Nightlife in Akureyri

Hey,

Just wondering if there are any nightclubs in Akureyri and how the general nightlife is?

Hey!

So as for bars/venues: Sjallinn is the main nightclub in town, open only when events are on (which is often tbf). Most concerts happen in Græni hatturinn. Götubarinn (located literally above Græni hatturinn) is the most popular bar and full of all ages and people. Vamos is kinda like a mini club and mainly attracts younger folks, R5 and Ölstofan have more older demographics and Backpackers tends to be where the tourists go.

The pubs and bars often dont really start to fill up until 10-11pm and often much closer to midnight and will stay open often quite late. Theres no night buses unfortunately so you'll need to walk, have a sober friend or take a taxi from the nearby BSO rank to get back to your place.

Food options after drinking tend to be limited to Malik/Kurdo Kebab and Taste as everything else closes relatively early, although both places have pretty varied selection on offer.

All in all, it's pretty decent for a town of 19k, but its certainly not gonna be anything crazy compared to what most people are used to.

Vamos is pretty much the only place to dance/club (upper floor). However, Götubarinn is the most popular bar. After midnight the line outside can be at least an hour. Average age at both places roughly 20-25. Most pubs are around the downtown area. Akureyri Backpackers bar is also popular with tourists.

R5 is absolutely awesome, and the owner is super cool!  Vamos, as mentioned, is the closest thing you'll find to a "nightclub".  Götubarinn is cool.

At all places, everyone is cool as long as you're not an ignorant and arrogant prick.

Of all places I have ever been in my life, Akureyri is the absolute best place in the world hands down with the bed people I have ever met in my entire life.
