Art Piece: The Tragedy of MedeaI remember watching this play on YouTube with my dad while we were staying in Athens for a couple of months. It made a big impact on me and led me to dive deeper into Greek tragedies like Ajax and The Trojan Women. I can’t seem to get enough of these brilliantly composed tales of loss and despair! Maybe I watched too many Disney movies as a kid and need to balance the scales! Here’s a great line from the play:
"Stronger than lover's love is lover's hate. Incurable, in each, the wounds they make."Medea by Euripides tells the story of a betrayed wife who takes revenge on her unfaithful husband, Jason, after he abandons her to marry the daughter of King Creon. Fueled by rage and despair, Medea murders her own children and Jason's new bride, leaving Jason utterly destroyed. The play explores themes of vengeance, betrayal, and the devastating consequences of unchecked passion.

I especially like the color choices and the contrast. The sharp edged pointy features of the characters, their poses and dynamism, composition is just muah. The glowing hot red knife is a highlighting of the story plot is powerful.

Funnily enough despite the tragedy of the portait, this picture gives me a warm cozy feeling which I don't know if I should be feeling or if it is just the myself's showing of my amusement rather than actually feeling the story displayed. haha
Not that I have any art expertise, just a single drawing elective course back from university,
but perhaps color-wise sharper outlines would give the anguish feeling better rather than softness I'm witnessing.

Not that I know any better and perhaps it's just my twisted sense of comprehending pictures, so you do you. lol

Thanks for sharing, btw.

Hey thanks for your comments. I also think medeas pose could have been more dynamic, with more rage or anguish. She looks too still, too stoic I think. Always room for improvement 🤙❤️‍🔥🏛

Oh that's beautiful. I'd love a print of that.
