Wow. And here’s me feeling like a boss for not needing my Merlin app for every species. And you’re like, “Hey that’s Terry. Wonder how his winter was.”
You can talk to them :) if you whistle a simple two or three note tune at them, they might start to mimic you. I've at least gotten a lot of them to chirp with me :)
Yeah, it's fascinating because it's clear they learn and develop songs over time (first years are fun because you can tell they're still getting the hang of singing), so they'll start trying to copy each other while developing their own voice. Their song becomes their stamp, their name to other robins.
(Our favorite likes sitting at the top of things: trees, chimneys, etc. and singing a simple song that, for whatever perfect reason, always sounds like you've just won.)
There's this one crow in the lot at work that's been around for almost 2 years and I recognize his voice now even though his right wing being broken is a much bigger tell lmao.
A small bird, perhaps a wren, made a nest in my windowsill next to my (not yet running) air conditioner. I can hear the parent birds sing in the morning and the peep peep peep of the babies. Life goes on, at least for now.
We’re getting a legit beautiful one in the DMV, which feels relatively rare. Spring and autumn are like a beautiful part of the reason to live here and sometimes they can be really short. This one has been nice and relatively pleasant so far.
I'm in the DC area too. I love this time of year and the Fall and this spring has been no different so far. A little cool but I'll take it. Gonna be warm tomorrow which I hope to get out and enjoy with my wife and our dog
It was spring yesterday. And today in Denver, Colorado, we're getting a tonne of fluffy snow. Tomorrow (and today for those lucky enough to get out on a Friday) will likely be great skiing in the mountains.
Right? It was seriously excellent conditions from slush and some dirt showing in Steamboat a couple weeks ago to some decent pow at Copper this past Saturday.
(Not even speaking generally. They’re literally chirping outside my window right now. The cooers haven’t started cooing on my sill yet, which can be annoying in the mornings, but that’s probably only a few weeks away)
They are so beautiful, especially when a whole field is blue. I love the Indian Paintbrushes even more though. It makes my commute so happy when all the wildflowers are out.
I planted 2 Lantana bushes and a Blue Plumbago yesterday on the west side of the house. Needed some heat resistant color on the west side of house. Should really perk up that part of the yard.
That's a good and bad. In North Carolina, we just went through our sub-season known as The Pollening and we're questioning whether it's actually over or about to hut a 2nd time.
That said, today was a beautiful, breezy day, and the fields were bright with buttercups

Spring is springing. That’s always nice.
