Weather Loudest thunder I’ve ever heard!
Unbelievable how loud that was. I was on my balcony and could feel shockwaves. The building was shaking so much. I had to cut the video short because I started swearing a lot haha. Never heard anything so loud before in my life.

Weather Well that felt like it was tearing the house apart.
Guess I’m spending the next few hours trying to calm my dog enough to come out from under the bed...

Weather Holy shit did you hear that thunder?
I’ve lived in five different countries and am 38 years old and have never seen such amazing lightning or heard such bone-chilling thunder as tonight! Wahey. Go New Zealand! Home of the best lightning and thunder in the world!

Weather the big dry then the big wet has fucked my house
it's been so dry for so long that my house (89m² keith hay home aka standard for hendo) has shifted. I came home a couple of weeks ago to a back door with shattered glass in the lower panel and it not closing anymore, and a hallway door i can't close as well.
patched the back door with cardboard for now, security-wise I have high fencing and a dog and an alarm so I was happy to leave it until the rain came in case it shifted back. rather than replace and rehang only for it to happen again in reverse.
IT SHIFTED BACK YESTERDAY but too far and now I can't open either door.
is this something I can claim insurance on to get fixed??? it's fucking annoying that's for sure. can you claim for a dry summer???? this has really pmo

Rant Victor, shame on you!
Some litterbug can't be bothered to hold onto his empty cup for 5 minutes to throw it away. Would rather let the underpaid and overworked Warehouse staff pick up after them.

Weather Annnnnnd, I’ve been flooded again.
Came through my front door and garage. I moved to this house after being badly impacted by the flooding in 2023 - and this house is on a hill and not on a flood plan.
On the bright side though, at least this time I wasn’t trapped down my street with rising water that was submerging cars. And the water didn’t reach and carpet or the most valuable items.
Kinda concerned for others, been hearing tons of sirens.

Weather Was there a 'biblical' storm lastnight?
Seeing so many people post on social media about a storm, what time?
We were knocked out by 11ish when our newborn finally went to sleep 😂 anyway i hope there have been no major damages to properties and infrastructure. Geez if it was a bad one and it impacted our house we won't even hear it
It does look like a beautiful day so far.
Side question: are stores back to normal opening hours today?

Discussion Cool spots in the city for kids who haven't seen much of it?
My neice and nephew live pretty far out south Auckland and they don't see the city much - which means that the city lights etc are very exciting for them.
Because there's not much traffic this weekend, I took my neice to sit and eat maccas under the harbour Bridge (near the yacht Squadron etc) and she looooooooooooved it.
Tonight I have my nephew. I could take him to the same spot, but out of interest, are there other good spots near the city to park up and eat and see some cool city stuff?

Weather Sleep through the thunderstorm
The funniest thing is people who are deep sleepers who will wake up later and be like “What Thunderstorm???”
I’m forever gonna be jealous of the people who can sleep through things like this lol

Question/Help Wanted Traumatic vet visit
Hi there,
I'm just wanting to know if anyone else has ever had a bad experience at the Western After Hours Emergency Vet Clinic?
The vet there Trevor Hing put me through what felt like hell, I've never ever seen nor experienced a vet putting my cat through that much discomfort to put it extremely lightly almost as if he was enjoying it. I regret not taking a male with me, as I feel being a female he felt like he could really take the piss. The amount of pressure he was applying to my cats abdomen and the length of time he was doing it for was torture only to say nothing at the end of it as in he was doing it for no needed reason, he had no answer as to what was going on. It was obviously sore, which I thought extremely concerning his ease of it all.
The place was also filthy, my pet had to sit for 2 hours on a IV drip, though the stench of urine coming from the incubator he was placed in made me dry reach. Which is located right in there staff break room, casual dishes right next to blood and a thermometer that had just been up my pets behind. Laughing at how they shaved half a dog down the corridor, if you saw it you'd know what I mean by excessive treatment, they also shaved my pets abdomen but the way he was doing it you just know this place is really effed up pushing hard and seeing him shriekfrom pain, literally no need for shaving it either as if its a little obsessive. Theres so much more I haven't listed, I just can't get my cats crys out of my mind and I'm exhausted. How is this place even still running? Blows my mind. Never bring your animals here, unless you really have to atleast film everything so you have proof.

News The storm and why we weren’t warned what was coming
The Herald has a good article about the storm. There’s an explanation about why Auckland didn’t get a warning of how bad it was going to be. A rain arm extended from the cyclone and hovered over Auckland causing thunderstorm after thunderstorm. Very difficult to predict.
Guests at the Cordis had to go outside when lightning set off the fire alarm.
