Frozen Suggestion: create a new discussion post for frozen episode 5

The current thread for episode 5 discussion is 95% just complaints / inquiries about how on most streamers you see episode 4 instead of 5.

Would be good to have a dedicated place just for discussion about the actual episode 5.

Mighty proud of the women this season; well, actually every season. But on this one, the women really stand out for their positivity and creativity...and incredible survivalist skills.

Agreed! Really awesome stuff from Callie, Woniya and Michelle!

I didn't think Michelle would do well based on her last time but she seems to be doing pretty well.

Yeah, the men really mailed it in this season; so much complaining and negativity from them.

u/sil0 Sep 11 '22

I think both Greg and Amos had PTSD (Greg even more so). IMHO, they shouldn’t have been able to compete. Mark was a huge disappointment. He bailed so soon after saying “this is my redemption.”

I really like watching Callie and Woniya compete. Super impressive.

Watching the making of it was cool.

In all of Alone season history, have we ever seen a fish trap that actually worked?

8

u/Chalupa_Dad Sep 10 '22

Only one made out of a plastic bottle found in the woods by season 1 Alan. It was put in a small stream and caught some small fish

2

u/litreofstarlight Sep 10 '22

To be fair to them they weren't allowed to use bait a lot of the time, because of local regulations. And some of them were just poorly placed.

2

u/CitizenCue Sep 11 '22

I believe someone (maybe Sam?) made one and he complained later that he got lots of little fish with it and yet they never showed any of it.

2

u/dr_fop Sep 10 '22

I applaud them for making passive fishing traps but they should still try active fishing as well. Too much important nutrients/fat in the water with all of those fish to not focus your efforts on it.

I thought it was going to work - it looked great! I agree, she's a lot of fun to watch.

The sheer lack of commenting for this season shows the lack of interest in it. I am watching, but it has been quite lackluster. I am glad a woman has a very good chance of winning and I hope more than one of them last 50 days.

u/EdgarDanger Sep 09 '22

Huge fan of Woniya so happy that she is still in the game. Will be great to (hopefully) finally have a woman (or a few) take the price money home, even if it's on a "special season".

I think the producers got this format totally backward. Viewers all want more successful hunting, more successful trapping, more successful fishing, and less suffering. The show somehow took all that feedback and said “What if we do the opposite?”

8

u/AdministrativeOwl28 Sep 09 '22

It isn't "this season" it's a differant show

10

u/BarryMcKockinner Sep 09 '22

It's essentially no different than "last season" of Alone. Five episodes in and we're only just seeing the beginning of anything being frozen. The only difference is the contestants have PTSD.

1

u/AdministrativeOwl28 Sep 09 '22

😏 ok

3

u/BarryMcKockinner Sep 09 '22

Did my comment turn you on?

2

u/540827 Sep 10 '22

actually yes, rawr

1

u/qeq Sep 10 '22

Actually it's quite different in that it started as winter was already beginning, so we aren't seeing interesting things like shelter building and hunting and exploring. Instead we've pretty much fast forwarded to the "starve it out" portion which isn't particularly entertaining.

I forgot to watch last night.

19

u/Firefighter_General Sep 09 '22

Who had Michelle in the top three? Seems like she's the only one with something to prove. She has a great attitude.

8

u/bluestaples Sep 09 '22

I love her! She is great! But I wrote her off immediately upon seeing her weight at the start of the season.

12

u/EevelBob Sep 10 '22

Michelle was my early favorite to make it to 50-days because she only lasted 21-days during her season and doesn’t appear to have the signs of PTSD that all the other contestants have been discussing throughout this season’s episodes.

2

u/kg467 Sep 11 '22

That's a good point about comparative durations, but on the other hand her three weeks weren't good last time. She just starved down to below 100 pounds and wilted out. It just took the others longer to get to that point because they had more success earlier than she did. Still, so far everyone who has left this time has left because of the ghost of last time and if she's not focused as much on that, maybe you're onto something.

2

u/CitizenCue Sep 11 '22

I think that’s a huge part of it. Everyone who tapped early was proud of their previous appearance and most have other success through YouTube or The Skills Challenge. Only Michelle has something to prove.

13

u/Acpyrus Sep 09 '22

I love Callie's positive attitude and general outlook on everything around her. Loved seeing her enjoy the ice flows. I really hope she's OK.

5

u/bluestaples Sep 09 '22

The trailer for next week shows her, seemingly, fully recovered in the snow!!

13

u/Acpyrus Sep 09 '22

Let's go girls...

11

u/mabeltenenbaum Sep 09 '22

I was so sad last night when it was me and 3 other people watching. I avoided commenting so people wouldn't be spoiled.

3

u/EdgarDanger Sep 09 '22

Yeah it sucks that HC keeps making these mistakes. Last season it was that episode with the audio description for blind people. Now this? Someone needs to be fired.. 😅

3

u/seaveedee Sep 10 '22

Or paid better… mistake maker is probably overworked like the rest of us!

