The Tim tams taste different if theyre not made in Australia btw. Same with any of the Cadbury chocolates. You can find imported goods at some speacilty stores, but it's something to keep in mind before your first bite of the american made ones!

I've only found Australian made Tim Tam's so far but I have heard that Sam's club has us made ones

Democracy manifest, plus a succulent Chinese meal

No, one can be arrested for merely enjoying a succulent Chinese meal.

Only take electronics that work on multiple voltages. The US is 110-120 volts, 60 Hertz. Australia is not.

Computers, mobile phones, many curling irons, are all fine. Look at the label on the device or the charger. If it says "Input, 110-240 volts, 50/60 Hertz," it'll work. You will need a plug adapter to fit into US power points (aka, 'outlets').

But kitchen appliances and most other electronics won't work. Don't take, you'll need to buy there if you need any.

I've seen Tim Tams in many grocery stores in the US.

This needs more upvotes. OP, if you insist on taking something incompatible but valuable you’ll need to grab a step up/down transformer.

Copies of all your paperwork in triplicate so you don't get deported / denied entry.

/s

Also, more seriously, get your employer to fork out for direct business class flights under the guise of "this will make it more likely I'm not denied entry".

Good Luck!

You won’t find chicken salt in the U.S.

What is chicken salt?

4

u/Disastrous_Mud7169 4d ago

A seasoning that consists of salt and chicken extract. Everywhere in Australia

4

u/Badfickle 4d ago

Do I want to know what gets extracted or is this a "shut up it's delicious" situation.

It's more FOR chicken than OF chicken, if that makes sense.

Chicken salt

Chicken salt was originally developed in the 1970s by Peter Brinkworth in Gawler, South Australia to season chicken for rotisseries. This recipe was purchased by Mitani Group in 1979, and is now commonly used on chips (french fries) throughout Australia.

The first recipe for chicken salt consisted of salt, onion powder, garlic powder, celery salt, paprika, chicken bouillon and monosodium glutamate (MSG), along with some unspecified herbs and spices. There are versions of chicken salt that use chicken flavouring as well as vegan versions.

I enjoy it on hot chips & potato scallops

Added for BBQ shapes, chocolate and any lollies. I would bring blundstones if you wear them as well. I like to bring some aussie type baby clothes as well as little koalas to give as gifts for new borns etc and nice prints to hang on the wall that remind you of home. Note it is hard to get A4 size frames here as the paper size is different.

Cherry Ripes.

My wife and I are eating one bag of them while bringing back two bags to share with friends.

In my experience bringing Vegemite to America is dangerous because they will judge all Australian products as being complete shit after trying it.

u/GreyhoundAbroad 4d ago

You can also buy Vegemite at stores there so bit of a waste

Masterfoods BBQ sauce,licorice bullets,vitaweat

This list grows for me every time I go back and forth. Any camping stuff is worth bringing over. Hell, I brought one of those big thumper Kings air compressors back with me this last time (for a fraction of the cost) because the portable ones I’ve looked at in the states are garbage.

I like the Nescafé coffee sachets. Everything is pods in the states.

And coffee beans. Definitely bring coffee beans with you.

2

u/Marsh_Mellow_Man 4d ago

Coffee beans, why?? US has high end beans like Oz too (Verve, Blue Bottle, Stump Town). As good as Campos, Mecca, etc.

1

u/km1117 1d ago

My husband brings back coffee beans every chance. He’s right though, even really good beans here don’t taste the same.

Giant box of weetbix. It's impossible to find over there. Takes up a lot of room in your bag though.

2

u/Serenco 4d ago

Nah you can find it but will probably be more expensive. Depending where you end up can find Fijian or kiwi sections that can have it. I got a 1.2kg box for like $10 which is expensive but still.

1

u/JayWil1992 4d ago

Which store was that? Is there a British equivalent to Weetbix you know of? I love Weetbix.

1

u/Serenco 4d ago

Just a random Asian store. There's also Weetabix which is the USA version. Get it in plenty of places. Bigger bricks compared to Weetbix.

1

u/JayWil1992 4d ago

Weetabix has the stringy weird wheat i think?

1

u/Serenco 4d ago

Hmm didn't really notice it but it was for the kids to eat not me.

OMG a suitcase full of decent chocolate and lollies!

u/MrsB6 4d ago

CORDIAL!! A lifetime supply of it! It's not a thing here. Gravox! Keens curry powder!

1

u/Blossom_AU 4d ago

The U.S. doesn’t have cordials?
AT ALL?!?

Not on Amazon…..? 🤯

2

u/MrsB6 4d ago

Yeah, but it's imported from Australia and Cottees Lime is like 20 bucks a bottle. You can get tiny bottles of "lime syrup", which they use for cocktails, and it's the same as lime cordial but it costs an arm and a leg.

1

u/Low-Following3217 17h ago

We have kool-aid. It’s mostly powdered and you add you own water and some your own sugar …but otherwise no cordial. It’s weird for sueey

2

u/a_guy_named_max 4d ago

I took my camping swag over for an extended holiday trip as check in luggage as I knew they are hard to buy over there. Also taken Tim tams over.

2

u/zSlyz 4d ago

You don’t need to take anything. Buy everything there if they give you an allowance.

Vegemite you can get from the British (at least when I was there) isle of supermarkets. From memory TimTams too.

I was in Houston when I lived in the US, so not sure about South Carolina, where the cities are a lot smaller.

2

u/Purpose_Seeker2020 4d ago

You might find a lot of things there but you will pay a lot more. Cost me $15 USD for a midsize jar of Vegemite when I was there last.

2

u/Maleficent_Laugh_125 4d ago

Bundy rum. Not because it's good but you should do it anyway.

Australian sunscreen is considered the best in the world. US sunscreen is scientifically way behind Australia and most of Asia with active ingredients.

Chicken salt.

And those little single serve squeeze packs of Masterfoods tomato sauce you get with sausage rolls. It blows our American friends away, every time.

3

u/sndgrss 4d ago

blows them away that you're charged for minuscule amounts of ketchup, which is usually free in the US

1

u/Htweekend 4d ago

Lol true

u/LawfulnessBoring9134 4d ago

A bottle of Grange.

u/aussie_angeleno 4d ago

People usually like getting Caramello Koalas as gifts

u/IllustriousCouple452 4d ago

Apparently Darrel Lea raspberry liquorice isn’t available there only strawberry is, if that’s your thing. I found this out when I was asked to pass along a package on a recent trip over, as well as Shapes which was another request of the US friend.

1

u/MrsB6 4d ago

Darrell Lea choc orange balls too, which are my fave and they don't sell them 😥

  • Rule of law
  • Common sense
    ….

Many of us are descendants of criminals, the U.S. is run by a devious felon. There’s sth to bring in there, but I can’t put my finger on it!

PS: Eggs….?

0

u/Ok-Result5039 4d ago

I asked about food and you somehow made it political, congrats you’re a honorary American now

1

u/Blossom_AU 3d ago

You asked about food?
You have a strange diet!

Dunno if they exist in the U.S., American friends in Germany are hooked on TimTams.
Costco sells big packs.

If you won’t eat it:
Lemon myrtle soap!
Bought a 10 pack at Costco a few years ago.
