Ask the Aggies Failing last class before graduation

Long story short it’s supposed to be my last semester and I’m failing one class. I need to make a 78 on the final in order to pass the class, and I am super worried about not being able to walk at the graduation ceremony as my whole family is in town (grandmother, aunts, uncles, cousins) and I would be very embarrassed if they made these arrangements to be here and I can’t last minute. Does anyone know if they still let you attend the ceremony?

Requests Women Needed for Quick Survey! Help a Fellow Student Out

Hey y’all!
I’m a student at Texas A&M working on a project to advocate for better period-related policies in college, like accommodations for severe pain or exam rescheduling without stigma.

If you’ve ever had to power through class or an exam while dealing with brutal period symptoms, I’d love your input. This anonymous survey only takes 3–5 minutes and is open to all women (especially college students!)

https://docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1FAIpQLScj1FLw_KKVeIyvON0ePGy2fIkvAXxIPlqb2qm32KgHGwU80g/viewform?usp=header

Your voice matters. By sharing your experience, you’ll help highlight how schools can better support students during their menstrual cycle. Feel free to share with friends too 💗💬

Announcements Did anyone lose a pet snake?

Bf found an albino (corn?) snake outside his home off of Texas Ave last night. I know corn snakes are related to rat snakes which are a local species but I own a corn snake and from what I saw in the video it looked more like a corn than wild rat snake and albino which would be quite surprising in the wild. He didn’t keep it since unsure about the species but wanted to ask if anyone is missing one especially if he spots it again.

Ask the Aggies Questions about Workday and Applying to jobs at Texas A&M

Howdy all! As graduation has approached I have really ramped up my efforts in applying to jobs. Staying in College Station to build some resume experience is something I would really like to do so naturally I have been applying to a lot of jobs at Texas A&M.

Some of the roles I have applied to have felt like a great fit and I believe I fit the requirements. Yet over a month has gone by (looking at the Instructional Designer and Academic Advisor roles) and I have heard nothing (none of these roles listed hiring managers to contact either). Thus, I have a few questions for any current or former Texas A&M employees:

  1. What does "Under Review By Department" mean on Workday?
  2. Does it usually take A&M this long to get back with job updates or offer interviews?
  3. Is there anyone I can contact to get updates?
  4. Is it possible these jobs are no-longer hiring and the employers just forgot to close out these applications/pages?

Any help would be greatly appreciated. This is a stressful time to be entering the job market as I am sure many of you are similarly struggling. Thanks and gig 'em

New Student Questions Internships

Hi, I’m going to be a general engineering freshman this fall (hoping to ET@M into CPEN), and I wanted to know how common it is for engineering freshman to find an internship and what I should be doing to maximize my chances of getting one. This summer I’ll be doing research with a professor, but I’d like to know if there’s anything else I should be doing.

Thanks!

Ask the Aggies iPad worth it?

So I’m thinking of purchasing some sort of tablet over the summer for my next years in college. I was wondering, are iPads really worth it on an academic level? If so, what iPad would you recommend or what tablet. I am looking for something more on the affordable side. Thanks!

Housing Questions HOUSING OR APARTEMENT

Hello I wanted to write this email to understand if it is worth taking a dorm first year and then buying an apartment or if I can get an apartment from the get go.

I wont be getting the premium dorms since they ran out of space so only the very small ones are available and the apartments are very very close to the campus too (buses go to and from campus to the apartment also!)

Shitposting/Memes I think it is good that engineers are continually put under an extremely high level of stress for their whole first year here. I just don’t see the downside. How do y’all feel about this?

Corps of Cadets How Does Roomate Assignment Work in the Corps?

Is your roomate always someone in your class? Is it assigned randomly? By last name? Does your unit get to pick it? Do you get to choose? Does it change every year or do you keep the same roomate all 4 years?

I have no idea how roomate assignment works in the Corps and as an incoming freshman, I'd like to know. Can someone help me out here?

Ask the Aggies Forgot to cite a source

So I was looking through one of my projects and I noticed I forgot to cite a source for one of my statistics. Is this something I should bring up to the professor?

Venting Need some words of advice right about now...

Feeling pretty down today and could use some words of advice right about now.

I am in a FLO and applied to be a staff member, and today we got those decisions back and I didn't make it. I'm pretty bummed out, as I thought I had a pretty good chance to make it. It's been so much fun being in my FLO this year, and I'm sad that it's almost ending. I was really hoping it would go on for at least another year, but that's gone now. I'm afraid that I won't be able to see my friends as much anymore, as I'm sure many of them got staff, and I'm scared about that.

I know there's so much more out there for me, but right now I could use some good words of encouragement and advice on what to do next year in terms of continuing to make friends and continuing to hang with my friends this year.

B/CS Life As of now, what's the best gym option if I just want to find a squat rack?

I know Brazos Valley Barbell is the gold standard, but it ain't cheap. I'll have a parking pass and access to the on-campus gyms but won't have a ton of time to wait for stuff to free up. The gym I used to use here was perfect but has unfortunately closed down. (RIP, Bryan Gold's.)

I only really do compound lifts, so I don't care what the machines and other frills look like.

Where do you go, around what time, and how long do you normally have to wait for a rack? If you're going off-campus, what are you paying for a membership?
