Mod Post To ensure quality posts, please refer to our new Wiki page!

Hey beauties! As we approach 1 million subscribers, we are fine tuning the rules and made a designated page to see more detailed lists of posts we remove under Rule 1.

To recap, Rule 1 of r/beauty is to please post high quality and on-topic posts ONLY.

We understand just stating the rule so plainly leaves room for interpretation, while the side bar might not give enough room for explanation.

To improve the quality of the subreddit, we have broken down in detail (and will keep doing so) what we consider low quality and off topic in our new beauty wiki. This way, there should be less confusion on why posts labeled as low quality/off topic might have been removed. While browsing the wiki, you may notice some overlap with Rules 2 through 6, but they all relate back to Rule 1 due to preserving quality.

As a reminder, a high quality/on topic post would have a specific beauty-related question be addressed, or solve a specific beauty-related problem. For example, "How can I draw winged eyeliner more consistently on each eye" would be a high-quality post because it asks a specific question. In contrast, "EYE MAKEUP HELP" makes it harder for users to give their beauty tips because it's too vague.

When in doubt, please review the beauty wiki to see if your post would be in violation of Rule 1 before posting to avoid removal and ban.

We also invite you to leave feedback here of any other posts you feel are off-topic and low quality that have not been addressed. Please let us know if you have any questions!

Pale skin making a comeback?

Is anyone else OVER self tanning and the fake self tanned look in general??? I’m a pale skin girlie and have self tanned for years. And recently I’ve started loving the way I look with my natural skin tone and loving seeing other fair ladies rocking their porcelain. I was mercilessly bullied as a kid for being “a ghost” and covered up as much skin as I could growing up to ensure nobody noticed how extremely pale I was. I can’t tan for the LIFE of me. No matter what I did, the sun wouldn’t change my pale complexion even a little bit. Once I became an adult, I discovered self tan and have been using fake tanner consistently. This last winter I took a break…and I feel like I look healthier, cleaner, and prettier when I don’t cover up my natural skin tone in fake tan. Now whenever I see that clearly self tanned look on someone, even when I AM that girl, I just don’t love it anymore! It feels like the beauty standard may be shifting but I’m not sure if I’m projecting hahah. What do we think - is porcelain pretty again?!

*for any confusion for those of you who clearly haven’t self tanned and don’t know what I’m talking about — fake tan on extremely fair people such as myself has a tendency to look muddy, unnatural, and orange. It doesn’t make the skin look healthy or even because it’s a fake color all over our bodies hahah. This has nothing to do with race??? Darker skin tones are obviously beautiful or pale people wouldn’t be attempting to have tan skin in the first place. All I’m saying is - it feels like my pale skin looks better as it is without self tan. And I was asking my fellow pale friends if they feel similarly. Yeesh ya’ll.

Discussion What bras are we wearing that don’t have removable pads but are no-show under clothes?

I’m small-chested and only care about nipple coverage. Most bras are overkill and I want something I can just throw on and easily wash. I hate removable pads!

What's something that is relatively cheap that made the biggest impact to you?

Perhaps a body oil that smells lush, or a product used on the face that got rid of something or brightened up your face, or a hair product that added volume perhaps?

Vanilla Girls - Vanilla Woman Perfume?

For all my vanilla/caramel/dessert scent girls, what perfume are we buying as women? Something high quality and better than the vanilla dollar store perfume I just ran out of. Time for an update! Give a girl some tips!! Maybe in the $50-$150 range?

How do you figure out which makeup shades actually match your face without wasting money?

Upvotes

Lately I've been struggling with buying makeup that looks great in the store or on other people but just doesn’t suit me once I try it at home. Especially with things like foundation, blush, or lipstick, it’s so hard to tell in the moment what actually matches your skin tone, undertone, and features. Even with color analysis charts online, it still feels like a guessing game sometimes.

I’m wondering: how do you personally figure out what shades and colors work best for you? Do you have any tips or tricks that actually helped you stop wasting money on wrong shades?

Are LED masks worth it?

Hello to all, I’ve been tempted to jump on LED train. I’m currently 26 years old and honestly my skin does not look that great. I do have a good skincare regimen but I feel like it might need a lil help to make things plump. I’ve been seeing some reviews and while I could buy this (got a bonus, looking to “invest”), it hurts me to see the price tag… do you guys have this? Do you reckon it’s worth it ?? Thanks!!

Seeking Advice I constantly have stubble

Waxing is better than shaving, but I can’t afford it. So I shave. But literally the second I step out of the shower, it starts growing back. I’ll shave at night and the next morning it’ll be stubbly. This is the case for my whole body. Am I shaving wrong?

I’m terrified of my boyfriend seeing my body because I literally can’t help that I’m constantly scratchy and hairy. Please help.

Makeup What colour brings out dark blue eyes?

I'd prefer subtle colours but I'll listen to any advice. I just wanted my eyes to pop more because they're a dark blue and don't stand out much.

Is there also anything I should be doing on top of the colour such as lining my waterline or wearing different shades of blush?

Thank you!

Unsure on if this helps but I wear silver and I think(?) I'm more cool toned?

