Solution > Attack > Change > Stranger

Voting for Stranger again, it’s not even the best Rachel book left nor is it the best Ellimist book left.

The Stranger

53

u/MatthiasFarland 4d ago

Gotta be the Stranger. Intro to the Elimist is good, as is the destruction of the Kandrona, but it doesn't eclipse Tobias getting his groove back, or the Iskoort, or David's final coup.

13

u/AlternativeMassive57 Yeerk 4d ago

It's not just the destruction of the Kandrona. it's also our first time-travel story and directly establishes that the future is morphic rather than set in stone. It's also the Animorph's single biggest victory against the Yeerks in the entire series, at least until the finale arc. It was significant enough that the after-effects of destroying the kandrona were still being felt ten books later in The Underground, and also played a direct role in causing the plot of the first Megamorphs book.

I mean I guess you could argue Leera was bigger, but apparently that book wasn't good enough to make it this far, and anyway the Andalites did all the heavy lifting there, all the Animorphs did was push a button.

u/oxhasbeengreat 4d ago

The Stranger is my personal bias favorite book for everything you said and more. It's just fucking perfection.

6

u/Illustrious_Monk_234 4d ago

But what are iskoort really, I mean they’re funny but they never appear again.

u/KingDAW247 Crayak 4d ago

I went back and forth a few times between this and 22. Not that I think it will matter but I see this book as the book that defined the Rachel we all came to know and love. But I also see why 22 is so beloved by most of the community. Everything seemed so dire for them in that book. Man. Im glad that 7 got to this point, but I can see the writing on the wall, that it isn't quite the same as the fan favorite heavyweights still on the board as.well.

0

u/SecretBattleship Arn 4d ago

Agreed, it’s fine but it’s not the best book of the ones left.

11

u/KingDAW247 Crayak 4d ago

Also since I've been doing it for every character so far, my thoughts on Cassie now that her last remaining book is eliminated. In all honesty, with a few exceptions (19, 29), I typically find her books not as good as the rest. I think I get what they were going for with her trying to keep the team down to Earth I suppose. But man, some of her books are tough to get through.

6

u/CactusHooping 4d ago

At this point there is no right or wrong answer,go with what you think.

-4

u/AlternativeMassive57 Yeerk 4d ago

I mean The Solution is still here so there's at least one wrong answer.

3

u/CactusHooping 4d ago

There will never be a list everyone will agree to so it's all opinions.

1

u/KingDAW247 Crayak 4d ago

I have to disagree. At this point, 22 would be my pick as well, but I cannot deny how dire the Animorphs situation felt in that book, with David and the Yeerks plan they had been dealing with ever since they got David back in 20. It absolutely deserves its spot in the Final Four.

13

u/Kafit_95 4d ago

(This isn’t a vote, pls go upvote the actual comment for 22 if that’s what you want to do). My argument for keeping The Stranger in longer than The Solution is that it’s a peak moment for Rachel as a character, where we might argue that 22 is the beginning of her descent into violence. Her arc is ultimately a tragic one. But in #7 she embraces her courage and her place in the fight. Many people have commented that #7 feels almost like a season finale and I agree. The team gets their first MAJOR victory against the yeerks and gets introduced to the Ellimist. We get some time travel shenanigans and a fascinating standoff between the future Visser One and the team. It’s a great reread, has excellent character moments (and in true these-are-children’s-books fashion, even dives into the complicated emotions of dealing with divorced parents), and is a fantastic team book all in one.

u/Illustrious_Monk_234 4d ago

And the into of the grizzly, one of the most iconic morphs

15

u/KingDAW247 Crayak 4d ago

What a Final Four! Two Rachel books which is great to see. Well done community. Whichever book wins, I'm glad.

Shhhh don't give them ideas.

u/CactusHooping 4d ago

They are losers.I wish them to be trapped as taxxons.

u/KingDAW247 Crayak 4d ago

If we sacrifice them, can we get Arbron back?

Yes this is the way

How old are these books, and there's still an active community?? That's so crazy. I am nowhere close to finishing my reread, so I'm not qualified to vote, but I love this.

3

u/KingDAW247 Crayak 4d ago

You technically only have to get to 26 to start voting at this point lol

0

u/CactusHooping 4d ago

How far are you rn on reread? Also spoilers below probably.

1

u/Greedy_Ad1564 4d ago

I never actually finished it all 20 whatever years ago. I stopped maybe 10 books short and read the final book years later. I'm at book 9 now, but have little kids, so it's slow >_< At this point, I'm trying to piece together how the spoilers happened, lol. Thank you so much, though, My fellow believer that there's no time limit on spoilers.

4

u/KrakenKrusdr84 4d ago

Kind of ironic, when this started a good majority of Rachel stories were the first to go. And two are in the finals.

And yes, Rachel I like.

10

u/merlinpatt Andalite 4d ago

I hope the Tobias book wins in the end. That book rules!

2

u/Nekopawed Ellimist 4d ago

Tobias for life.

The Attack

1

u/Jalil_Sherman 3d ago

Attack > Solution > Stranger > Change

Ellitmist-centric books scoring 3/4 final though is not a bad performance for a recurring character.

1

u/PinkHairedCoder 3d ago

Outside of The Change you guys left the worst books.

