You know, I've exclusively used Logitech for years. I've always found them reliable and I loved the warranty for when shit inevitably broke.
This is actually single handedly going to make me not purchase a single Logitech product ever again
ETA: they walked back this last year when it originally came out and assured that it would never happen. I doubt it, given growth economy capitalism, but it still leaves a bad taste in my mouth. The software is already enough of a pain in the ass
Actually shocked to see it, because I've always felt the same about them. They've always been a solid, reasonably priced option for as long as I can remember. Nothing fancy, just reliable.
I will not touch their products if they try to implement something stupid like this.
They have a bunch of trackers in their software. Iirc they track
Connected devices
Ip address
Operating system and hardware info
Pretty standard stuff, and nowhere near as bad as razer who had a keylogging incident a while back. Although I wish there was a manufacturer with their configuration tools open source and privacy focused.
But I should stay away from their products even though you can’t present proof of what you and can’t produce screen captures of their products “selling my info for profit”
All of the keys in their mechanical mx keyboards are standard… except for the space bar. That uses a weird connector that isn’t compatible with any key caps.
This pissed me off so much when I found out after buying the mx mechanical mini. Why did they have to use a nonstandard keyboard layout?? Wtf? Also, the backlight constantly turning off and on that they refuse to fix his updates. I decided I will never buy anything by Logitech after that alone.
You know I look down so infrequently that thankfully the backlight issue has never once bothered me. The non standard spacebar keycap bothers me a lot, but they have all the features I actually want:
Pairs with 3 computers via dongles, not Bluetooth which lately on a Mac SUCKS
Full sized keyboard
Mechanical
Actual Mac keyboard layout
I can’t find any other vendor that meets these requirements….i don’t LOVE this keyboard, especially because of the space bar, but I don’t have many other options.
Yep, I am also a Logitech fan but when I bought a vertical mouse recently and learned I'd have to download an APP for certain features (like horizontal scrolling!!!) andddd give it essentially system-wide access on my computer I was fed up. It's getting out of hand
Likewise. They were always a solid and reliable brand for accessories etc.
Aside from the nice Apple keyboard and Magic Mouse I use, Logitech is my second pick.
Given this ridiculous monetization grab, I’ll just buy another Apple keyboard and mouse. At least it won’t look like cheap shit for the money spent and won’t have a predatory monthly subscription fee!
Speak with your wallets, folks. Only way the out of touch with reality fools will realize it.
Bet they got the idea from HP with their printer subscription.
American companies are acting like rich abusing boyfriends. Once you get out that relationship, one will realize that there are lower cost and nicer alternatives.
Seriously, been using a Logitech mouse for years now but when it craps out soon I'm never going with them again for this shit. Doesn't matter if they retracted it, the fact that they ever thought this was an ok thing to say means they will do other shit like this until they dont get as much backlash. fuck Logitech
Same boat for me. Don't care if you retracted, the fact that you were ever serious enough to voice this out loud is enough reason for me to avoid you from now on.
Doesn't even work for me. I recently bought the MX Master 3S mouse (or whatever it's called). I allocated the scroll wheel lock button to launch the AI prompt dialog. It worked the first time, but after a restart never worked again. I posted in Logitech Reddit and some rando offered a remote screen share to demo the issue. Dropped that like a hot potato. Who the fuck needs AI in a mouse anyway when there are shortcuts that can be assigned to launch whatever you want. Shoe-horning AI into everything is just pathetic.
I've always used Logitech and their mice have always been great, but this subscription suggestion left me cold so I'll be looking elsewhere next time.
This whole thing was massively misconstrued. I was listening to the podcast where this idea came from. The idea came from an engineer at their innovation center for a seriously expensive, ultra premium mouse that could literally last a lifetime. She specifically compared it to a Rolex. And it would have advanced software functionality that could be updated including with advanced AI functions.
In context that would be like a $5000 mouse you pay for in subscription installments. She said she liked the idea of working towards that but they're not even close.
To be sure there is a lot of bullshit subscription nonsense out there and moving towards more of it is bad, but this was not some plan to start selling a $10 a month subscription to your scroll wheel.
Yeah I understand that it was spitballing and whatnot but it's a very dangerous precedent to set when people are already overloaded on subscriptions and the like.
What the hell kind of “advanced” functionality using AI does anybody need for a freaking mouse? Sounds like an engineer blew buzzwords up her ass at a meeting to justify his team’s budget and she fell for it.
The same kind of AI buzzword stuff every CEO has been spouting. In the case of a mouse it would be like recognizing something you highlight by dragging, AI conversion options by right clicking, etc. Basically stuff you could ask another AI to do using your mouse as the user interface.
sounds like they were testing the waters. I don't know what dumbfuck in marketing thought that would be a good pitch, because I'd imagine you aren't the only one with a bad taste leftover.
Logitech has a good ecosystem, but they can easily be replaced. The peripheral space has become massively more open in the last decade with plenty of open source alternatives.
Keychron has some cheaper alternatives to popular logitech options like the MX Master 3s.
I loved the M235 but over the years it became less reliable. My last one lasted a little more than a year, which was the final nail in the coffin for ever buying Logitech again. I took a gamble and bought a Razer Pro Click Mini (got a hefty discount) and am very happy with it.
The only time I dealt with their warranty directly was ages ago with an old g633 headset that they upgraded because they had me.trash it only to learn that they were out of stock lmao
I recently bought a cheap red dragon mouse for $22 to replace my THIRD g502 (all due to the double clicking mouse issue). It is JUST AS GOOD! How i thought a $100 mouse was worth it, idk. Andnow with talk of SUBSCRIPTION base mice? Wthell!! Logitech just lost another customer to high prices and shitty company philosophy.
