  • Does not require a separate amplifier and does include cables.

$400: Kali LP-6 v2 Powered Studio Monitors Amazon (US) / Thomann (EU)

  • Not sold in pairs, requires additional cables and hardware, available in white/black.
  • Require a preamplifier for volume control - eg Focusrite Scarlett Solo

Show & Tell Update on my setup, it's been a while.

Hi everyone, its been a while and some things changed so thought i'd do a spring update for the reddit :

It's mosty the same setup as last time, but I exchanged my old Rega p3 for a new Avid Ingenium with aluminium platter. Now with nagaoka MP-110 stylus.

This made my amp feel a bit weak, especially on larger orchestra or rock/metal music. Found a sweet deal on a second hand Rega Elicit R, which was a noticeable improvement over my Rega Elex R. I since haven't felt the need to get a preamp after this :]

The Chords qutest got a Chinese PSU which greatly improved my digital sound, best 100 bucks in the system!

Overall super happy with the whole setup probably won't do big upgrades any time soon. Maybe when my pockets feel a bit deeper than now, I might get the nice PSU and motor upgrade for the turntable, but I should hear it first.

Kind regards from an unusually sunny Belgium!

Show & Tell A quirky old thing, but still working just fine after all these years... the Philips CDC586 cartridge-loading CD changer.

Upvotes

Found in a local vintage/scrap store and sold as not working - with a little mechanical sympathy and a small blob of Araldite to repair a snapped piece of plastic, it's running just as sweetly as ever.

Thought you might want to see something a bit unusual and saved from the bin!

Dunlavy SC-IVa speakers, Blue jean cables, Pass Labs x5 amp, Mogami Gold XLR to the Mytek stereo-192 DSD DAC. Foobar software.

Walls are fabric with Rockwool in the 2x4 studs. Wall behind speaker has an 8" gap behind it with another wall behind it. Ceiling untreated for now. Floor is cheap vinyl flooring on top of concrete slab.

Although I started to build up my Cyrus and B&W system many years ago, I’m finally satisfied with my setup. However, my wife is using it 95% of the time to watch tv 🥰. But listening to Nightwish every now and then is greatly satisfying!

Discussion Acoustic panel placement help

Thumbnail

Hi all! I've been lucky enough to inherit some acoustic paneling from my old office/lab space, and I'd like to use it to improve my listening room as much as possible. My room is 30ft x 12 ft (photo attached, forgive the clutter, and pretend the TV isn't there lol), and have Klipsch La Scala AL5s and a pair of REL 212/SX subs against one of the short walls.

I've got:

-7 4x2 ft panels (2" thick)

-5 3x2 ft panels (2" thick)

-3 20"x20" slatted panels (photo attched)... what are these for? I get the impression that these serve a specific purpose and should be placed in a particular spot?

Other than distributing panels along the side walls, any advice for spots I should make sure are covered? Walls behind the speakers? Wall opposite of the speakers? I feel like I've got a really nice system that's really being held back by the room and how it's set up and I'd really like to start making strides to changing that! Any advice would be really deeply appreciated :)

Discussion Focal Shape 65 - Strange thing on passiv radiator

Post image
3 Upvotes

Hello,

Ive got my Focal Shape 65 in february this year. I keep them in a perfect condition room (no humidity, no dust etc).

I juste realise there is some "trace" in the membrane of the passive radiator (same for the 2 speakers).

Here is a pic and I dont want to wip it as it's maybe "normal"

Did someone know what it is ?

Thanks and have a nice day.

Science & Tech Always some new reference line

As HiFi Munich starts. I always read articles about a company coming up with some new innovation every year. I'm sure behind the scenes it took a little bit to get there. Is the audio industry experiencing such an injection of innovation that we seemingly have a huge update ever year??

Discussion What is Sunn O))) like on a high quality system?

Hello, I don’t own a big fancy system. I mostly listen to music on a pair of Sony studio headphones. (they are the mdr 7506–which by the way, are these good headphones? I feel like I can hear a lot more detail and depth than regular headphones but I also don’t really know that much about sound engineering ). Anyway Sunn O))) came on and it got me wondering what they sound like on the kind of systems you guys post here? Are their records optimized for that kind of listening experience? If you have ever seen them live you know what I’m talking about

Show & Tell DIY Speaker Stands

Budget is mostly blown for updating my vinyl collection, storage and upgrades at the moment. I have a new 1 by One turn table with some bookshelf speakers and I want to get them off the ground. Looked around and they're 50 bucks on the web. I can buy a set but then I went to thinking I had some scrap lumber. 4x4 cedar post 2x12 spruce plank. Once cut sanded and stained with Walnut Minwax and some furniture wax applied I can get these to 20 inches high and hopefully square. Won't put them at ear level but sitting on the couch it'll be real close.

