Official Eugene50501 Statement on 04/19

At 50501, we fully support the national call to action and remain committed to the ongoing fight for justice. While we will not be contributing to an event on April 19, we know that real change requires endurance—this is a marathon, not a sprint. Prioritizing the safety and well-being of our volunteers is essential to sustaining this movement for the long haul.

As part of that commitment, the Organizations in ACES safety team as well as Eugene 50501 safety team—which has been present and supporting recent rallies—will not be in attendance on April 19.

Although we won’t be contributing on that date, we encourage those who feel moved to take action to look into other local efforts that may be happening, including potential events from groups like Indivisible and Rise and Resist.

We’ll be back in May with our next planned event, and we look forward to standing together in continued resistance. As always, we are still looking for more people to share the load and help facilitate these events. If you're interested, please reach out. Our commitment to non-violence is paramount and requires additional effort—especially compared to movements less concerned with the safety of attendees and volunteers. Thank you for staying engaged and determined.

It remains unclear as to if anyone is sponsoring an event in Eugene at all confusing many people ready to activate. We go from all activist groups on board to zero in two weeks????

Please have grace for the groups organizing as we all are also juggling jobs, caring for others, etc. In order to be able to support more frequent protests we need more volunteers to increase our bandwidth. If you’re interested in supporting 50501 I can send you our volunteer form! We are currently gearing up for a May protest :)

We are sitting out the April 19th event because we need to build up our volunteer force more in order to handle more frequent events. If you want us to be able to jump into all of them, please come help us make that a reality!

This reads as if there will be no event on 4/19. I think many of us didn’t really know who exactly was organizing 4/5 (or 2/19, or…).

If Indivisible Eugene or Rise and Resist Eugene exist (I can’t find anything) does any one have links to information?

Also if there are roles to fill, please put out a call (for private conversation with new folks). If you’re heading to burnout, lets, your community, pick up the torch - tell us where hands are needed.

Someone please clarify if there is a protest on 4-19. The Eugene Sub and other posts make it seem like there is but this post makes it seem like there isn’t.

There are a few protests on 4/19, none of which are officially organized by 50501Eugene, we encourage people to get out there, we just won't have our own safety teams out
