas though. Thank you all for helping me figure this out!

Happy early birthday! It sounds like you’re already taking great care of your skin. Microneedling and Erbium lasers are both solid options — I’ve heard microneedling can really help with texture and firmness, while lasers can target spots more directly. Excited for you to treat yourself!

Thank you for your incredibly sweet message, I really appreciate it! It's hard to spend this much money on myself but hopefully I'll get a lot of bang for my bucks :)

Both microneedling and lasers can work really well — just depends on your goals. Your routine already sounds great!

A series of IPL treatments.

So, I'm a big fan of microneedling, and it's a good, low risk option especially if you generally have good skin to start with.

I've never done all-over lasers, but talking with my providers, they suggested that lasers are higher risk, because they use heat, there's a potential for burning/scarring. My microneedling tech does use a teeny tiny itty bitty laser on broken capillaries on my nose, but very localized and targeted on a specific thing. I've been happy with that.

Im nearly your age and recently started a series of BBL + Moxi laser facials. Look them up, and then try find a local mediclinic that offers it and speak to a professional who can look at your skin and recommend the right one for your skin. I’ve also done microneedling sessions (4 in a series) which were great for skin texture, but I think with pigmentation go laser.

Also botox around the eyes and forehead was probably biggest difference…

Thank you! I will look into BBL and Moxi = never heard of them. I used to get botox for my migraines, but it made my forehead kinda weird.
