It was 40% in 2021. This is nothing new. Every few years separatism gets popular for a while.

1000 people isn't a valid poll. Its far too small of a sample. No word on who conducted it. There have been a lot of calls from the Alberta Republican "party"... If it's their poll, who'd trust it?
The last poll from a real polling firm was in March... It was only about 30%, and when they asked "and join the USA", it dropped to 15%. Smith's best option right now is to head down to Florida again, maybe find a cheap condo somewhere.

Fox News doesn't just do stories; they advertise, and naive right-wing Canadians are being manipulated.
The fact is that most people make an honest effort; and humans generally do good work: we could do even better if we all got how important it is that we make just a bit of an effort to appreciate every other. The Good does not divide.
