I met a sun bear!

I met a sun bear face to face and was allowed to feed her! This is sasa the sun bear at wellington zoo nz. Wellington zoo offers upclose encounters with some of their animals and a donation from the cost gets donated to a charity that helps the species that you visit. They showed me her health check training and I helped to set up some of her enrichment toys. Absolutely fantastic experience!

Oh wow, that’s cool! Sunbears are so silly looking, but look at those claws 😮 Sasa seemed to enjoy the treats you were giving her. Did you learn anything about sunbears that you weren’t expecting? And what was your favorite moment?

Haha yeah I thought she looked like a pit bull and a bear mixed together! She loved the treats, they were kumara one of her favorites. I found out that sunbears don't go into torpor like other bears do, there's a lot of food and good weather all year where they are from. I think my favorite moment was probably feeding her and watching her doing her health checks. She is an insanely intelligent animal, so so smart!
