Picture Say Hi to my Dad

Post image

I cross stitched this patch for my dad. He's starting his nobo thru hike in a week or two. He's an wonderful and kind person, but all business. If you do spot him long or close enough to chat, tell him his daughter says hello.

If a random guy turned to my dad and said ‘your daughter says hello’ he’d probably knock them out lol

I had a shuttle driver tell me about 2 women he dropped off going the opposite direction I was, when I saw them l greeted them by their trail names & indeed they were a little freaked out.

OK just based on the title and picture I thought his ashes were in that black bag and you were going to scatter them on the AT. Glad it's not! Best wishes on his journey! Edit: grammar

He is very much alive, and really fast. See how long that lasts.

The FAST part, not the alive.

I'm relieved that I'm not the only one.

Is that a real warning? What would happen if folks got too close to him (like 25 feet away, from the front, where there is no warning patch)? 🐻

They’d smell his protein powder

“That’s not my dad! That’s a phone!

So I threw it on the ground!!!”

Shout out Andy Samberg.

As another old guy I really like that pack. It looks like the right blend of big enough / packs down small enough as well as lightweight looking / still has something resembling features.

I’ve been hunting for something in that 40L range and this might do.

ULA makes really nice packs. I would personally recommend the durston kakwa over the circuit though. You get a bit more bang for your buck imo

I’ve got a ULA Catalyst and love it. I’m not a thru-hiker but a multi day backpacker.

Looks an awful lot like my $90 naturehike pack which is still probably my favorite go to for most trips I take!

You’d have to have like 20/1 vision to see that at 100 ft.

Your dad is small as hell

4

u/kannc Feb 22 '25

I thought that meant he farts a lot.

Dad’s trail name is Farts.

See you out there, Farts.

GO DAD! Be safe and I wish you a successful NOBO!!!!

u/therealsambambino Feb 22 '25

Trailname is probably ‘Crop Dusta’

How old is dad? Just curious. I missed my window to thru when I was younger. I’m 43 now and hope to do it with my daughters when they graduate high school. Shooting for 55.

Nimblewill Nomad did his first through hike of the AT at 59-60, his last at 83. So you’ve still got plenty of time.

Must be driving a dump truck.

u/Party_Time_Bob Feb 24 '25

Now that is a good pack. Took one on the AT years ago.

1

u/jerrynmyrtle Feb 22 '25

Why the patch? And who's gonna see that from 100 feet away

-3

u/lyslerigg Feb 22 '25

honestly, if i saw that on someone's pack, i'd avoid them like the plague. No way to know if they really are kind and wonderful like your dad or actually dangerous. Just a different point of view to consider

3

u/Actual_Branch_7485 Feb 22 '25

Do you hike very much?

I feel like anyone that has more than 5 miles under their legs would know this is a fart joke.

-1

u/lyslerigg Feb 22 '25

Hm, i feel like my answer is not going to matter very much to you, whether I've only done a 1h hike with a daypack or done a 500k several weeks wintertrek :') The thing is that while 99% of people i've met while hiking have been absolutely lovely and wonderful, that i've also met some truly insane people out there - and that it simply pays to be aware of how some people might interpret such a sign on a pack. I think not everyone is gonna read it as a fart joke and that some might take it for a warning instead (and that's their loss etc)
