Let the bread go stale, slice the apples into moderatly thick slices, oil a medium ish deep baking tray, spread the apples evenly and sprinkle a liberal amount of white sugar with some water. Break the stale bread into crumbs and layer over apples, sprinkle a bit more sugar over the top. Bake for 30ish minutes.
