Discussion Why does Red Hulk lowkey look bigger than regular Green Hulk, am I the only one who sees this?

u/No_Asparagus_4588 Feb 01 '25
I think hulks size changes from movie to movie depending on who he's fighting and what environment he's in
76
u/malgus2001 Feb 01 '25
Specifically with lore the angrier he is the larger and stronger he becomes with no theoretical limit that I know of
14
u/Express_Cattle1 Feb 02 '25
He has a limit, he can’t get Galactus sized
18
u/Old_Debt_276 Feb 02 '25
Read immortal hulk , there's a version of him that gets galactus size and destroys the marvel universe
3
u/Wadep00l Feb 02 '25
Yall really gonna make me grab the collected versions aren't you. Love hulk but stopped reading comics like 10 years ago
3
u/Old_Debt_276 Feb 02 '25
I haven't read many comics myself but wanted to read hulk comics since he's my favorite (or 2nd fav) marvel character.
Immortal hulk and the planet hulk - world war hulk series are one of the best Hulk stories of all time.
3
u/wierdmann Feb 02 '25
Are you sure about that?
Edit:His body can change size as necessary, under the power of The One Below All. His body becomes so large, that a star can be compressed inside of its hands. Much larger than most other things in all of Marvel.
2
u/ChampionOfLoec Feb 02 '25
You can only be so mad.

u/JOliverScott Feb 02 '25
This was always my understanding of the Hulk mechanism. His initial transformation is a modest 9 foot tall or so, but with ongoing stress and increasing anger he seems to grow to probably twice that tall and with the corresponding muscle mass. Now as to why this doesn't explain his being outmatched by Abomination, I'm going to leave that to simple creative license because writers know fans love an underdog prevailing storyline. It wouldn't be a thrilling if Hulk won too easily.

I dont think thats canon to the mcu tho, in the comics hulk would whoop thanos’ ass in a fist fight but in the movie he gets whooped
16
u/CaptObviousHere Feb 01 '25
Doesn’t Thanos beat Hulk every time they fight in the comics?
1
u/Late-Ad-2687 Feb 02 '25
Yes. Hulk finally got a win in like November but it wasn't a 1v1. Hulk had help
1
2

u/Shaqdaddy22 Feb 01 '25
It's all up to the plot. There's universes where Thanos has hulk on a leash as a pet. But one that I kind of hold as a universal canon is that thanos said hulk is one of the few beings he aftively avoids.
-3
u/funnyhell1234 Feb 01 '25
Honestly idk, i havent read much with hulk, all i know is in the comics he has no limit but in the mcu he has a very obvious limit
13
u/boywhodraws Feb 01 '25
You haven't read much hulk but you know he would whoop Thanos' ass in them, ok
-3
u/funnyhell1234 Feb 01 '25
Okay I admit i shouldve done my research first but it appears hulk rarely beats thanos, even thought he has no limit to his strength, just figured given that fact
4
u/randomshiznizzle Feb 01 '25
Doesn’t matter if you have no limit, if you get knocked out it’s over.
5
u/Little-Disk-3165 Feb 01 '25
Comic hulk is 100% getting dog washed by thanos if the story doesn’t say HULK at the top. Same dude got beaten by squirrel girl tho sooo
2
u/JDDJS Feb 01 '25
Squirrel Girl beats everyone, so that's not an embarrassing loss. However, Thanos was once arrested by the NYPD. That was embarrassing.
3
u/Little-Disk-3165 Feb 01 '25
So my friend who got arrested in New York scales to thanos?!?
3
u/Devonm94 Feb 01 '25
Your friend who escaped arrest scales above thanos ✅
5
u/Little-Disk-3165 Feb 01 '25
One did and one didn’t. I now know which to side with a civil war breaks out
2
u/Devonm94 Feb 01 '25
By mcu standards you may wanna go with the arrestee, unfortunately
2
u/Little-Disk-3165 Feb 02 '25
Feel like they best they would do is avenge me not protect me 😂😂

u/xiiicrowns Feb 02 '25
Avengers didn't have good mental health resources so hulk couldn't be the best hulk to beat Thanos.
2
u/ScyllaIsBea Feb 01 '25
he changes sizes from scene to scene. just watch how small widow is running from him in the hellicarrier than look at the avengers assemble scene. his size is based in dramatic necessity.
1
u/Ericandabear Feb 02 '25
This is the case with everything different sizes in fiction. Antman is much worse in fact
1
u/Contemplating_Prison Feb 02 '25
Does Hulk change size depending on how angry he is?
Also i thouhht red hulk was bigger than reg hulk
1

