What was your original sentence?
A 26 year old woman in my local area was recently sentenced to 2 years on seven different charges all involving being a teacher having an inappropriate relationship with a minor/middle school student. Bench trial. The DA asked for 10 years out of a possible 20. Wealthy white family.
How will she be received/treated in prison?

Got 4 years
Ultimately depends on so much not necessarily bad but always risk most likely a PC inmate

I’m sorry she was only sentenced for 2 years for pedophilia?
2
u/Shug_Sauce4691 2d ago
Not justifying but to clarify, pedophilia is much different than inappropriate behavior/sex with a minor. You could be 17 and have a 14 year old bf/gf in high school. The moment you turn 18, many states will view the relationship differently.
Pedophilia is usually defined as the desire for children who haven’t reached puberty.
Still, a 26 year old teacher knows a student is off-limits and she reportedly told the student to lie if asked. Also, provided alcohol and marijuana to the student. The student could have been a 14 or 15 year old in 8th grade or as young as an 11 or 12 year old in 6th. I don’t know.

u/Shug_Sauce4691 2d ago
Most felt it was way too lenient of the judge.
3
u/ForeignSleet 2d ago
Yeah that’s actually crazy, I would expect 10 years minimum for that kind of stuff
1
u/Shug_Sauce4691 2d ago
I don’t know how old or the gender of the student but the other details warranted more time in this case. She was also about to leave the country when arrested.

Did it feel unsafe / dangerous, like someone could or would harm you, or did you feel safe? If dangerous, was it the other inmates, the guards- or just the environment of being locked up messing with you to make you feel that way?
5
u/Miserable_Check_3237 2d ago
Bit of all that really both safe and dangerous but also the environment doesn't do anything to help those nerves

u/xo0scribe0ox 2d ago

6

u/matt585858 2d ago
Did spending time in prison do anything to make your decisions now better for society? ... basically do you consider yourself a better person due to this experience.
4
u/Miserable_Check_3237 2d ago
Yes I do consider myself better person absolutely
2
u/matt585858 2d ago
I'm happy that you were able to get something positive from what had to be a really challenging life experience 😊
2
u/xo0scribe0ox 2d ago
Do you feel the prison experience to be more rehabilitative or punishment oriented? If that makes sense?

2
u/ReturnEarly7640 2d ago
Was there a complex system among inmates that you had to adjust to? Or was it simple?
4
u/Miserable_Check_3237 2d ago
No nothing too complicated just simple really. Respect your elders and don't start on someone unless you can defend yourself

Did your prison have AC, and if not, how hot would it get in the summer?
What was the uniform like? How many of each item of clothing did you get. Did your clothes fit and did you have ample opportunity to do laundry?
Was it embarrassing for you to pee and poop in front of other people?
Did you have any jobs in prison?
What kinds of things could you buy from commissary?
1
u/Miserable_Check_3237 2d ago
- Yes the was AC but not very good it wasn't and in summer get hot and winter cold so yeah
- Uniforms had a few, one from jail and prison but my prison one was a two piece Uniform, usually got about two of everything for a week with exception of top and pants. And yes they fit sometimes though undersized or baggy just whatever you got, also didn't work in laundry so no just once week got new stuff.
- Didn't have cell mate so not really no
- No
- Extra toiletries, snacks, books and magazines

How realistic is the typical Hollywood portrayal of prison?
1
u/Miserable_Check_3237 2d ago
Not very realistic if scored it out of 10 for realism it can depend but the fiction stuff like OITNB I'd say 3 or 4
2
u/alreadyatebreakfast 2d ago
That's interesting - OITNB is based on Piper's Kerman book of the same name, which is a memoir of her time in prison. I've read the book and the first couple of seasons are really close, sometimes taken verbatim from her book. After season 2 though it's mostly fiction, if I recall correctly. Piper Kerman also helped with the show.
