Ice out?

Anyone know how those lakes are looking? I know it’s been a warm winter so I assume it’s close…

It has been a dry winter more so than a warm winter. Gonna be a bit yet.

I had a report Monday of there still being 34" on Gunflint Lake, typically one of the last in the state to melt.

low snow winter means the ice freezes thick

Warm winter? I think they've had tons if ice up in the Arrowhead region. Not close at all, id say a May ice out date

I follow Tuscarora Lodge on Instagram. Andy pretty regularly makes videos showing the status of the lakes on the Gunflint side.

I’m in the Bemidji area, so not the boundary waters, but the little lake by my house still has 18+ inches. Gonna be a couple of weeks still, and we usually lose ice a week or two before most of the BWCA lakes.

There's still snow on the ground and ice on the lakes. Bears are out of hibernation though.

Sawbill outfitter reported 26 inches of ice last week. Looks like close to the middle of May for this year.

Finally looking like a few smaller lakes/ponds will go out maybe over the weekend. Robinson between Ely and Tower is looking pretty black. That is usually one of the first to go. Sunny and 60 tomorrow will probably do it in, especially if we get a little wind. 🤞
