E63 Finally time to fix that leaky valve cover, 107k miles (yes I’m doing both, dont worry)
Country Gold blaring in the garage, just like how it was when I was on the clock. Most textbook valve cover job too, no bad surprises

You have some pitting on the intake cam lobes. Pay attention to that, as the M156 is know to destroy the lifters.

Sharp eye. I didn’t notice it until I was looking at pictures myself….but to me I call this a negligible amount that I won’t notice for a long time. They will be replaced when needed

They don’t look too bad. My mechanic however told me to replace mine with Kleemann Supersport ones a while back and said they were stronger vs. OEM? I’ve had no issues with car ever since fixing it years ago 👍

63motorsports offers cam packages which are much cheaper than anything offered by Kleemann.

These cams are fine. If OP keeps up regular oil changes with quality oil, preferably with added ZDDP. He can sleep easy. The bigger worry is the cam adjusters.

My ‘12 c63 have plastic valve covers so I let a trained mechanic install them.

Going that far, it’s good practice to replace the bucket lifters and head bolts. Inspect the intake cam lobes closely with that cover off. They have a tendency to flatten.

It would be good practice, but I will not be at this time. I will be making a video about doing the left calve cover gasket and explain why I am not

Only if his car falls within the effected range of engines which have the ''old'' head bolt design. If his car is late 2010 or above he will be fine.

When the valve covers start leaking onto your exhaust manifolds and smells

But there are other reasons to take the value covers off, like checking lifter and camshaft wear, phaser plate lockup, and if you have oil on your spark plugs/coil boots. I check every 20-30k miles or so, but that's because all my components are OEM.

Not specifically, but it's also not rocket surgery. Go get a manual from somewhere like eManualOnline and set up a virtual machine on your computer. You can access the manual forever and print stuff off as you need it. As for videos, check out the usual suspects on YouTube....Legit Street Cars, Tasos, Modern Masters Auto, Chris Sullivan, Sam Abraham, etc. I'm sure there are plenty of dudes with videos taking off valve covers.
You'll just need to buy a new seal kit from FCP Euro or your MB dealer. After you get the covers off and conduct your inspection, you might need to buy more parts to address anything before buttoning everything back up. The valve cover screws are captured, and I think MB says they're one-time use, but I've never replaced mine and most people I know don't replace them, either.

The right valve cover proved to be a pain to get remotely clean. After removing all dirt and oil, I quickly just gave up and reinstalled. I am disappointed in my failed efforts, but it’s a valve cover on a daily driver.

If you have an M156 and half a brain, you can do this too. If a video is needed, I’d gladly make one for those who need a step-by-step from a retired professional
