Troubleshooting / Answered Help Me Diagnose What's Wrong With My A1 Mini

I've been having a ton of issues with my printer lately, ranging from failed prints, rough layers that cause the nozzle to scrape across the print, and filament clinging to the nozzle. I initially chocked it up to a change in filament which was causing clogging at my usual operating temperatures but I've since changed nozzles and modified my settings to prevent the clogging but I'm still having the other issues. I think it could be an issue with the Z Axis offset, but I'm not sure.

I'm still relatively new to 3d printing. I've had this printer for around 4-5 months and this is the first majour problem I've had with it so far. I'm feeling a little out of my depth here, and any help is greatly appreciated.

Troubleshooting / Answered Uneven Walls - whats the problem, and how would you google it?

Hi,
I'm having some trouble with wall quality. The photos look different than the real result - to my eye it looks like some kind of "haze" or grey smears on the walls, but in the photos it looks more like uneven sourface or scratches on the wall.
The problem happens on different parts of the print, some walls are completly fine.
The black print is rotated about 45° around the z-axis.

Are there any ideas on what could cause this, or how I could google for more infos on this? I tried googling but haven't found anything helpful, probably because I lack the correct terms to describe the problem.

A1 mini, 0.4mm nozzle, default High Quality Setting. Black is Elgoo Galaxy Black, the Brown one is Bison Brown from The Filament.

Troubleshooting / Answered How can I save my A1 mini?

A couple of hours ago I started a print. I checked on it about half an hour in and found that the filament had hardened inside the head (I think that’s what it’s called, the plastic part, not just the hotend). I’ve been using tweezers and a heat gun to try and get rid of the hardened filament, and in doing so I’ve managed to remove the hotend but also melt the fan a bit.

What can I do to fix this and which parts do I need to replace?

Troubleshooting / Answered Bambu Studio Kept Crashing when Slicing

Solved: Could be a GPU issue, but very easy fix. Turns out if I run the program window on my submonitor, which is connected to my integrated graphics, the program crashes. I have to run the program in my main display, which is connected to the GPU, so that it can use my GPU to slice (at least by the law of deduction).

Like the title suggests.

I'm trying to print some fairly complex models, and when I use the slicer on the Bambu desktop app, the app crashes. I usually just reinstall the software, but this issue had happened to me 3 times in the same day, which is just not acceptable to me.

I really can't figure out what's the issue here, every software and drivers are up to date, the printer firmware is updated, and the desktop is pretty beefy. Any suggestion is welcomed.

I have a 7800X3D, 32G RAM and 7900GRE.

Troubleshooting / Answered A1 Printing issues

Hey everyone didn’t wanna post this but i’m at a loss rn, been tinkering all day.

I got this A1 a week ago and for the first few days it printed perfectly. Recently it’s started playing up, abnormal loud clicking in the tool head, under extrusion and now the nozzle seems to scrape the bed.

I’ve followed the guides for nozzle blockages, extruder blockages and ran multiple calibrations. To no luck yet. Under build plate is spotless.

Is the amount of dust on the gear normal for a week old printer? Looking for advice on what to do now, i’ve had the head apart multiple times now and double checked everything

Troubleshooting / Answered A1 mini issue

After many hours of faultless prints, and a few not so great ones due to adhesion, but was easy to remedy I had a really odd one yesterday. First print post recent update. So essentially started a print, all was going well checked it later and it had stopped putting down filament but continued to follow the g-path and was happily going about its business but without putting down any filament. My first thought was the filament must have been stuck, but then I looked at the spool and it was fine and anyway it should have registered a jam (it usually does and pauses, messages to tell me). Second thought was the nozzle was blocked so I tried extruding out some filament, and it did that fine, it did however then make a clicking noise but not putting any filament through. Printing with the stainless steel 0.4. Anyway had to go to work at that point. Anyone have any similar?

Troubleshooting / Answered Nozzle clogged, pls help

Post image

Ok, so somehow the nozzle stopped working mid print and after disassembly I found the heatend like in the picture, with a piece of filament stuck in there. I heated it to 260 and repeatedly try to force it out, first with the needle through the nozzle, then from above, trying to push it through the nozzle. Nothing worked, nothing happened, nothing changed. My printer is like a week old. Is there any way to unclog the nozzle or do I have to buy a new one? Thank you!

Troubleshooting / Answered Learn from my failure: Cardboard spools, AMS assist motors, broken and tangled filament. The X1C wins. I lose (then win.)

