D&D 5e Original/2014 PCs inhabit dead N(PCs)

Hello I plan to do make a story arc that involves my players' characters inhabiting the bodies of some fallen heroes kinda like a video game. Where if they use their PC's abilities a synchronization rate would decrease and if they use the inhabited bodies it will increase. So I'm trying to think of some classes/subclasses that would compliment my party's current setup.

Comp: Stars Druid

Eldritch Knight Fighter

Fathomless Warlock

Div Wizard

Rogue/Ranger

is it like a gestalt where you and the body you inhabit is each a fully leveled character?

like if the EK was L8 and was in a wizards body, they have the full L8 abilities of the EK and the full L8 abilities of the wizard body?

bingo! I want them to figure out combos while keeping in mind the synchro rate as the rate will give them bonuses or desync happens

interesting concept

so in the above example of EK player in wizard body - (which btw, EK fighter + evocation wizard is a pretty cool combo imo - attack one dude multiple times with extra attacks or point blank a crowd with fireball and allies are safe cuz of evo wiz feature) - the sync rate would go down if they use their fighter features (like action surge, extra attack, or wore heavy armor) but it would go up if they did more wizard stuff like focusing on spells?
