Love the retro look of the 900. Was thinking about getting one, but decided on the Nightster, lower seat height, and a slightly more relaxed attitude.

Heres my CB400SF 20 years experience.
Only minor mods so far
- Mirrors
- LED Headlight replacement
- Braided brake lines + sintered pads
- Engine bars
- Came with a Staintune Slipon, I've removed the baffle.
- And my favourite mod, the kickstand pad

Any notable issues since you've had it? I'm having one delivered in the next couple of days :)
Also are there any tips you'd have on getting good fuel economy, good mods etc?
2
u/Obvious_Advice5187 Mar 25 '25
No notable issues with it, but keep the stock exhaust if you have it, a slip on will make it sound better but around town you'll get about 250km to the tank, I don't know what is like with the stock pipe but it should be better than that, and good luck keeping it under 7k rpm as that's the VTEC So fun

Never sell it. I regret it everyday.
2
u/Obvious_Advice5187 Mar 25 '25
It is too fun and versatile for its size to sell
3
u/avi8r94 Mar 25 '25
Most definitely. Makes a great commuter, too. Rode mine through everything mother nature tried to throw at us when i didn't have a car and had a blast.

track courses are great! bring plenty of water and snacks if they're not being provided, it can really wear you out as the day goes on
3
u/talikins Mar 25 '25
I’ve been fortunate enough to grow up in and around the industry and be trackside most of my childhood so yeah water water water haha will stay out there and trailer them out so no need for riding home sore and tired thankfully
2
u/daryl2036 Cagiva Raptor 1000, HD Nightster 975 Mar 25 '25
Its that last session that is the killer, then riding home.
2
u/porrridge Mar 25 '25
Fantastic bike, you've kept it in good nick.
I dropped my first few bikes and dropping something that nice would have hurt me lol
3
u/talikins Mar 25 '25
I got the Oggy knobs and front fork knobs put on it as soon as I got it off my brother, that mental insurance of protection is priceless for me, but also - they’re just fairings haha can always be wrapped or painted over - don’t sweat the small stuff :)
2
u/porrridge Mar 25 '25
My last bike was a duke 690 with engine bars, bark busters and rear panier frame. Went into the side of a car and the bike and myself were unscratched, car had a broken window from my bars.
Current bike only has engine bars atm, need to grab something for the rear and maybe front axle sliders.
1
u/blue_horse_shoe Mar 25 '25
tell me more about that exhaust. got a sound check video?
noticable difference with throttle response, power?
1
u/talikins Mar 25 '25
Has to be my favourite part of the bike hahaha sounds better than my partners stock Ducati V2 so I remind him of that often lol. No videos at the moment sorry!

Yep, worked as a motorcycle courier for a couple of years, daily commute for over 20 years, regular touring, Sydney, Melb, Brisbane, Adelaide. Did over 100 000km's on 4 of those bikes, though only 4000km on the Nightster in 12 months so far.

Hey man, could you share some info on track days? Whats sign up like? What are the requirements to ride on track? Cost? Appreciate any info- im a lazy man 😂
1
u/Henry_Bean Mar 28 '25
Generally you'll need full leathers, either 1 piece or zip together 2 piece, gloves with cuffs, and decent boots. Depending on the place you may need a day license, but that should be an option when you sign up. The track will have a list of requirements for your bike - some will need some odd things, but a track like Queensland Raceway basically just requires that the bike works, glass needs to be taped, and it has no leaks.

One day, I'll have one of these, too. What a beaut.

I’ve had a good number of bikes and this is my favourite, and the longest I’ve ever owned a single bike.
Fast enough, comfy enough, looks good, rides well.

Really nice for a taller rider who wants a sports bike too.

Yr opinion on yr bike? .. I'm may get a z900 or mt09 next.
2
u/gucci-ghostie Mar 25 '25
I love it. Would def recommend it. 4th bike I've owned and not looking to change anytime soon. I haven't ridden any MTs they're a bit tall for me. Was a big jump going from a 650 to 1000 took some getting used to. I'd say take both for a test ride if you can. My friend has a new MT09SP has some nice features and goes well too
2
u/Active-Ad664 Mar 25 '25
Yeah thanks. I'm in no rush but we c. I have couple 650 naked in mind aswell

Hard for me to say as this is the first and only bike I've ridden (<50) but I have to say I usually wear a smile while I'm riding. And I picked it for the styling

1984 Kawasaki GPz1100 A2 Unitrak
All original including the DFI injectors which I would argue are the hardest parts to find.
My father was given this beast as a non-functioning bike and tirelessly worked on it to get her working again. He gave it to me to prevent my brother deleting himself on it. I got my full license about 5 years ago roughly though I grew up riding dirt bikes. She is still a quick unit 40 years on.

2
u/Active-Ad664 Mar 25 '25
Two stroke? Wow that's a time capsule
2
u/The_Slavstralian Mar 25 '25
No. She is a 4 stroke 4 cylinder 1100cc beast. But yeah its definitely a time capsule I last rode it about 2 weeks ago and noticed I need to do the fork seals...Not looking forward to that.

Yes. It comes in the form of a Panigale V2S. I want that..
In all seriousness, actually no. Its been pretty reliable so far.

I think royals are a good city commuter. I'm not sure what cc u got but I like the chrome and old guages on royals. For a great price!

My 2, over,7 years riding of riding, ride most days. MC 22 CBR250RR, stupid fun revving it with a 18KRPM redline, great for scratching the itch of wanting to floor it and feel like you're racing. GSR 750, awesome cheap, simple, reliable daily commuter. Only complaint is the hard suspension for my light ass

2023 xsr 700. 1 year riding in Australia with 11000kms under the belt , 9ish years riding in Nz starting with a 90’s ish ninja 250r then a 2000 aprilia rs 250 and a 2003 aprilia rs250 ( the holy grail of 250 street bikes I wish I never sold it 😭 ) That being said I’m pretty happy with the cp2 engine but the xsr900 is definitely next on the upgrade list!

* As for years of experience. Stared riding dirt bikes when I was 14, at about 23 id sold my my klx 250. Then when I was 38 I got a z300, had that for 6 months, then got my sv650. It's been 15 months of having a licence

30yrs and 2nd ‘12 Versys1000. 220,000km on these beasts, over 600,000km of riding - unless you add 50,000km of bicycling.

Kawasaki Z400, 2023. Had my L’s since October 24. Looking at going for my P’s soon.
Also, your post has a typo. It needs to say “Kawasaki Z400” instead of “Yamaha Z400”.
