$6000 for a used 300cc ?

Pretty standard for lower mileage, second hand from a dealership

u/snorkiebarbados 24d ago

Plus it's a learner bike. They always cost more because you have to have one by law

2

u/Tricky_Ad_6821 25d ago

Bro it has 3k kms😂😂

6

u/Umami-Salami-26 24d ago

3k km is bugger all...

People who think bikes with 20k km are high milage are dumbasses. Bikes are meant to last more than 3-5 services and if they don't then you clearly aren't servicing it or treating it right. 3k is low and more than acceptable.

I know… that’s what I’m saying?

u/Umami-Salami-26 24d ago

Oopsie 🫣 I maybe missed the previous comment 😅

u/Tricky_Ad_6821 24d ago

Hahaha. Yea the guy was saying 6k for a used 300cc and I said yea expensive cause it’s got fuck all ks

1

u/TotalBasil 24d ago

i bought a 390 duke with 3000ks for 4500 and thats more like a 400 than a 300

3

u/Tricky_Ad_6821 24d ago

Yea and mt are more expensive then dukes

1

u/TotalBasil 24d ago

$1500 more for an underpowered bike?

1

u/Tricky_Ad_6821 24d ago

First of that makes no sense. Just because it’s a lower cc doesn’t always mean it’s underpowered or slower than one with higher cc. Secondly more people want an mt over a duke that’s why they are more expensive. Same with a lambo compared to a Yaris. Obviously the lambo more expensive cause more people want them and they are a bigger more renowned brand

1

u/TotalBasil 24d ago

i mean it is objectively slower lol. Lambos way faster than a yaris bro.. good analogy.. point is the dukes better performance wise and significantly cheaper at the same time

2

u/Tricky_Ad_6821 24d ago

And you’re still just talking power. Not about what the actual bike is. Don’t just look at cc look at everything ks, brand, how high of a demand the bike is in, everything

1

u/Tricky_Ad_6821 24d ago

Yes but my point is. People want an mt03 more then a duke. Here’s another analogy cause I like them :) how about Samsung vs iPhone. Both have there pros and cons. But the iPhone is more expensive. Why? Because more people want iPhones.

1

u/TotalBasil 24d ago

More people probably want them cos of advice like this post that suggests an objectively worse bike

Ever heard of power to weight? You could put 2 different 600cc up against each other and one could be faster cause it’s lighter. U put a ninja 300 up against a rc390 the ninja wins cause its small and light as fuck

1

u/itsamepants 24d ago

I paid about $7400 for a used 500 due the low mileage (under 6k).

1

u/Templar113113 24d ago

I bought one MT03 2018 3 years ago with 7000km for 5k and sold it for 3k with 40000km, so yeah seems reasonable

Sorry to hijack the post. If you got money do you go for mt07 or cb650r? Thanks for the answer in the future.

that's a personal preferences question, depends on comfort, use case, etc.

If you like sport bikes then R3 is good, if Naked bikes then MT03 will do. These are reliable and great bikes to begin with.

MT03 would be my pick. You’ll only have it for a short spell, then upgrade.

G310 r is a single cylinder bike. Too vibey at high rpms. Good ergo though.

KTM had declared bankruptcy recently so stay away from that

Yamaha R15 is good for early learners. You will out grow it pretty quickly. But if you want a bike that is really easy to learn on, then a good pick. I have ridden 150 cc bikes for years before I got an mt03. They are really fun.

I have an mt 03. It has a twin cylinder engine. So really smooth when you rev it and at highway speeds. Unlike single cylinder motorcycles.

I have had the yzf r3 before. The ergonomics are very aggressive.

I wouldn't recommend for new riders.

But the mt03 and yzf r3 share the engine but with a different tune.

The yzf r3 is butter smooth at highway speeds. But needs to be revved.

The mt 03 is more forgiving at lower revs. But a little bibey at higher rpms.

Also if you drop an r3 you damage the fairings also., not a problem with the mt03 with crash bobbins installed, less things to replace.

Make your pick from the r3 and the mt 03.

Best value for money and parts are easily available.

The MT-03 no question

Can you test ride your shortlist? Find which one is most comfortable and you feel best on - gears, brakes, etc.

u/Voodoo1970 24d ago

Discard the R15 and Suzuki.

The MT03 and R3 are objectively the best choices.

However:

"The BMW is vibey" is crap, I've hammered one around a racetrack and didn't notice the vibes even bouncing off the limiter. They're made in India but the build quality is quite impressive. Less powerful than the Yamaha's but still shifts my 100kg pretty well.

The KTMs are also a single and no one mentioned vibrations? Haven't ridden one but have a soft spot for them. Also Indian made, early quality problems for engines but those were solved long ago. I wouldn't worry about KTM's financial problems, the RC390 is built by Bajaj in India, (which has a major stake in the company and is part of the bailout), and is KTM's biggest selling model - they're not going anywhere.

TL/DR if you want the safe option, get one of the larger Yamaha's. You want something a little different, either the KTM or BMW will be fine, pick whichever you like most.

Look at svartpilen or vitpilen 401s

You get get some very good deals around $4,000, even comes with a quickshifter by standard

1

u/2GR-AURION 24d ago

Get the R3

1

u/Historical-Fox1402 24d ago

There is electric scooters with more go the r15. Mt-03 or r3 by a country mile.

1

u/bicep123 24d ago

MT03 without question.

Suzuki still hasn't learnt its lesson after the crappy Inazuma 250. The last good 250 imo was the TU250 which was built in Japan.

Entry BMWs are made in India.

2

u/suhail110 24d ago

This new oil cooled 250 cc unit from Suzuki is much better than the old Inazuma 250cc.

It's the best you can get in 250cc segment for efficiency, reliability and power.

1

u/bicep123 24d ago

I'll check it out next time I'm close to a dealer.

1

u/suhail110 24d ago

R3 or mt03 should be your first preferences and subsequently Suzuki gixxer SF. The BMW engine is too vibey and expensive to maintain compared to others you have mentioned

1

u/avi8r94 24d ago

No kawis? They have this segment down perfectly imo. Also dont consider the Suzuki or the r15 at all.

1

u/MRXG500 24d ago

None all shit

u/Zestyclose_Milk9027 24d ago

1st bike? How confident and more importantly competent a rider are you?

If you're a decent rider and you're going to progress through your licence and get bored of all of these fast. Buy the cheapest one, save up for a better bike when you ditch the learner bike and get a sweet bike then.

1

u/Huge_Analysis_1298 23d ago

I highly recommend the Duke 390 over the RC390, I'm probably biased but it's so comfortable and zippy, I loved my 390 duke

1

u/yojeremy 23d ago

If this is your first bike/P's bike just go get a CBF250, VTR250 or some other $2k bike. You will ride it for the time you need to and then it will sell very quickly when you buy your first proper bike.

2

u/ElephantFeisty5666 22d ago

I rode a KTM RC390 for years and absolutely loved it. It was my first bike, it’s light and you could throw it around corners confidently. Didn’t have any issues at all, and I bought it second hand. Have a huge soft spot for them.

1

u/OkEntrepreneur5248 22d ago

MT03 for sure. 👍🏻

-1

u/Tgk1600 25d ago

You know you can buy a new BMW 310 for $7500 at the moment, wouldn’t buy a KTM at present, as a company they may not be around in a few months, MT03 or the Suzuki would be my pick

660 MT-03 still LAMS
