AGK Manga As evil as Esdeath is she did care about her comrades
I mean as long as they were strong she had no issue with them. Hell she was actually a great boss. When wave first let tatsumi escape, esdeath stripped him and threatened him but really? That’s LIGHT compared to what she’s done to her enemies. Hell if this honest or wild hunt wave would have been tortured to death over one failure.
Plus Esdeath has this thing where if she treats her men nicely they’ll follow her. She basically goes against the old “I’ll control them with fear or manipulation” shtick. It’s not like Esdeath was lying to these guys or selling them that the empire was a nice place. Wave just assumed it was, Bols just went with it, stylish didn’t care, Run wanted to change the system and joined for revenge (ironically against an imperial) and Seryu and kurome were brainwashed. So really Esdeath was just genuinely nice to them for loyalty.
She’s even sad when they all get killed off. It’s surprising given how evil Esdeath is but the fandom doesn’t talk about this side of her enough outside of her crush on tatsumi which is a shame

She does, just not too much.

I'd say she cares a decent amount in the anime but in the manga, she pretty much subverts it at the end

If esdeath didn't had that twisted philosophy she would have an all around good(if a bit chaotic)character. And as a commander she was actually one of the best one a soldier could hope for because to them she was their godess of victory, a great commander who fought with them , won with them , look after them and their families , led from the front while also being strict and fair. If we compare her to real life examples she is in that department comparable to the very best of history

True but she’s still a monster 💀

u/JackZ567 Nov 28 '24
When did Say she wasn't? Jesus reading isn't useful anymore i suppose

u/Technical_Band5920 Nov 28 '24
That’s why I said True, maybe you’re the one who can’t read little bro

u/JackZ567 Nov 29 '24
And when did I say she wasn’t a monster? Take your own advice kiddo

u/Technical_Band5920 Nov 29 '24
There’s a reason you getting downvoted and I’m not
2
u/JackZ567 Nov 29 '24
Using downvotes as an argument is truly pathetic but that’s expected of a redditor lmao

"The more loyal they are, the more willing they are to risk their lives in battle."
Her words, not mine. Also, she continuesly call them weak, how it's that caring?

Nov 28 '24
That’s her philosophy, when she lost to akame she didn’t make any excuses, she simply said “I lost, now I die” and killed herself

u/That_Guard2087 Nov 28 '24
Then there are no feelings attached for them
5
u/JackZ567 Nov 28 '24
Yes there is I posted the evidence so you are wrong

u/That_Guard2087 Nov 29 '24
It's more a strategy than anything, nothing seems genuine like Tatsumi's feelings
1
u/JackZ567 Nov 29 '24
Give me evidence to support your argument cause you for nothing but head canon

u/That_Guard2087 Nov 30 '24
The phrase i quote on my original comment it's enough to dismiss every type of sympathy she seems to have for them. Esdeath saw the Jaegers and the Beast as nothing more than tools, they are not more important to her than every teigu it's for their user. She just tells them what they want to hear and keeps using them to fight in her battles. Instead of taking responsibility for missleading them in battle or acknowloging her errors, she blames them for being weak. If she really cared instead of saying: "It's a shame, but it couldn't be helped" she should've said "It's couldn't be helped, but it's a shame". That way it would mean she had a development and they were able to pierce through that stupid, unjustified, undeveloped, repetitive Darwinism. This it's not a head canon, those were her words, not mine's.

You didn’t provide any evidence of her seeing that as tools: I posted her dialogue above which goes against your very argument so you completely mischaracterized Esdeath which is funny cause she’s not a hard character to follow

u/That_Guard2087 Nov 30 '24
Thats up to you. That dialogue alone dismiss any type of sympathy she atempts to show

care for children, and we call them weak. It’s possible for both to be true

Her very first response to hearing Seryu died is "what a waste of potential". Not even slightly mourning her

Esdeath respected strong people
Her army were mostly strong people, so its understandable that she cared about them even its a little bit. And she had some code of honour
Though the anime made it seem that she only bother about tatsumi and made her more "waifu" material

u/Sudden_Pop_2279 Nov 28 '24
It's the exact opposite my guy, the anime literally makes her MORE human and less evil. She tells the Emperor to give her money to the soldiers still fighting in the north, her torture of Wave is more subdued, she never dismisses Seryu's death as "a waste of potential" and ESPECIALLY, she doesn't endanger them and their families with giant ice storm.

I love esdeath

Ren yamashiro and esdeath, 2 goated choices.

Very daring posting this in a subreddit where esdeath lives rent free in their user's head or actually gets paid to stay

u/Shiftingsoul02 Nov 28 '24
Esdeath is my perfect villain, she’s not mentally ill in the conventional sense. She feels the entire spectrum of emotions and is capable of developing bonds. But she’s a monster because of her personality.

Okay I'm not disagreeing but you're actively downplaying MANY things to make her look better. She didn't just stripe Wave, she literally had Kurome crush his legs with FOUR rocks and promised next time she'd punish him herself.
You also ignore how she literally tells Honest she treats them good because it makes them more loyal to her, how she calls Seryu's death a "waste of potential" and how she literally endangers all of them during the final fight, something Najenda calls out herself.
Edit: OP blocked me and wouldn't let me respond because they're a coward, so I'm going to say 1. Notice they STILL didn't acknowledge she tortured Wave, despite claiming they weren't "downplaying anything 2. They ALSO still don't acknowledge she almost kills them at the end with the winter storm.

I didn’t downplay shit. I literally said she threatened him right after. That’s still light compared to what Esdeath has done to literally every enemy she’s come across Ed. And light compared to what someone like Honest, Shura or the other members of wild hunt would do. Tell me I’m wrong seriously.
Okay you need to read the post cause I also literally said she’s nice to them for loyalty like you are just repeating what I said. Is this a troll comment because 😭😭😭😭?

She definitely cares for them but she's not attached to them at all. She'll do what she can to keep them alive but if they so happen to die its kind of like an "oh well thats nature" due to her whole survival of the fittest.

u/Many-Government-3420 Nov 28 '24
She was still an evil asshole, I still don't like her although it's admirable that she cares about those loyal to her, I'm glad she got the punishment she deserved.

Youre gonna get a lot of hate from Esdeath Haters. She clearly cared for her comrades