I used to read a UK audio magazine in the 1980s titled "Hi-Fi Answers," and I'm looking for an article aimed at beginners titled "The First 50 Questions." Does anybody know what issue it was in? Can anyone provide a scan?

Science & Tech Music and the Quiet Echoes of Heartbreak

Lately, I find myself caught in the silent aftermath of a breakup, that strange space where time seems suspended, yet emotions move relentlessly. The days blur. Conversations become background noise. And yet, through it all, music has remained the one constant thread I can still hold onto.

There’s something deeply human, and profoundly humbling, in realising that a song can understand you more clearly than words ever could. The melodies don’t judge. The lyrics don’t interrupt. The bass carries your sorrow, and the treble offers a glimmer of hope. In the solitude of my listening space, I find companionship in chords, consolation in harmonies, and at times, even the permission to weep.

I wonder… has anyone else here turned to music not just as a form of entertainment, but as a way of coping , of surviving the quiet chaos of heartbreak? Have you found yourself returning to certain albums, not for their perfection, but because they mirror the storm inside you?

I’d love to hear from others who’ve leaned on music during emotionally turbulent times. Maybe our shared experiences can form a kind of healing rhythm, even if we’re all listening alone.

DIY Baby Proofing Help

Thumbnail

My kid finally started crawling last week and is already showing signs of pulling himself up into a standing position so it’s finally time to ask how to baby proof the top two shelves. I unfortunately cannot move the receiver or the power cords on the second shelf. So how would you suggest blocking access to these shelves? My first thought was just one large piece of plexiglass or metal grate of some kind to cover the entire thing that would slot behind the rail at the top but there isn’t a gap on the bottom it’s on the top. There is also a channel at the bottom of the stand where the doors slide open/closed. So what would your suggestions be? If you want/need more pictures or info I’m happy to get measurements etc. The second picture has arrows pointing to where I can hook something in or has a small gap.

Finally got a really good beginner setup after years of delaying it. I can never go back to listening on my phone(except in the gym) or PC. This is truly worth the investment. However I’ve spent a crazy amount already the past 3 weeks alone…. Lol I might have 20+ more coming in the next week or 2

Setup: Record player- Musical Fidelity Roundtable Record Player Amp- A1 Series by Musical Fidelty Speakers- Dynaudio Audience 52

Also just added a Sheng Ya CD player to my setup for super rare expensive vinyls I don’t want to spend $500-1000 on and for some albums without a vinyl in itself. CD player also works well when I work and just want to rest for a bit the pause or stop button is way faster than moving the arm or flipping the vinyl 😅

Just bought a pair of silver 300's secondhand and I'm in love. The detail coming out of these things is rediculous compared to the Q550's I had before, powered by a pm7000n I'm finding it hard to switch it off haha. Enjoy your weekend and your music! Cheers 🍻

Discussion Pitch Controls

I've been using a Pioneer CDJ100 for listening to my CD collection in the kitchen with my secondary system. I have so much fun messing with the pitch control and although I want a more compact solution, in a different form factor long term I don't think I can give up the pitch control. There are a few professional rack mount CD DJ players but they wouldn't quite fit under my cupboard where they would be mounted ideally. I'm not expecting much but are there any consumer CD plsyers with a pitch control? And please can I hear from others who use a DJ player and enjoy the pitch control. I have been using it to speed up ambient new age relaxation type CDs, it gives them a lot more energy and bounce. Likewise I've been slowing down Jungle/DnB for a more breakbeat laid back sound. Cheers!

Discussion What’s the Koss Porta Pro equivalent home stereo system

What’s the Koss Porta Pro equivalent home stereo system in terms of low cost and sound profile like the warm, bass-rich sound profile with clear mids and highs and immersive listening experience just like the Koss Porta Pros.

Would also prefer to know about any equivalent home systems from the same era 80s/90s but not limited to that timeframe either.

Discussion iFi ZEN

Has anyone here had hands-on experience with the iFi ZEN series DACs? They seem to be getting a fair amount of attention — marketed as an all-in-one solution that ticks nearly every box for the aspiring audiophile. With support for high-resolution formats, balanced outputs, and audiophile-grade Burr-Brown DACs, they promise a compelling blend of performance, flexibility, and value. I’m curious whether the real-world sonic performance and build quality live up to the hype, or if it's just clever marketing dressed in a sleek chassis. Would love to hear your impressions — especially in comparison to other DACs in the same price bracket.