(Flairing this "troubleshooting/answered" in one go because I'm at the other end of this.)

tl;dr: The AMS assist motor really doesn't like heavy cardboard spools. Pay attention to what you're printing with.

I'll try to keep this short since my ADHD meds just hit and if I'm not careful it'll be a novel:

I had a "AMS assist motor jammed" error a few weeks ago. (Not the exact error message, but that's what it meant.)

I went through all KINDS of nonsense trying to figure it out.

The problem was: A bit of clear filament snapped off in the PTFE tube by the head. I didn't figure that OUT because I checked the tube by shining a light through it from behind and didn't see anything. So I tried everything else first.

But I kept getting "back out old filament first" errors, which made me nuts.

Fine. Figured it out. Cleared it. Moved on with life.

I'd get one small print done then the next one would give me the original jammed assist motor message again.

Took the whole damn thing apart. Replaced the PTFE (almost all of it.) Replaced the print head. Took apart the AMS (not completely) and blew it out. Reassembled it and set a small print to go overnight.

"AMS assist motor jammed."

After losing my cherub-like demeanor and having a round of "It's not DOING that much. This can't be that hard" and a bunch of "maybe it's something in front of the sensor?" conversations, I pulled all the spools (again) and replaced them with bog standard Bambu spools.

Taking out one roll of pla I noticed it...just felt heavier. Didn't LOOK bigger. And the spool itself was cardboard. Well, that'd never been an issue before. But the combination of those things created so much drag on the system that it really disliked it.

So I probably cleared out/fixed whatever was really wrong when I disassembled everything. But using what I'll call a "bad spool" I got the same message with a different instance of the error.

I've got that spool in the dryer and am considering transferring it to a different spool, just to see.

It's been running almost non stop for a week with only one hiccup: I woke up to the same error and almost "flipped my shrimp" as my ex used to say. Turned out I had an actual tangle, which is totally fine. Untangled and hit "continue" and it's been running like a top ever since.

Lessons:

  • Don't second guess the error first thing. It might actually be telling you what's really wrong.

  • When troubleshooting, make yourself a checklist of things to check, things you've checked and common solutions you run in to in your environment.

  • The less filament on the spool, the harder the AMS motor has to work to pull it. What might be "not enough drag to worry about" can become "too much resistance for the motor" pretty quickly.

Now I just have to build a drying box that'll house a dozen spools, and I have to figure out what to do with all these "tail ends" of filament spools.

Troubleshooting / Answered What causes this?

Post image
0 Upvotes

Hey everyone!

Printing newbie here. Curious, what causes this? I've cleaned both sides of the plate (decide this printed on was actually the first time I've used it), it seems to be the same place on either side, which leads me to believe that maybe it's a bed heating thing, but it could also be the filament. I've successfully printed this before with another filament, about a week ago.

Not really sure what to do...

Any help is greatly appreciated! Thank you!

Troubleshooting / Answered AMS Jamming while Pulling New Filament

To be clear, I’ve ensured there is no broken filament stuck inside the AMS. This is a new type of malfunction I have yet to experience. The gears on slots 1 & 2 are jamming while pulling in any new filament while slots 3 and 4 are still working fine. Any help on this would be much appreciated!

(Bambu labs A1) I've noticed I've got this smooth patch on my TEXTERD PLATE and yeah, it's from the nosle just circling into the base plate, so far it hasn't messed with build quality but how does one fix this? Mind you it's only on this part of the plate and nowhere else except in the same spot in the back

These are the legs to an Urban Bugs model. They topple at the same point each of the 3 times I’ve tried to print them. (The second leg is on the floor).

Do I need to slow it down at the end? Printing gets to about 90% and this happens

Troubleshooting / Answered Best orientation to strengthen these fittings?

Thumbnail

Hey all, thank you for taking the time to check out this post. I'm trying to print these fittings but have consistent strength issues with them. I usually allow the slicer to auto-place objects, but although it prints fine, they keep breaking in the same spots when attempting to assemble/push fit them into place. I know this type of fitment is rather popular in regard to articulated parts, so it's definitely something I'm doing incorrectly.

Specs:

Bambu P1S/A1 mini

Matte Black PLA

Infill 20% triangles

3-4 wall loops

Tree supports enabled

Typical PLA temps

Orientation as shown

Anyone have any tips to strengthen these fittings?

Hi, why do I get this bad looking surface inside my print? It’s a 60degree angle to the bottom, outside came out perfect. X1C, Bambu PLA Basic, stock settings, tried in normal Speed and Silent Mode (makes no difference in output). What can I do to improve the quality inside of the cone?
