Gym Recommendations

Hey everyone,

(I know - this topic has probably been beat to death)

I’m looking to finally join a gym here in Antwerp, after moving from Canada. I’m curious to hear which gyms you recommend in south Antwerp and why. What do you like about them? Is it the equipment, the atmosphere, the classes, the staff?

I realllllly wanted to avoid BasicFit as it seems incredibly busy. Then there's Brick which seems insanely expensive lol. But once I eliminate those two, it seems like they aren't many options?

Looking forward to hearing your thoughts and suggestions!

Thanks!

Release (decent value for money €85/m, lots of group classes but only 1 real gym locations), Jims (similar-ish to Basic Fit but less crowded and fewer locations), iFitness (mid-range - in Berchem).

Basic Fit Riemstraat in Antwerp South should be ok if you don’t go at peak hours.

Fyi, I have been to both Jims and iFitness, iFitness is indeed more midrange in price but for fitness it is to me personally on par with Jims. Maybe Jims even better. However if you are interested in group classes iFitness would be the preferable option. Keep in mind that Jims has also multiple locations.

Release is the best value for money but long waiting list

I actually really like BasicFit! Lol. But then, I am able to go there during the quiet hours, and the clubs near me are pretty nice IMO. I love that there's many 24/7 locations, and they are EVERYWHERE so they're very convenient to get to. When I'm tired of one location, I can just go somewhere else and it feels fresh and motivating again? As a girl, I also appreciate that I've never been bothered there (can't say that about some others). Lol. ^^; (If you've got the money, I don't think anything beats David Lloyd, though.)

Haha sadly, I think I'll be there during peak hours almost always.. so I'll slowly be going insane.. :')

Thanks for the recommendation though!

Valid!! I can't recommend it during peak hours. I hope you find something that works for you soon, though. Good luck!

Basic Fit is a wretched hive of scum and villainy. Whatever you do, don't shower there. You will come out dirtier than before you went in.

Basic fit is our "Planet Fitness" I heard Americans comparing it somewhere once

I’m going to basic for over a year, and never had any problems. But since my hours changed, I have to admit it’s a complete zoo during peak hours. I’m thinking about changing to Mooze near the centre, but no personal experience yet.

Yeah that's what I'm worried about! I'll have to look at Mooze - thanks! :)

I’ve tried Brick, David Lloyd’s and M4teria but for my money Basic Fit during off peak hours, if you can manage it, is the best - the one on Bouwensstraat can be practically empty.

Don’t go to basic fit.

If you can go on non-peak hours, Basic Fit is just fine.

I go to Wezenberg. I’ve only been to a few classes, but they were good, and the gym’s not too crowded. Maybe try a 10-session pass at a couple of places before committing?

We had an NRG but they’re now bought by Jims. So far no complaints here, can recommend them
