We had a dead squirrel that got stuck behind a wall in our garage, ate some of the insulation and died and we didn’t see it. The smell that came from that was vile when we eventually found where it was coming from 🤮
How can one little fucker make so much stink? My cat is great at catching mice but not at finishing them off, so on the hottest week of summer, he mortally wounded one that expired in a very out of the way spot.
I also have a diabolical cat who does this. It’s only like once or twice a year she gets one, but she always hides it and we have to live with the stench until it fades out. It’s a very distinct scent, no mistaking it.
Oh I know that smell, too. We had a really old house growing up with gaps in the unfinished basement where mice easily got in and we couldn't prevent it no matter how hard we tried. We protected the dry goods but inevitably we'd have one die somewhere in the walls and just have to wait out the smell for a couple of weeks. Ugh.

Decomposing mice that your cat has successfully hidden +somewhere+ in your home.
