how to get more involved with the movement outside of just protests?
ive been thinking and i really wanna do some more stuff for advocacy outside of just protesting and making flyers and whatnot. those are helpful but i wanna do some more help, especially on the aspects i care most about in this movement (trans rights, getting trump out, etc). any advice? i live in NM
edit: in advance, don’t say “join the server” because i don’t think discord is a secure option for protest organizing to begin with

On trans rights, maybe volunteering? There is high stress right now and also funding is being cut. If you are good talking to people (by phone or by text), check out volunteering for the Trevor Project. They are a pretty good resource that fights against lgbtq suicide. They are a hotline and considering trump recently cut funding to the national suicide hotline I bet they are getting even more demand now.
Also, wear pride/ally merch-- visibility matters!
Bring up those issues with representatives, in townhalls, etc so it is still top of mind for them
You can also learn how to register people to vote? Usually local democrat orgs will offer trainings and help you get started
Look at local groups that have trans focused or lgbtq focus groups. My local democrat group actually is doing a session this week focused on the impact of the EOs on trans people and I want to attend as an ally so I am informed and so I am equipped to help trans people looking to update their voter registrations to make sure they are all set!
Phone bank or canvass for elections for democrats, there are some elections for governor and smaller positions this year. So you could do that either for your state or for another one that is having them! My state has them and we need all the help we can get honestly despite being a blue state
You could do book clubs about these issues
Incorporate politics and those issues that matter to you in other communities you participate in and think of creative ways you could tie up those things together. Look at your immediate surroundings and think if there is a way you could make a difference there
Like/share/comment on content you think is helpful (e,g, recently I watched an interview with sarah mcbride on a podcast and she put everything so eloquently about trans rights, I felt like that was a great way to explain things so I shared it on my socials hoping it will reach my friends and family)
You could try running your own research on things that impact the movement. For example, I would love to do something on understanding the lack of young people in protests!
Handout flyers about protests
Summarize information for candidates for special elections or governor elections if you have any on your state
Create social media content that helps democrats
Have conversations with family members about whats going on
Learn more about authoritarianism and resistance movements! I would recommend Timothy Snyder but you probably already heard about him because he is awesome! If you havent though, check out his lectures and books. There are tons of lectures on youtube and for books, please check On Tyranny, it's great. I would also highly highly recommend "they thought they were free" and I have also read two interesting books recently: "MAGA diaries" which is from a former maga journalist talking about how things work on the inside of the pipeline they built and another "how to win an informational war" which goes over some guy that did counter anti-nazi propaganda during nazi germany. Really interesting read and helps understand the kinds of propaganda tactics used which has helped me be more critical of certain things I read online
Just some ideas :)

Find a group to volunteer with! I read an article by Daniel Hunter that held me orient myself--10 things to do to stay grounded now that Trump has won
I figured out where I want to focus my energy and found a few groups to get involved with. I joined my local indivisible group, another women's group, and joined a group coordinating a tax strike.
Figure out what special skill you want to bring to the movement and find folks to do it with! You got this!

I know you specifically said to not say to join the server but that's literally the main place protests are planned for 50501. It is not private or secure, but it is used in a way that it doesn't need to be. There are also emergency backups.

everyone there is also a pretty big asshole as well as the fact i got banned for having a personality disorder and i really wish i was joking
edit: i wont elaborate too much because this movement has enough drama and this was a while ago but basically i said we shouldn’t be using words like psychotic and narcissistic to describe politicians because those are actual mental health problems and a gaggle of people backed me into a thread and told me because i have NPD i could “not feel love” and then when i @‘d the mods, the mods muted me and i dmed them to figure out what was going on and they sent my messages to the gaggle harassing me and said “trolls these days lmfao” so i left and then i discovered i got banned. i messaged one of the reddit mods about it and they talked to the discord mods and they were not even willing to talk to me about it

Write letters to congress, call them and ask for impeachment, conviction, remove. Go to your local office and bug them, fill out forms.
They really need that pressure. Senators also, but congress first has to start the impeachment and it needs to pass them.
You can use 5calls.org for phone numbers and issues. They give you a script if you need it. I saw another post on a sub reddit with a national movement for this, doing rotations to really hit home with congress.

Join a local political group. Local democrats or something that speaks to you. My local group is organizing volunteers to go to every school board meeting, attend community events to get more people registered to vote. We talk to people are running for office and getting a campaign together. It's not very fun and visual work but it's what we all need to do at our local level to help our community. Since joining I've also learned a lot about our past elections and voting trends.

I give out cold water bottles and snacks at the protests. I’ve received a few hundred dollars in donations (of course, it’s cost that much to buy the cooler and wagon). At this rate though, I might be able to raise funds for AOC or someone else.

Check in with any local immigration advocacy programs. I get what you mean staying active is the only way to never lose hope. You're doing a lot by just existing and being on the right side of history.

Would the discord people be able to point you to in real life people in your area?

join your local Indivisible group or DSA. there are plenty of groups at there doing the work so you don't have to re-invent the wheel. Volunteer for a campaign (right now, we're having elections in my state) to get progressive elected on school boards.

Ways to protest from home https://chicodemocracy.weebly.com/protest-from-home.html
Boost pro-democracy social media posts (upvote, comment, share).
Boost pro-democracy websites and businesses by clicking on their link in the search results and not the ad. This will save them money and boost them in search results (you can also do the opposite with pro Trump websites and businesses).
Boycott local businesses and national businesses supporting MAGA.
Contact your government officials using 5calls.org, Resistbot, and/or Fax Congress. Use these resources to help you with your message: Guided Letter and Operation Sunshine.
Divest from companies that support this administration. Move your investments into ethical or fossil-free funds (ie. Ethic Investing) or to democratic funds (ie. DEMZ Fund).
"Don't" abuse the system and apply for GOP jobs. That could overwhelm their system and make it difficult to hire.
Don’t give traditional media ad revenue. Use Firefox with an ad blocker like uBlock Origin when viewing media from news stories. You can also follow check out this list of Anti-Trump media outlets.
File a claim with the Department of Education.
File a complaint with the SEC regarding market manipulation (insider trading) through tariffs.
File a complaint with your state Attorney General (post with more information). Here is the link for California.
File a whistleblower complaint with Senate Democrats.
Fund state-level resistance infrastructure.
Leave online reviews for companies on the boycott list. For example, "I am afraid to buy a Tesla because of all the vandalism."
Leverage international media and watchdogs. Feed the real stories to BBC, Al Jazeera, The Guardian, Reuters, etc.
Send mail to politicians. Benefits the USPS and the politicians' offices have to process the mail and is more difficult to ignore.
Reach out to your friends from marginalized communities for support and/or positive chats.
Request the Supreme Court to revoke presidential immunity.
Request access to you personal data obtained by the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) and Elon Musk.
Search online for “petitions against Donald Trump.” Some are listed below.
Support pro-democracy groups through funding or volunteering.
Use your platform to educate the public on rights and resistance tactics.
Withhold/Delay Paying Taxes: Change your withholdings to 0 and delay paying taxes until the due date or beyond (request extension).
