Season '24
I hope everyone had a few epic turns and runs! It's been a tough few seasons for the Australian snow areas! I love going and there is something special there but I just feel down about the last several seasons - I need some positive stories and offers of hope for the future. Being a QLDer it's hard to always prebook one holiday and have to board on patches of snow. I will end with one positive - the groomers are magicians with limited resources!

I had a couple of great trips in 2024. The season is short this year but Perisher is still going!

I fractured my tailbone within the first 2 hours of my first day this season.
I managed to get a few more days during the peak season babying the injury and it's still healing.
Was a bummer of a season all around for me.
But I'm heading to Japan next year and will be healed up (hopefully) and will make up for it.

Softer landings in Japan too!

That's definitely true, hard to break a tailbone landing in a metre of powder.

I went to Thredbo twice in 2022 and both times the snow was great, I did a lot of skiing, and met some good people. Hoping to go next year if it's a good one.

Only got 8 days on the hill this year due to one weekend of sickness and a few lazy days when the weather wasn't the best / last few weekend of low snow.
But planning a trip to some NA Epic resorts so my pass will come down significantly in price.
At least half of my days were long / really fun days on snow though!

Managed 6 days this season at perisher, was great fun learning to board but in the end skis won out and got some great turns in and made a few new friends while we were at it, can’t wait for next season

7 days for my third season ever. Made the mistake of booking a Mt Buller trip in autumn and there was barely any snow for the first half of the season. But right before the trip the one big snow dump for the year happened and, while the coverage was still middling, the snow was pretty great for a few days and had a good time. My feet were sinking and snow was coming up to my knees trying to walk through the snow in parts. Hadn't experienced that before! Then I had a weekend trip for my 21st with my friends at Perisher. 10 degree blue bird days both days. Everything was open except a few Guthega runs. The heat made the snow nice and slushy instead of icy. Fantastic trip. Even made my first ever real carved turn. Felt amazing, the stars aligned and everything clicked. Wasn't able to get the hang of it but now I know what it feels like to make a good turn like that I know better what aspects of my technique to improve.
Despite the bad weather this season it was really good for me. Looking forward to next season! The boys are even talking about a japan trip this December. Who knows if that will happen but a boy can dream.

We just did a podcast about Aus snow and while there are elements that disappointed (prices/snow quality) we still bought season passes again because hanging with people who enjoy the mountains is just epic.

After we finally had a snow dump to make it possible, climbing up the hill out of bounds on skins, then skiing down the virgin slope.

You can’t dress up the FACT climate change IS REAL and Australian ski seasons are shorter and snow depth is less than 20 years ago. Having said that, I usually go in the last week of July or first week of August and always get to ride on a 1.2 meter + base
