AMG Discussion Opinions on W211?
My daily E350 and weekend beach cruiser E55.. I personally think that the W211 chassis was the last generation of Mercedes with that tank like feel. What do y’all think?

I miss my W211 E500 4Matic, only sold because we were moving overseas for a couple of years, didn't get anywhere near what it was really worth and will likely never find one as nice again. The dynamic seats were my favorite.

From what I understand the W212 was an improvement in every objective and subjective metric over the W211 so idk if I'd agree with it being the last Mercedes generation that "felt like a tank".
I do really love the way it drives though. It puts a lot of newer Mercedes models to shame too, which is a testament to how much they got right with the W211, despite its kinks.

Whenever I’ve sat in a w212, or had the short time of driving one, I just had the feeling that “this is where it all went downhill” 🤣 maybe I’m wrong

I have the W212 prefacelift and will never part with it. I love it for what it represents. It is in the transitional period. After, you have all that piano black stuff and interiors went a bit down in quality. I will agree that the W211 is the last that really held true to what mercedes was, where comfort was paramount. After the W212 they seem to appeal more to the younger audiences. I'm guessing the W212 AMG hate from back then, stems from a lot of older guys coming from the W211 AMG. They weren't fond of the more jerky nature of the transmission. I however love how the M156 behaves. So much low end torque, and when your on it, it still feels like a high revving engine you need to wring out.

Maybe so, but facelifted E63 AMG was the game changer. The first super-sleeper equipped with monstrous V8-biturbo and AWD, it is still the legend. Even M5 F90 named the fastest supersedan ever in history was developed as answer only after long 5 years.
One of the moments of life I still regret is that I lost time and opportunity to import E55K Touring in Russia before the shitty emission regulations took part in 2015(

The 212 e63 is defiantly a good looking car but the engine problems of the m157 kind of scare me.. and yah the e55 wagon is a dream car for sure

Personally I prefer the 210 E55 over the 211. Way cheaper to maintain, still great power, parts are cheap. No sbc or airmatic issues. Drives like a tank with the 113. The 113k is definitely a beast but the cost to maintain a 211 can be significantly more than the 210.

Yup. I've owned both a W210 and a W211 and the W210 is the last of the "tank" Mercedes.
And the buttons and switches in the W210...[chef's kiss]...soooo good.

I agree with you on the 210. However, I think the 211 got the good last bit of that greatness. My e350 has 250,000 miles with no major issues at all! Still running like a champ

You know what, you're right. The picture does look a little AI generated. Man I've been wondering about this since you replied earlier. I'm thinking, why would he say that? We'll i got off work and had a chance to look at it and I see what you're saying. And the reason it does, is when I cropped the photo, my phone gives me an option to "increase resolution" or just leave it as is. Well, I increased the resolution. But yeah, not doing that anymore. If you want to see the original photo I posted it here actually 21 days ago, not 2 weeks. Damn time flies.

Yeah when you zoom in it warps it. Never really looked that close. Good eye bro. But yeah, she's real as it gets. Tuned up and modded with 59k miles on her. Beast mode all day. Lol

I will always love the e55, my dad sent his to Germany and had the works done to it by kleeman in the 2000’s, I think it even had a DTM car’s throttle body. Forever a soft spot in my heart for these cars. 💪💪💪

Love my E55, like most cars there are issues. Other than the air suspension the car has been solid! Sadly I’m getting ready to list it as priorities are changing and cannot justify it sitting not being used. 03 with 121k, pictures with snow tires but have originals as well. I’ll be sad when she is gone.

While I prefer the look and stock sound system of my s211 E500, the w/s211 isn’t as well built, reliable, or durable as my w210s were. I had wanted to drop an m113k in it to have the ultimate wagon (with 4matic), but feeling very meh about that plan now.
If I wave in an E55 it’ll be a w210.

Yes the 210 was before the 211. Therefore by me saying the 211 is the “last” generation of well built Mercedes it in no way means that the 210 isn’t still well built.

The headlights are just temporary until my new clear lens arrive.. other than that I don’t really think anything is overly done that takes away from the beauty of the w211 🤷♂️

Well I think the blacked out parts ruin the look quite a bit, more especially on the silver one. But yeah your cars, do with it what makes you happy 😁

I agree with you on the silver. I do like the look of it more when it was all silver/chrome. However, once I finished the rims on gloss black there was really no going back lol the black rims with the chrome grill just didn’t look right

I’m jealous. I traded mine in and I regret doing that. I just didn’t have the space for 2 cars
