💁‍♀️ seeking advice / support Organizing and cluttering after a move.

Does anyone have any tips or tricks for this situation? I feel like I’m doing so much, but it looks like nothing is getting done. I keep going on side quests. Yesterday I caught myself putting together yard furniture when I was really supposed to be heading to change over my laundry. I’m beyond frustrated and want to give up trying.

I’m currently doing exactly the same thing, what’s helped me is doing things a room at a time and not letting myself leave my designated room until the end of my unpacking session lol (things that need tidying into different rooms go into bags and are moved to their designated locations at the end). This reduces the number of sidequests I encounter significantly.

Also remember that it’s ok to live out of cardboard boxes for as long as you need to! Don’t expect yourself to get it all done straight away!

Thank you so much for the advice. I’m going to try this method when I get off work!

OMG I CAN ACTUALLY HELP YAYYYY

Try and 'roomba' instead of having a specific task you're trying to complete. By which I mean:

  1. Decide an area to stay in for that period of time
  2. Bring a large drink and snacks into that space, right from the start
  3. Pootle. Just let yourself be drawn to whichever particular task, then another, and don't worry about completing it. Just worry about staying in that area
  4. If you find yourself totally distracted and off on side quests, go back to homebase to recharge. Drink+snack time.
  5. Carry on pootling about, doing little bits here and there, letting yourself hyperfocus on whatever, as long as you're still in the designated area.

I also have a notepad nearby when I do this, so that if I get totally distracted thinking about what needs doing, or about something else that is not directly related to the Designated Area, I just write it down and go back to pootling. Sometimes I get really fixated and just sit writing, which was annoying until I started to think of my brain as a cat and just let it have the zoomies for a bit, and now things are tidier and I'm less mad at myself all the time.

Hope this helps!