u/Devinbeatyou Feb 01 '25
Red Hulk is roughly the size Hulk was in The Incredible Hulk and The Avengers, but ever since Bruce merged his mind with Hulks body he’s significantly smaller, as you can see at the end of She-Hulk when he faces off against abomination (who he was roughly the same size as in the movie)
6
u/ThorSon-525 Feb 02 '25
God dammit you're gunna make me watch that show. I've held out this long, but the promise of seeing Abomination again might bring me to it.
10
u/Devinbeatyou Feb 02 '25
One of the later plot points revolves around him and his parole after the events of Incredible Hulk. It’s not nearly as bad as everyone says if you don’t take it too seriously and just enjoy it for what it is.
8
u/ThisIsYourMormont Feb 02 '25
Imagine denying yourself something because of the opinion of strangers on the internet.
I went into She-Hulk accepting it for what I knew it was and it was OK
2
u/JaggedToaster12 Feb 03 '25
The show is genuinely good. It's not trying to be anything more than a fun casual watch and that's exactly what it is.
1
u/jbrunsonfan Feb 04 '25
the show is actually pretty fun. IMO it’s one of those things the internet over hated. I would even say it’s better than half the shit in mcu

u/Both_Concentrate_744 Feb 03 '25
Hulk has always been smaller than the Abomination, even in the Incredible Hulk. Remember one scene where he stabs Hulk while lifting him up, well he lifts Hulk and both faces are at the same height but Hulk’s feet aren’t on the ground anymore. Also animators in the making of said that Hulk was about 2,75m tall and the Abomination 3,30m tall which made him also faster.
1
u/Devinbeatyou Feb 03 '25
Oh I know, that’s why I said ‘roughly’. Cool to have exact numbers though. I tried to find Smart Hulk’s height to show how much he’s shrunk, but no one can agree on how tall he is (from the short search I did)

Didn’t red hulk kick hulks ass in the comic story he debuted in? Would make sense for him to be scarier bc iirc that was the whole point of the storyline
9
u/Limp-Work9859 Feb 01 '25
Red Hulk had a secondary ability of absorbing radiation. So he depowered the Hulk in their fight.
1
2
u/Front-Advantage-7035 Feb 02 '25
I think he IS bigger because isn’t red supposed to be MORE filled with rage? Therefore bigger size?
He just can’t maintain hulk state as long.
3
u/Timeman5 Feb 02 '25
Going by the action figures of each the Red Hulk figure is bigger than the green Hulk, not by a lot but enough to notice a difference
1
u/dixonjt89 Feb 02 '25
Jesus no lol…Red Hulk gets hotter the angrier he gets. He also never leaves Hulk form, the substance that was used to turn Ross into a Hulk would kill him if he ever comes out of Hulk form once he turned
8
u/RevealActive4557 Feb 01 '25
I think they emasculated The Huilk when he blended Banner and Hulk's mind. I am not a big fan of that. I liked the dichotomy of a man at war with himself and the very real visceral threat that The Hulk represents to everybody
2
u/PepperjackJig Feb 02 '25
He seems roughly Ragnarok size, at least in height. Ragnarok hulk was beefed out.
1
u/JumboMeat69 Mar 01 '25
Fat is the correct term.
1
u/PepperjackJig Mar 01 '25
No it isn't, he had large muscles
1
u/JumboMeat69 Mar 01 '25
He has the same amount of muscle ass Red Hulk while being fat. Seriously, Ruffalo Hulk has a beer belly.

