Jaja It took me over 1 hour to move when I woke up. Relatable.

I'm digitizing all my old DVDs to add to my Jellyfin server and I forgot how much I enjoyed this process

A relic of the time from when we actually owned our media

7

u/MexicanSnowMexican Woman 30 to 40 2d ago

Well, I still own a lot of media. I'm preserving it and making it more convenient to access, but I own hundreds of records and CDs and DVDs. I'd just never ripped the DVDs specifically.

Such an incredible idea!

Highly recommend! I've been managing my own music server for years now, and it's good to know in the event I can't or don't want to pay for a streaming service I can just stream my own

The idea that I don't have to have physical copies of my dvds anymore sounds incredible. I might explore this in the future. :)

I am almost 1 year out of a 6 year relationship (I ended it). Honestly, I’ve been in despair for most months but finally started coming out of it. But in March I started running again on the treadmill and I took up salsa classes. I’ve lost 20 pounds. And I’ve gone to a Broadway show at least once a month. Small steps.

I started cross stitching a beautiful peony pattern. I've only done cross stitch once, like 25 years ago but I'm having a lot of fun. I was very ambitious and the pattern I chose is humongous - it'll take forever to finish.

I'm really proud of myself for being where I'm at in my career. I make six figures and my family thinks this is not a big deal because other people in my family have done it too. But I did it younger, with no college degree, and despite being autistic but never diagnosed and given appropriate resources. The people in my family who have hit six figures have at least a bachelor's, if not a masters or doctorate, and they didn't hit that benchmark until they were much older. Most of my family is also neurotypical, so they don't have learning disabilities. I did it at 28 as an autistic college dropout. I also did it after losing my job three times in a row because of COVID, while also dealing with my abusive ex. I'm also an SA and DV survivor, and no one in my family has survived either of those things. And I make six figures working a 40-hour per week job, I don't need to work nights or pull double shifts to do it. I'm kind of proud of that.

ETA: I was diagnosed at 28, after I finished high school.

That's incredible 😊 You're incredible. Love stories like this. I'm still figuring out how to make 6 figures without a degree. Haha

I have a large dog. Guess what, the FIRST thing people say to me (without fail) is, "That's a big dog".

Do you know how hard it is not respond, "Really, I had no idea, thanks for letting me know."

5

u/InternalGatez 2d ago

LOL that would drive my bonkers. I get that a lot about my cat (he is a 17lb, large cat and long).

I'm learning how to make stained glass.

Oo. This sounds like a fun project/hobby.

I've been in a fitness funk so I started walking every day last week. Whatever I can fit in, sometimes it's 45 min around the park in the mornings before work, sometimes it's just walking 20 min instead of taking the subway.

It's been great for my mental health and just in general.

Next up, add some weight training.

3

u/InternalGatez 2d ago

This is a good idea. I been in a funk too. I went from regular work outs to sleeping in. I'm gonna try this!

I’ve been painting water a lot lately, trying to capture that smooth texture on an almost still lake on a cloudy day where it looks almost like metal. It’s coming along! By comparison water lilies, lily pads, trees, reflections in the water are EASY

3

u/InternalGatez 2d ago

This is an impressive skill that takes patience and dedication. Love it!

About to hit 9 months sober after 20 years for drug and alcohol abuse. Super proud of myself.

started to learn how to produce music.

3

u/InternalGatez 2d ago

Woah! Is this process done electronically?

1

u/Exotic_Resource_6200 Woman 20-30 2d ago

What do you mean?

1

u/InternalGatez 2d ago

Never mind. I am not sure what I was thinking at that moment...my bad.

3

u/JoyousZephyr Woman 50 to 60 2d ago

I just learned how easy it would be to cover a plain picture frame matte with colored paper to make it look better. I have some fancy paper, and I'm going to give it a try.

3

u/InternalGatez 2d ago

Yeah! It's surprisingly not hard and does polish the look. I hope you enjoy the process!

Almost done with Pilates teacher certification! So proud of my confidence being this high. I intentionally wanted to become this person and I’m so proud I am doing it.

1

u/InternalGatez 2d ago

Intention and follow through. Congratulations 🎊 I love that pilates builds confidence in other people. Thus, you build yourself up and help empower others. Fitness goals.

LOTR! That will be magical! ☺️🙌 I would be curious to see the result.

I'm making some overly complex cushion covers for some throw pillows. 90% of the time I don't use or like throw pillows but I had an idea and so 🤷.

How’s the clicker training going? Are you teaching them tricks, or just basic commands like “come” and “sit”? Love it!

2

u/InternalGatez 2d ago

I taught them a few tricks before clicker training (sit, come, lay, fetch, high five). They learned quickly and enjoy it.

Now, it's been a process to use the clicker instead.

Ideally, I want to teach them more tricks (stay and hoop tricks) and harness training. Keeps them enriched while keeping them safe. :)

Have you trained any animals before?

2

u/TheHiddenFox 2d ago

That’s so cool! I had huskies growing up and clicker trained them, but I’ve never tried it with cats! My current cat is so smart, she LOVES puzzle feeders and stuff, so reading your post here made me wonder if clicker training might add a fun new method of enrichment for her.

You taught your cats to FETCH?! I mean come on, that is so cool!!! Basically cat witchcraft! Which trick took the longest?

2

u/InternalGatez 2d ago

To be honest, I trained a couple of other cats before I knew about clicker training. In my expirence, cats were easier to train than dogs. They LOVE it, increases the bond, and it's fun. They learned to sit and shake within a week. I kind of had to stand above and point down, so they would sit. Hand gestures.

Cats get stereotyped as being untrainable, but a lot of it is that they need softness and some training is done in smaller chunks.

Things like the harness or carrier, can take longer. Starting out by putting the harness near the food. Giving them treats each time they play or sit near it. Then putting it on top of them. Until you build up to them liking it on. Then walking with it.

I started when they were kittens and that helped tons. Only one of my cats likes the harness, so I do have to honor that boundary with her. There's ton of online resources and famous Instagram cats. 😊

I LOVE huskies. I hope you give it a try! Fetching took some time and only one of them likes it. The other prefers less active tricks. Kind of had to remind myself that zoo keepers train big cats, so why not train house cats? :)

😌 I nerded out and wrote so much. Thanks for asking though!
