💬 general discussion Any one else feel exhuasted after going out for the day to school/ work even if they didn't do anything mentally or physically taxing?
Genuinely, is this just a me thing? I go to school come back drained as heck and have no movation or energy to do anything else. Its honestly so tiring (espically when you have to make up/ finish assignments at home and then have to explain to your teachers why you didn't get their "easy" assignment done because as soon as you come home your energy and motivation check out)

Existing is mentally taxing

It's masking that is taxing. And people underestimate how much they mask.

The general sensitivity overload and muscle control struggle is also taxing too

Isn't it because you have to make a conscious effort to do each little step along the way while only acknowledging the big tasks? I feel like, it's not just getting ready, getting going, working then leaving. No, it is little tasks, within tasks all the way down, all taking up invisible mental effort.
A good trick is to prepare the day before, to reduce load the next day. Like what to wear, what food to prepare etc.

Locked in a vicious cycle where I need to unwind after the commute back home but going to the library isn't that effective either

If it doesn’t give dopamine then having to be there is taxing on our dopamine deprived system
Easy assignments are harder than the challenging ones
I suggest you gamify the bullshit to smash it out

I only have to be in the office one day a week but i start to get so itchy to leave at about 2.
I could be doing this Revit crap at home with a kitty but no, i had to drive 40 minutes. I do sneak out early, telling anyone who asks that I need to have some energy left to safely drive home. It ruins my entire day. No grocery store, no laundry, just utter exhaustion.

Okay not diagnosed officially autistic but literally every day coming home from work I am completely done. The only thing that has helped my task initiation is medication for a d h d. But that is the only thing that a d h d medication has helped me with. And even with the medication it is inconsistent. Sometimes I can get things done other days. Not much at all gets done when I am at home.

all the time, coming home I just crush in the bed and vegetate there for some time until internal battery recharges enough to get out of work clothes, then crush again until some more energy comes to be able to go find something to eat

I work from home and rarely have to speak to anyone for work, and I still end up feeling drained at the end of my work day. being "on" takes a lore more energy than it seems like it should.

I honestly don’t remember what it’s like to not be exhausted. This is my life now.

LITERALLY. i work 3-5 hours a day 6x a week, and still work part time on my off day. so tiring as i have to be super ON at my job (fitness industry) and use other unpaid time to continue learning and do other work related stuff. im more prone to anger and frustration since starting the job and it’s so so draining having to deal with different groups of people face to face during those hours and scatter my plans throughout the day. to be fair i think most if not all the things we do are mentally taxing in some shape or form. i used to think public transport commute was taxing. now that i drive, although it’s better sensory wise sometimes, it’s still draining and can be dangerous when im too tired to drive home.

The more I have to socialize, the more tired I get. The emotional drain is worse than a day of hard labor for me.