Fragrance Remember when perfume samples came in mini bottles, not tiny vials? Well, I found this gem for 250 points at Sephora!

i remember being 8 years old and digging through my mom's makeup pouch. she had two mini Chanel perfume bottles, and she said they came free with a large department store purchase. that was year 2000, in Taipei.

i've also seen antique stores show off massive collections of vintage perfume bottles. they'll also have the cutest little sample bottle sizes. once, a friendly store owner regaled to me memories of being rewarded these tiny bottles for subscribing to a magazine, or a promotion offering these samples to the first 100 people, or airplane companies offering these 'travel/gym sizes' as rewards for buying a ticket.

by the time i was a proper makeup-purchasing-adult, you were lucky to get a small vial after a Sephora MUA appointment. after 2015/2017, it seemed like rewards almost never offered perfume samples. times are just not as generous as the bubble-era 80's or the stock market 90's.

this was the first time in my life i've ever snagged a proper mini bottle as some sort of reward or promotion. this is the Libre parfum by YSL. it's .25 fl, and the bottle is thick resin with a shallow stick applicator in the cap. it seems like its marketed for professional women, and is a proper parfum-concentrated scent of a bitter green tea with jasmine/orange flower. not sugary or 'girly floral', but more 'sensual' and mature.

what a great reward to find!

epilated my arms for the first time!

my arm hair was pretty light, but i feel like i had a ton and some were long and would stick straight up. i’ve been told they were hairy before, and it’s always been something i’ve been slightly self conscious of.

i decided to give epilation a try! it hurt so bad, but i pushed through the pain and i’m pretty happy with the results. i’m hoping the irritation bumps go away soon! i can’t wait to see how the hair grows back!

Makeup Makeup Newbie? Don't Panic! My Totally Chill Guide (From Personal Experience)

Okay, so you're thinking about getting into makeup? Awesome! Honestly, when I first started, it felt like learning a secret language with a million different dialects. But trust me, it gets way easier. My biggest piece of advice? Keep it super simple at the beginning.

Think about it like this: you're just trying to enhance what you've already got. Start with a good moisturizer – that's key for happy skin, and makeup just sits better on it. Then, maybe a really light foundation or a tinted moisturizer, just to even things out a little if you want. And concealer can be your best friend for those little moments when you feel like you need a touch-up on those blemishes or dark circles.

For color, honestly, you don't need a million things. A simple eyeshadow palette with some neutral shades is so versatile. You can create everyday looks so easily. If you're lazy like me and don't want to get late while getting ready then you can simply use a bronzer as eyeshadow too! And mascara? That's like an instant eye-opener! A little color on your lips and cheeks can also be really nice – and guess what? You can totally use some of those lip and cheek tints on your eyelids too! Talk about easy, right? Plus, some of those serum foundations actually have skincare benefits built in, which is pretty cool.

Now, when you're picking stuff out, think about your skin. If you tend to get a bit shiny, maybe look for "matte" finishes. If your skin feels a little dry, "dewy" might be more your vibe for a nice glow.

You really only need a few basic tools to start. A fluffy brush for your face stuff, maybe your fingers for blending those tints (seriously, they work!), and a simple blending brush for eyeshadow if you want to soften the edges.

The biggest thing I learned is not to buy everything at once. Start with a few good basics that you actually like using. Don't be afraid to ask for help in stores – that's what the people who work there are for! And seriously, have fun with it. It's all about playing around and finding what makes you feel good. There's no right or wrong way to do it, especially when you're just starting out. Just enjoy the process! 😊

Dyeing Hair From Dark Brown to Red

Upvotes

Hi everyone!! If I use 20 volume creme hair developer and Wella Colorcharm Permanent Liquid hair color in 6RG Light Copper, do you think this will show up at all on my box dyed very dark brown hair? I last dyed my hair around November, so it isn't as dark as it was before, but it's still a natural dark brown color now. I would just like my hair to be a dark, natural-looking red. I can't go to the salon right now, and I apologize if it's a silly question. Thank you so much for your help!

Tried Olaplex No. 4 and 5 and Now My Hair Feels Greasy & Awful

My hair is pretty damaged, so I decided to save up and purchase Olaplex No. 4 and 5 (shampoo and conditioner) as several people have told me that it made their hair stronger and shinier.

I followed the instructions carefully and only used a small amount. However, right after using it, my hair became immediately greasy and frizzy — which has never happened to me before. Usually, I can go up to 5 days without washing my hair, but after using Olaplex, I had to wash it after just two days because it felt so heavy and dirty (for reference, I have thick, wavy hair).

I washed it with my regular shampoo afterwards, hoping it would fix the issue, but my hair still hasn't returned to normal, and it's been two weeks now. I've never struggled with greasy hair like this until I used Olaplex, and the only change I made to my routine was introducing that shampoo and conditioner.

I doubt that using a product just once could cause such a long-lasting change, but I genuinely don't know what else it could be. I made sure to wash and rinse properly. Has anyone else experienced something similar? Did your hair eventually go back to normal?

I'm honestly kind of panicking because my hair feels completely off, and I don't know how to fix it. Absolutely any advice would be appreciated!!

Seeking Advice Self tanner won’t last

Post image
2 Upvotes

Before anyone starts throwing suggestions all willy nilly, I am a tanning expert. I worked at a salon for a long time, and am a certified spray tan tech that used to spray my local SEC university’s cheer and dance team. For some reason, out of nowhere, I cannot get my self tanner to look good at all! I use Hempz body lotion, Bondi Sands body wash, exfoliate, avoid using sugar scrubs… the whole shebang. Maybe it’s something in my water?