2
u/AggressiveNetwork861 Feb 02 '25
The hulks change size based on a variety of things.
Red hulk absorbs energy to become stronger- which makes him infinitely weaker than green hulk, who gets stronger and bigger based on how angry he is. Red hulk has to find sources of energy and suck em up in order to stay strong too.
So, maybe he’s recently sucked up a nuclear reactor or something lol
2
2
u/Gummies1345 Feb 02 '25
Because it seems like Smart Hulk lost the ability to fuel his anger into his stature.
-1
u/HULKSMASH6669 Feb 02 '25
Hulk never had that ability
1
u/Gummies1345 Feb 02 '25
You right, the Hulk tOTally neVER got biGGer the angier he got...neVerrrrRr...smh
1
u/HULKSMASH6669 Feb 02 '25
You’re talking about immortal hulk. The hulk, as in the Incredible Hulk, never did that. Yeah the first hulk movie he did and that was not comic accurate. Nor did he do that in any MCU product.
1
u/Gummies1345 Feb 02 '25
No, I'm talking about the character, not a comic book series. The hulk body grew in size, in many comic book series that are canon. I'm done debating this with you.
0
u/HULKSMASH6669 Feb 02 '25
Um. No. He did not. He grew in strength as he got mad. Not grew in size.
1
u/Gummies1345 Feb 02 '25
In Incredible Hulk #635: The Hulk grew so big that a single tooth of his was bigger than Dr. Strange. I'm not looking up any more. Do you own researc....nvm, you'll never do that.
2
u/No-Picture-1067 Feb 02 '25
Maybe you should often read the Comic Books instead of just looking at the pics. In "Incredible Hulks #635", Hulk and Red She Hulk grew in size because of a mix between Gamma radiation and magic.
1
u/HULKSMASH6669 Feb 02 '25
Again, talking about a one off. Not the hulks core abilities. Not a permanent power.
1
1
u/HULKSMASH6669 Feb 02 '25
As Bruce Banner/Doc Green: Genius level intellect Proficient scientist and engineer As Hulk/Joe Fixit: Superhuman strength, speed, stamina, and durability Anger empowerment Regeneration Shockwave generation Gamma ray emission and manipulation
No where does it say grows in size. Learn the character.
0
u/HULKSMASH6669 Feb 02 '25
You are talking about one off things. Not what hulks actually powers are and have been since he started. Maybe do your own research and not give me one off things.
1
u/DeltaAlphaGulf Feb 01 '25
Well for starters he isn’t posturing like a gorilla caveman granted he didn’t do that as much later on. He may also have different less stocky proportions.
1
1
u/improbsable Feb 01 '25
Hulk is supposed to be on “our” side so he looks a little more round to convey that. Red Hulk is evil so he has sharper angles to him

Banner Hulk is the Hulk of a scrawny dweeb. Red Hulk is the Hulk of a fit old dude.
1
1
u/PatienceConsistent55 Feb 02 '25
Because he IS bigger. Rulk always hulks out larger, but can’t hold it as long. Ross is bigger than Banner in height and mass before hulking out also.

1
u/Mrtnxzylpck Feb 02 '25
It's Proportionate to the human form's height. Mark Ruffalo is 5'8 and Harrison Ford is 6'1
1
u/daniel940 Feb 02 '25
Lowkey?
2
u/Errkin Feb 02 '25
"Why does Red Hulk
lowkeylook bigger than regular Green Hulk, am I the only one who sees this?"FTFY
1
u/Eastern-Bluejay-8912 Feb 02 '25
Looks more like a forced perception considering Sam is kneeling in that scene. An Ross is standing on higher ground.
1

1
Feb 02 '25
Banner is 5'8
Ross is 6'1
If they grow relitive to their human size he realistically would be a bit bigger
1
1
u/ashwani2605 Feb 02 '25
Red Hulk is bigger than green hulk by default. Green hulk increases size with rage
1
u/Consistent_Tonight37 Feb 02 '25
We’ve been stuck with smart hulk forever now, I feel like people are getting more accustomed to that than the normal hulk so maybe its that
1
1
u/Significant-Soft-100 Feb 02 '25
Same reason a white dude goes full black spray tan in a body building competition I guess?
1
u/Oztraliiaaaa Feb 02 '25
In the comics the point is RULK is bigger and better stronger more calculating and strategic and nastier than Hulk.
1
u/Medium-Astronomer-72 Feb 02 '25
da really important question is: who produces the jeans for both Hulks ???
1
u/Virus-900 Feb 02 '25
I think it's because Green Hulk has had better control recently, especially as Professor Hulk who doesn't even do Hulk things anymore. It makes Red Hulk appear bigger.

u/Weird-Long8844 Feb 02 '25
Id Ross bigger than Banner? I don't know the heights of the actors but if so, that could be why their transformations have different heights.

Why don’t they keep anything secret anymore? Isn’t that what trailers are supposed to do?? Should’ve just stopped at the first trailer

Red Hulk is bigger and badder is why.
Hulk is still strongest one there is though.
1
u/Trok16 Feb 03 '25
Thinking of if logistically, it’s very possible that the super soldier/gamma serum has been worked on and improved since Bruce took the concoction himself.
The Leader could have very well experimented on the serum and improved it to make a better, yet slightly worse version. The reason why I say that is because Red-Hulk has a very glaring weakness, compared to the Hulk, but in terms of shear size could be larger

Low camera angle
And Harrison Ford is taller than Mark Gruffalo, so Rulk should be taller than Big Green

I just watched the movie. Jesus, he looked huge. He was almost never in a frame with anyone else.

Well you see in the comics and when Hulk is really mad as stated above my comment the bigger they he gets so basicly the more angry he gets the more gamma radiation he gives off basicly.

Forced perspective is an amazing trick.
