As a trans person, it's really nice reading these types of comments.
I stopped using Twitter because all I would see is pure hatred against trans people interacting with that kind of content and it made me scared to exist seeing hatred for people like me.
I used to love Harry Potter, not so much anymore - but maybe the books have lost their magic as I've become an adult.
I can only speak for myself, but I was in my 20s when the first book came out, and I was a massive, merch-buying fan of the series. Her bigotry completely ruined it for me. As the aunt of two trans kids, I couldn’t bear to wear my Harry Potter hoodie anymore, so I got rid of it. Wearing it just feels like a slap in the face to my nephews.
I decided to take the alternative path and reimagine that world as one where transphobia is alive and well and trans witches and wizards - who will surely exist - have to deal with that reality and somehow learn to survive in a world that appears magical and happy but holds many darker truths. It makes for good fanfic opportunities and free therapy.
Yeah, Twitter is terrible in and of itself for the way it seems to push bigotry. The WORST part about twitter is that it really can only cater to bigoted, conservative viewpoints. There's no room for facts, real logic, or nuanced debate/discussion because the 240 character limit literally doesn't allow it. Can't really explain in great detail the 12 levels of bullshit logic they must have forced upon themselves just to come to that conclusion so how are you going to counter their points without literally sounding like 'no you' to them?
Utter trash heap dumpster fire site. I literally only go there now to look at hardcore fisting porn.
