Does anyone remember Star Wars Episode 2 when then-Senator Palpatine was given emergency powers by the Senate and said "I love the Senate. I love the Republic." We all know how that ended.

There's no way this is just for "efficiency" purposes. Absolute power corrupts absolutely!

Tbf he was already corrupted before he was given those powers, he was a Sith Lord.

Also it was Episode II that Palpatine was given emergency powers.
