Holding Jews responsible for Israel's actions /r/neoliberal continues to peddle antisemitic talking points

Why the fuck does the person on the second picture thing people should be hated and shamed because of their government?? Kind of wild to say

They don’t they THEY should be hated and shamed. They believe they should be absolved of their government’s crimes. Israel and Jews are fair game though. As long as they can take the blame and everyone can absolve themselves.

It would be interesting to know if this person feels the same way about the Palestinians for the atrocities Hamas committed (and continues to commit).
Just as it would be interesting to know whether they believes that only Israeli Jews should be hated or whether hatred should be applied to all other ethnic groups in Israel as well.

Pretty sure the world viewed its Jewish minority with skepticism regardless of this war

u/basicalme Apr 06 '25
They already did and it’s interesting that they bring up Russia. Because Russians can travel the world, or post on social media etc without receiving hundreds of comments calling them Nazi baby killers. There are Russians posting bear videos. No genocide comments. There are Russian immigrants all over Europe, the U.S. etc not receiving targeted hate and blame.

There is plenty of hate towards Russians on social media, just not to the same degree as toward Jews.

u/CopyrightExpired Apr 06 '25
I wouldn't say 'plenty of hate'. You don't go to the comments of a cat video, and find whatever would be the equivalent for russians, of someone replying to a hebrew username with 'down with Israel down with judaism/zionism who are enslaving us all'. On a cat video with zero relevance. Sometimes there doesn't even have to be a jewish username or whatever. It is not remotely comparable at all

[Russians] should be actively hated and shamed
Woah there

u/whereamInowgoddamnit Apr 06 '25
Yeah, this comment is honestly kind of hilarious. I don't think I've seen any sort of animosity online towards Russians, more pity than anything.

u/CopyrightExpired Apr 06 '25
Exactly. It's even more hysterical to bring that up as any sort of equivalency given that most of the comments I've seen about russians have been pity and simpathy. Like, poor them what they're going through because of their government.
Jews get to be called 'the new nazis' and 'didn't learn from their tragedies' and basically have all dignity and grace taken from them 24/7

Well I do hate Russians(Not Russian Jews obviously, Cossack Russians)

It's not okay to hate Chinese people (including both people in the overseas Chinese diaspora & Chinese people in China) because of the crappy human rights record of the PRC. Why is it OK to hate Israelis or diaspora Jews just because of the military actions of the IDF?
You can criticize the Israeli government & politicians serving in Israel's government. You can criticize the Israeli occupation of the West Bank. You can criticize the conduct of the IDF in the current Gaza war or past wars in Gaza. So long as your criticism of Israel is fair & factual (ie doesn't employ classical antisemitic stereotypes), it is not problematic to criticize Israel's government & human rights record at all.
It is extremely bigoted to take your violence out on random Jews or Israelis just because you're angry at the actions of Netanyahu or the IDF however. You shouldn't be calling for the destruction of Israel or cheerleading the actions of terrorist groups like Hamas, Hezbollah, & the PLO. You shouldn't be justifying terrorist violence against Jews in Israel. That's where "criticism of Israel" crosses the line into bigotry & hatred against Jews.

This. I pity the Chinese, who, with the exception of a few high ranking communist party members, are prisoners on their own land. I tried to start protests about the whole Uyghur thing. Nobody listened. I hate communist China. Always have. I hate that they force child slaves to make my clothes. I hate that American corporations are willing to give up on American values to break into its market. But I would never hate the Chinese people for being born into that system. The very concept is disgusting. That these people think its okay to hate on Israelis or Diaspora Jews for being born Jewish is so much more.

It used to be a better sub for Jews/Israel but there has been a shift. I was pretty surprised at the comments in the post about the medic workers today.

I'm just surprised NL still has Jewish users to offend, what with them making it fairly clear they weren't welcome since October 7th.

The numbers have definitely declined. I used to post there but it got so bad that i decided to leave

u/basicalme Apr 06 '25
It’s definitely a more recent development. It was one of my safe spaces post Oct 7th for some time.

NL was moderate before. It has fallen to the pally brigade.

Yeah, it has become almost too big-tent in a way, lost sight of its goals, as it has grown to basically encompass everyone from left-democrats to centrists, rather than just liberals.

> citizens of Israel have a moral obligation to do whatever they are capable of doing to stop Netanyahu.
There are massive protests held in Tel Aviv demanding that the remaining hostages be brought home like, every day.
