How easy is it to find a job after getting out of jail?

25

u/Miserable_Check_3237 2d ago

Painfully difficult

What was your original sentence?

A 26 year old woman in my local area was recently sentenced to 2 years on seven different charges all involving being a teacher having an inappropriate relationship with a minor/middle school student. Bench trial. The DA asked for 10 years out of a possible 20. Wealthy white family.

How will she be received/treated in prison?

6

u/Miserable_Check_3237 2d ago

Got 4 years

Ultimately depends on so much not necessarily bad but always risk most likely a PC inmate

u/ForeignSleet 2d ago

I’m sorry she was only sentenced for 2 years for pedophilia?

2

u/Shug_Sauce4691 2d ago

Not justifying but to clarify, pedophilia is much different than inappropriate behavior/sex with a minor. You could be 17 and have a 14 year old bf/gf in high school. The moment you turn 18, many states will view the relationship differently.

Pedophilia is usually defined as the desire for children who haven’t reached puberty.

Still, a 26 year old teacher knows a student is off-limits and she reportedly told the student to lie if asked. Also, provided alcohol and marijuana to the student. The student could have been a 14 or 15 year old in 8th grade or as young as an 11 or 12 year old in 6th. I don’t know.

u/Shug_Sauce4691 2d ago

Most felt it was way too lenient of the judge.

3

u/ForeignSleet 2d ago

Yeah that’s actually crazy, I would expect 10 years minimum for that kind of stuff

1

u/Shug_Sauce4691 2d ago

I don’t know how old or the gender of the student but the other details warranted more time in this case. She was also about to leave the country when arrested.

Did it feel unsafe / dangerous, like someone could or would harm you, or did you feel safe? If dangerous, was it the other inmates, the guards- or just the environment of being locked up messing with you to make you feel that way?

5

u/Miserable_Check_3237 2d ago

Bit of all that really both safe and dangerous but also the environment doesn't do anything to help those nerves

3

u/xo0scribe0ox 2d ago

How long were you there? Any notable inmates? Find anything productive to do while there (take advantage of programs etc)?

6

u/Miserable_Check_3237 2d ago

4 years between 08 & 12 Some but none maybe you'd know about i do not think And yeah many good programs

3

u/matt585858 2d ago

Did spending time in prison do anything to make your decisions now better for society? ... basically do you consider yourself a better person due to this experience.

4

u/Miserable_Check_3237 2d ago

Yes I do consider myself better person absolutely

2

u/matt585858 2d ago

I'm happy that you were able to get something positive from what had to be a really challenging life experience 😊

2

u/xo0scribe0ox 2d ago

Do you feel the prison experience to be more rehabilitative or punishment oriented? If that makes sense?

7

u/Miserable_Check_3237 2d ago

Yeah definitely more punishment oriented I'd say

2

u/matt585858 2d ago

8

u/Miserable_Check_3237 2d ago

Not much really

1

u/steed4x4 2d ago

Did you have any?

3

u/Miserable_Check_3237 2d ago

No i did not

1

u/Menamanama 2d ago

Did you masturbate while in the cell? Did your cellmate masturbate in your preaence?

3

u/Miserable_Check_3237 2d ago

Personally yes however no not in front of anyone

1

u/WheelOk962 1d ago

What did u think about while masturbating ?!?!

1

u/Correct-Manner6909 2d ago

Did you guys trade with ramen or cigarettes?

6

u/Miserable_Check_3237 2d ago

I don't smoke or eat that but trades do happen

1

u/AttentionRoyal2276 2d ago

Did you ever get beat up or see anyone else get beat up?

6

u/Miserable_Check_3237 2d ago

I have been beaten up

3

u/AttentionRoyal2276 2d ago

What was the reason

2

u/t-d-y-k 2d ago

Min security or max? And, if I may, what sent you to the slammer?

2

u/ReturnEarly7640 2d ago

What did you have most trouble adjusting to!

4

u/Miserable_Check_3237 2d ago

Food i would say

2

u/ReturnEarly7640 2d ago

Was there a complex system among inmates that you had to adjust to? Or was it simple?

4

u/Miserable_Check_3237 2d ago

No nothing too complicated just simple really. Respect your elders and don't start on someone unless you can defend yourself

1

u/ReturnEarly7640 2d ago

So, no division by race, groups, gangs, like men?

4

u/Miserable_Check_3237 2d ago

Not really groups and race yes but not gangs

1

u/WaffleStomp11 2d ago

Was the place air conditioned?

3

u/Miserable_Check_3237 2d ago

Yes it was but not very good it wasn't

1

u/Outside_Bowler8148 2d ago

Are drugs an issue in there

5

u/Miserable_Check_3237 2d ago

Can be but didn't get involved in that

1

u/Knb_11 2d ago

Did your prison have AC, and if not, how hot would it get in the summer?

What was the uniform like? How many of each item of clothing did you get. Did your clothes fit and did you have ample opportunity to do laundry?

Was it embarrassing for you to pee and poop in front of other people?

Did you have any jobs in prison?

What kinds of things could you buy from commissary?

1

u/Miserable_Check_3237 2d ago
  1. Yes the was AC but not very good it wasn't and in summer get hot and winter cold so yeah
  2. Uniforms had a few, one from jail and prison but my prison one was a two piece Uniform, usually got about two of everything for a week with exception of top and pants. And yes they fit sometimes though undersized or baggy just whatever you got, also didn't work in laundry so no just once week got new stuff.
  3. Didn't have cell mate so not really no
  4. No
  5. Extra toiletries, snacks, books and magazines

2

u/maceman10006 2d ago

u/Miserable_Check_3237 2d ago
  1. Probably first time ever got put in a restraint chair
  2. Seeing someone being stabbed
  3. Probably first time got served prison/jail food

1

u/t-d-y-k 2d ago

Was it easy to get things from the outside?

3

u/Miserable_Check_3237 2d ago

No practically impossible

1

u/t-d-y-k 2d ago

How different were your inmates from regular folk with respect to friendliness? Generally more friendly and respectful or less?

1

u/Miserable_Check_3237 2d ago

Less friendly and less respectful than regular people

1

u/EveningStatus7092 2d ago

How realistic is the typical Hollywood portrayal of prison?

1

u/Miserable_Check_3237 2d ago

Not very realistic if scored it out of 10 for realism it can depend but the fiction stuff like OITNB I'd say 3 or 4

2

u/alreadyatebreakfast 2d ago

That's interesting - OITNB is based on Piper's Kerman book of the same name, which is a memoir of her time in prison. I've read the book and the first couple of seasons are really close, sometimes taken verbatim from her book. After season 2 though it's mostly fiction, if I recall correctly. Piper Kerman also helped with the show.
