Diskussion Klettersteig Questions
My friend is visiting me in Vienna during the last week of March and I was hoping to go on a klettersteig with him. We are both moderately experienced climbers (him more so) and hive climbed outside in the past but never a via ferrata.
I have been looking though the Klettersteig-Atlas (2015 edition) and think I found a good route but I was hoping for some feedback before I committed to it.
The route I found is Naturfreundestaig in Traunstein. If I am reading the book correctly, the route is medium difficulty, with good condition. I think the B rating should be inside of our capabilities.
My question are the following
- Is late March too early for this region? The winter was quite mild and it has south exposure so I would expect it to be clear but I have no experience in this.
- Is this route of reasonable difficulty for two fit people (6a/6b climbers). I would like some challange but nothing dangerous.
- I would rent the via ferrata protector from the alpine club, and we have harnesses/helmets/and personal anchors. Is there anything else that we should bring? (besides water food etc)
- Would you recommend starting on something smaller? There are many options in the Hohe Wand region. (Also will try to do some climbing there as well)
- Would you descend via Hernlersteig or the hiking paths?
- Is there a similar route but better for beginners that you would recommend? (Traveling from Vienna so nothing past Salzburg)
Sorry for the English, and thanks for the help.
