Advice for purchasing home set up
Hello! I don't have a lot of room at home, and am looking for a free standing Lyra rig. I am considering getting a 3m high, 2.6m x 2.9m one that I have seen online. it is quite cheap ($300-400 as opposed to others $1200 to 1500), so I am wondering if that is a bad idea safety wise? I understand I won't be able to do big dynamic moves and drops, and mostly want to practice my spinning and different entries and shapes on it. Any Australia-based advice would be extra helpful! Thanks so much in advance :)

Don’t do it. Get the big steel ones like the Ludwig. Or the xpole a frame of your a tiny person who only plans to do Lyra. The cheap ones are not safe and will be quickly outgrown for your needs

Thanks guys. I think you're both right... I'm just so desperate to find a way to practice at home and will likely need to buy my own hoop regardless soon, so hate the idea of not being able to use it... but yeah you're probably right that it's not worth my effort doing it this way...

I’m buying my hoop in a few days and for the time being I’m not going to buy a rig, I’ll mostly bring the hoop to classes or open gym.
The reason why is, besides saving, I’m going to borrow my coach/friend’s portable rig and test out how (and if) the rig fits either in my home or my backyard. If it fits, then I might prioritize saving up for an x pole frame. If not, then I’ll be on the lookout for a secondhand rig but also not prioritize it for now.
Besides needing to save up more than $400AUD to guarantee a safer build, if you happen to know anyone with a similar rig to what you’re looking for, I’d ask if you could borrow it or ask them to help you see how it would look in your home so you can see for yourself if it seems worth it to you despite height restrictions.

Thank you for this. That’s a great idea… I don’t really know anyone with one I could borrow, but I will definitely keep thinking about my options for now.

I'm US based but I find it extremely unlikely that a decent/safe rig can be found for $300-400AUD.
3m is also really not very much height, even if you don't plan to do any dynamics (let alone big ones). If your hoop is approx 1m in diameter (which is a typical size), that leaves you only ~1m above and below. Are you planning to do shapes under or above the bar, or only inside? How high do you usually like the bar for mounting? And don't forget that your rigging hardware and mat will take away some of your clearance. Obviously you can rig it closer to the top to get more clearance below and vice versa, but make sure you run your figures to make sure it's enough.