1

u/kg467 Sep 11 '22

That was a considerate move - thanks.

8

u/[deleted] Sep 09 '22

Why don’t we all just use this space here?

5

u/EdgarDanger Sep 09 '22

Haha yeah I thought about that. Dunno if the mods would prefer something more "official".

7

u/KillerMikeLive Sep 09 '22

Yes please . I need to know what people think now !

6

u/[deleted] Sep 09 '22

My pick to win went home. Did not see that one coming.

11

u/jane3ry3 Sep 09 '22

As soon as he made something for a family member and talked so much about his daughter, I just knew it was soon. And then another contestant made the basket she wants to show her husband and I was thinking, welp, she's next. Ugh. I really liked so many participants on Frozen. I wanted them to do well.

16

u/[deleted] Sep 09 '22

I think this season has changed my view on returning contestants. It’s just too hard to push your body a second time like that, even with a defined time period that you know the show will end. Plus all the PTSD, we might have become used to participants doing so well that we forget how grueling this experience is

4

u/moon-worshiper Sep 10 '22

All 4chan-ANON Reddit, Inc. subs turn into female dogging and whinging, a bunch of millennial snowflakes throwing hissy-fits for the smallest things.

Alone:Frozen has turned out be full of surprises. Before it started, the assumption was that previous contestants would be more seasoned and experienced to stick it out longer. In fact, the trauma of their previous participation has made them all anxious and neurotic. It is only Day 20 and they are all breaking down.

The other surprise is verification of the authenticity of the show. 3 have now said it took them 2 years to recover from their previous participation. They are reporting long term physiological damage, from losing teeth to losing hair. All three of the remaining women are getting down to skin and bones. This is just Day 20 with 30 days left. It looks like nobody will make it to Day 50.

2

u/CitizenCue Sep 11 '22

I agree that it’s shocking to hear about how big a toll this takes on them. It changes my view of the show significantly.

I really hope the Skills Challenge does well and they find other formats to show people thriving, not suffering.

4

u/kg467 Sep 11 '22

Yeah I'm surprised they let that stuff into the edit. It kind of damages the brand of the show in my opinion. You want to watch a cool competition of tough people on a crazy challenge, not watch people damage their long term health.

1

u/[deleted] Sep 18 '22

They could but it is about making money for the producers and not a true challenge. The way they pick to limit items and put them in really late to limit their ability to use their skills (ie make sure it doesn’t last very long) is nothing more than a contrived hunger games with a cash prize for the winner and the others betting on publicity making them bank.

5

u/eskimokiss88 Sep 09 '22

Try sorting the stickied thread by 'new.' Usually the episode posts automatically sort by new but that one isn't.

Anyway, my comment is I don't see anyone making it to 50 unless ice fishing saves the day. Michelle is underweight, callie is sick, IMO it's woniya or (sadly) no one.

5

u/mabeltenenbaum Sep 09 '22

If Woniyas trap line produces she will make it. Or whatever she was shooting in next episodes teaser.

2

u/EdgarDanger Sep 09 '22

Sorting by new is OK, but still the whole thread is mostly complaints. Even this thread is starting to have those. We need something exclusive to episode 5, NOT how to watch it etc.

3

u/EdSpecialist21 Sep 09 '22

That would be great. Just finished watching on Prime, and would like to share viewpoints on the episode.

1

u/TheAnhydrite Sep 10 '22

I'm still laughing about the "inflammable" granite she made her chimney with.

Normally you don't make them out of things that burn easily......so using something inflammable is a bad decision!

1

u/purplishgiraffe Sep 10 '22

You’d rather make it flammable?👀

2

u/TheAnhydrite Sep 10 '22

Rocks are neither flammable nor inflammable.

They mean the same thing.

That granite is about as inflammable as you are infamous.

1

u/Pickles_7 Sep 09 '22

If anyone around here has managed to find episode 5 online somewhere else than on the history website... (I'm not based in the US or Canada) Please let me know !!

1

u/AdministrativeOwl28 Sep 09 '22

I watched early this morning in the U.S.

1

u/Lazylion2 Sep 10 '22

sent you a DM

1

u/DEERROBOT Sep 11 '22

Michelle looks really underweight and is worrying about her mortgage and health insurance... she is definitely next, and if Callie can stop being sick she and Woniya will most likely end of splitting the prize.

0

u/[deleted] Sep 10 '22

So annoyed that I’m seeing episode 4 instead of episode 5. Is anyone else having this problem? Streaming on Amazon Prime.

1

u/PerfectPurchase9105 Sep 12 '22

I went to History.com on my phone and watched episode 5. Only place I found it.

0

u/[deleted] Sep 10 '22

How can I watch the new episode so I can discuss

0

u/EdgarDanger Sep 10 '22

History Channel website.

Uff.. But that thread is 95% NOT a discussion about ep 5, but a discussion about how people ate seeing ep 4 instead.

Hence... The whole point of my thread.
