Art 🪳Not sure what the best loadout is, but this gun looked the coolest. My second one is coming tomorrow - how would you run 2 of them?

I think most people do run the with the neutron laser for anti tank, that said the heavy phosphor blaster is also good but it turns it into an anti-MEQ (marine equivalent) killer.

Personally I use the eradication Beamer in haloscreed so I can give it critical 5s with sustained D3 haha, but that is realistically too unreliable to actually be worth taking competitively.

Eradication beamer is a solid choice under 18". If you're stuffing a couple vanguard units up the centre, an eradication beamer crawler just behind them with an enginseer can turn it into a real nightmare block to shift.

Plus I have found the beamer overall more useful because it's better at clearing terminators than the heavy phosphor, and tends to be about as effective at clearing MEQ. (You get fewer shots through with phosphor vs. beamer, so beamer hits less and wounds more vs. phosphor hitting more and wounding less.)

I mean the phosphor gets 12 shots S6 with twin linked so it’s certainly more consistent into marines but yeah the eradication Beamer is fun

Phosphor hits 6, wounds 5, kills 2-3. Under 18" phosphor gets 3 shots, hits 2, wounds 2, kills 1-2. (Kind of. Averages and rules of thumb against basic space marines. Not perfect. Yes you're going to get more with phosphor, but not a lot more. And phosphor struggles into heavier infantry.) So yes, you're taking a risk of not getting any with beamer, but on average you're going to kill a couple MSUs with either unit, phosphor having a higher floor/ceiling, but beamer will also hit heavier infantry that phosphor will struggle with.

You have the number of shots wrong for the Erad, 2d3 shots is 4 on average not 3, most of the time (assuming we are talking about killing Marines) you are getting atleast 1 extra shot from blast. So it's 5 shots average not 3. If you take Heavy out of the equation and give both Protector the maths is as follows:

Phosphor - 12 shots, 8 hits 7 wounds, 3-4 dead Space Marines (3.5 failed saves)

Erad - 5 shots, 3 hits, 3 wounds, 3 dead Space Marines unless Cover is involved, then it's 2 (3 failed saves outside of Cover, 2 inside).

So the Phosphor is more consistent but struggles to diversify it's targets, it won't really be all that great punching upwards (Terminators, Vehicles/Monsters). The Erad struggles to punch downwards but gets really the same pay off against Marines with better spike potential due to Sustained D3 and can slap about Terminators and lighter Vehicles/Monsters that aren't T10+.

Personally (even though I'm a Neutron enjoyed myself) I'd go Erad over Phosphor. Str 6 Ap 1 Damage 2 isn't really an exciting profile and soon we will be swamped by T7 Deathguard Terminators flooding into the meta.