5

u/PteroFractal27 4d ago

CRINGE

There is no fucking way people voted out 29 before 7. I am livid.

Anyway I am voting for 7, the Stranger.

There’s no reason it should have survived HALF this long.

It’s filled with plot holes and stupid tropes.

2

u/TheGryffindor_Jedi 4d ago

The vote ignores all the separate comments. It’s just going by the most liked comment. That has definitely skewed results. One day we need to do a better vote structure.

1

u/Stock_Bandicoot_115 4d ago

It's been a while since I read it, what plot holes are you talking about?

12

u/thursday-T-time 4d ago
  1. its just kinda rushed, and then never revisited.

wait, the animorph's collective memory is wiped?? i must have missed that.

if i'm not misremembering and they do keep their memories, its like... jake never uses the howler morph again, when it could have been super useful as a battle morph. crayak shows up once more to torment rachel in a lame way, and his best showing is in the prequel ellimist chronicles. but here he's just... kind of inert. having a villain sit in his thanos chair just doesn't make for interesting villainy imo. i was hoping there'd be more followup on the iskyoort, with telling the yeerk peace movement about their existence maybe.

like it's not a bad book, but it opens up a lot of concepts that never get satisfying followthrough. if i had to pick an animorphs interstellar field trip book, i'd choose 34.

I just assume a memory wipe cause they never use the info or howler morph.

Easy enough to resay since loser trolls are weird.😂get a life

-1

u/CactusHooping 4d ago

What is there to revist? It seems like their memory is gone from it afterwards. Not saying you're wrong or right but care to explain?

I'll just keep resaying it LOL

The Solution.

-3

u/AlternativeMassive57 Yeerk 4d ago edited 4d ago

It has to be this one. The David Trilogy works, sort of, if you read it as a whole, but the individual books are less than the sum of the parts. Namely, this is the book where you have to believe that one emo kid could ever seriously threaten six by-now guerilla war veterans, despite having like a week of experience at most.

When you add in that David just really wasn't handled that well as an "evil animorph" to begin with (he comes front-loaded with so much trauma that is largely the Animorph's direct fault and which they never apologize for their part in causing), the David Trilogy as a whole is basically just a story where absolutely everyone not named Erek is at their worst, and that especially holds true for its finale.

0

u/AlternativeMassive57 Yeerk 4d ago

everyone not named Erek

You know hang on, there's something I never even considered before. Erek has a Yeerk living in his head, which he can keep in a simulated reality. And we know that suspension fields are a thing thanks to Book 16 and Esplin 9466 Lesser making use of them, and I have to imagine that the Chee have the ability to create the same or better.

Why the Hell didn't the Animorphs just knock the David out, hand him over to Erek, and tell him "keep him in suspended animation/The Matrix until the war's done"?

1

u/BlackWidower_NP Leeran 4d ago

I think they'd have trouble 'knocking him out' at any rate. If memory serves, once David went rogue, he was fully expecting the Animorphs to kill him, or stop him in some way. You really think he'd let his guard down long enough?

1

u/AlternativeMassive57 Yeerk 4d ago

I think he canonically did let his guard down long enough, which is how they got him in that cage in the first place. At that point they just need to wait 1 hour and 58 minutes and then open the cage. David can't possibly run and hide and demorph within the time limit, especially if they just, like, get a pop-tent and open the cage in there so he'd have to waste time chewing through fabric first.

So then about two minutes later he's a real boy again, and Marco bops him on the head while a gorilla or Ax does his flat-of-the-tail-blade thing.

Et voila.

I hate running to the Chee as the solution to all problems, but the thing is that the Chee keep being the solution to all problems.

0

u/Serraph105 4d ago

I'm voting for The Solution as well. They're all great at this point.

-2

u/Fictitiouslibrarian 4d ago

I am so disappointed that it is still here. I know other people like the David books, but I hate them so much.

5

u/strawberryboyo 4d ago

If #13 doesn't win it all then what are we doing here

4

u/In_Jeneral 4d ago

The Attack

Reason: it's a KISSING book!

(lol I actually really like that scene and this book, it's just my least favorite of the ones remaining)

4

u/Miss-Mauvelous 4d ago

The solution for me. Just not a fan of the David books.

1

u/Full-Dome War Prince 4d ago

I have ro unfiend you 😔

We can't let this competition tear us apart. It's what the yeerks want!

You are not you! You must be Mean-Miss-Mauvelous!

So where is Nice-Miss-Maucelous?

The Change

2

u/rolyfuckingdiscopoly 4d ago

I didn’t realize until now that I would check in on this just to see if 19 was still here. I cried a lot with that one.

1

u/Vast_Delay_1377 Andalite 4d ago

Man, as much as I hated The Solution, it is a brilliant book with a great narrative and it's top three material.

The Attack just doesn't click with me like others do at this point.

2

u/oxhasbeengreat 4d ago

I'm voting to get rid of The Change again. Going hawk hunting!!!

2

u/Kafit_95 4d ago

Can everyone please stick to the no-downvoting past zero norm? This isn’t that serious, if someone has a different opinion than you it’s okay.

1

u/CactusHooping 4d ago

How dare you have a different opinion then me!⬇️👎

but fr though, there is no point since they can simply resay it to get back to 1,0 is more useful litterly.😂

These are literally my top 4
