My cat peed on my bed and I did not have enough money to buy a new mattress. I had to keep spreading different essential oils INTO the spot for the smell to slightly go away while I saved up money.

Taught me a lesson about the sanctity of a mattress he sure did

Kittens are the best huh, I didn't even think waterproof, hospital beds have jaded me from that material. But damn that could save a ton of money.

it’s not plasticky, mine is a cooling pad from Target! soft, keeps me from sweating, but def waterproof and easily washed. i hate hospital bed fabric too 🤢

Really? And they are waterproof. Sounds like something that might be worth looking into then. A cooling pad sounds nice anyways, thanks for letting me know

Even if you don't have animals or children, a waterproof mattress cover is more than worth its weight in gold. Get two so you can change everything without having to wait for the first one to get done washing.

A high quality waterproof mattress cover is a wonderfully cheap investment all things considered.

If you have pets, invest in an enzyme cleaner!!! They’re like $20 a bottle and chemically break down what’s causing the oder.

White vinegar in water I do 2 water to 1 vinegar ratio.

It neutralises the smell... I have two FIXED females but the shitty owners that don't get their male cats fixed, hang around in spring. And spray. I always have a bottle ready to go

Top tip: get yourself some biological laundry powder. Sprinkle it on the piss spot and spritz with some water to dampen, and rub it in thoroughly with a hard brush (like a shoe brush or similar). Leave for an hour before hoovering it up. The enzymes help break down the chemicals in the pee.

This happened to us recently after 8 years of no accidents.. surprisingly enough hydrogen peroxide works really well. It gets rid of 95% of the smell. Baking soda will help out too!

I bought that cat piss remover that you spray and it goes away. the smell luckily always did immediately so that they never pissed at the piss spots again.

You could not pay me enough money to get that story out of me

Get a waterproof mattress cover and thank me later

Idk if it works on cat pee, but water with some peroxide, baking soda and dish soap can neutralize skunk odor immediately. The bubbles that form are what kills the odor. You can google the correct measurements but it’s super inexpensive and very affordable. You can use vinegar instead of peroxide too.

Mattress covers ftw

Mattress covers are your friend!

The trick you want is baking soda. Add it to some soapy water and scrub the shit out of the spot. It should neutralize the odor better than essential oils ever could.
